Good evening, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

It was a 1970s top which happened to resemble the ones worn on Star Trek, not a knock off lookalike from down the market

😂

lakeswimmer · 19/10/2020 15:05

Afternoon clunkers. Just checking in on the shiny new thread. Feeling a bit weary after disrupted sleep due to Ddog vomiting in our bedroom in the night...

Lily, sorry to hear about Dizzy Flowers

@DistantShores1

I feel I need to clarify my Star Trek top description.

It was a 1970s top which happened to resemble the ones worn on Star Trek, not a knock off lookalike from down the market.
He tried to Klingon to it but saw sense in the end 😬

😂😂😂😂
Nelllyyy · 19/10/2020 15:40

@TeflonTits

Teffy checking in. I'm sorry about Dizzy Lily :(.

No Jaffas today, its chocolate fingers, a magical replenishing box of them too.

Thank you Teffy, I love chocolate fingers. 🍫❤️

No chocolate fingers emoji, so will use a bar of chocolate instead. 😆

Crankley · 19/10/2020 15:53

Afternoon, hope you are all safe and well.

I'm very sorry to hear about Dizzy, Lily. I hope he's happy now but it must be really tough for you and Mr.L.

Thanks for the yummy breakfast Tracey - any chance we can get the butlers to add hot, buttered rum to their repertoire for chilly afternoons?

I read over the weekend about smashed, roasted new potatoes, tried them last night and am now addicted. Boiled until just soft, hit with a potato masher, just enough so it stays whole but broken up a bit, brushed with melted butter and oil and baked on an oiled tray on a highish temp.

I'm having a trying time with reception staff at my surgery. The nurse I see every week is great but the reception staff are incompetent, inefficient, unhelpful, all the 'ins' and 'uns' you can think of. My leg is supposed to be re-bandaged every week, it will be over three weeks by the time I see the nurse this Thursday; with any luck my leg will drop off and the problem will then be solved. They recently e-mailed me a 'Tell us what you think about us' questionnaire. I am have to force myself not to respond.

It appears the EU are sticking firmly to their insistence that the UK should adhere to the EU’s framework for limiting subsidies to businesses. It seems they won't be happy without maintaining some control over the UK, whether it be fishing rights or this issue. I hope and trust the response will be no. Apparently Barnier was planning to come to London this week and Boris has said there is no point since they are unwilling to move from their position. They obviously still don't get it.

I'm off to use up some Kentish cobnuts which I ordered from Waitrose recently and make a cobnut and apple cake.

Take care.

Grhh at doctors receptionist, I know they not are bad, but when they are bad they are bad.

Hope it all gets sorted soon and your leg not causing you to much pain.❤️

Cobnut and apple cakes sounds lovely and no doubt very tasty and moorish. 👍🏻

all

FelicityPike · 19/10/2020 17:00

I’ve had a stinking migraine all weekend...again.
BUT I have Ritz crackers and caramelised red onion chutney and it’s delicious!
That is all...thank you lol

yellowspanner · 19/10/2020 17:19

Good evening Clunkers.
I think doctors' receptionists are training to to unhelpful and rude.
M Barnier is coming over to intensify talks. Not sure what that means.
I hope it means he has been told to listen and take the UK seriously. I think Boris spooked them. Good for BoJo. It is exactly what was needed.

DistantShores1 · 19/10/2020 17:25

Felicity, sorry about your migraine. I don't think I've had one for years.
Ritz crackers, caramelised red onion chutney, add some extra mature cheddar and I'll join you.

We have had heavy missly rain here all day.
It makes me feel very snoozy.

AnneKipanki · 19/10/2020 17:33

I love the Star Trek top.

Nelllyyy · 19/10/2020 17:57

@AnneKipanki

I love the Star Trek top.
😲😁
thegcatsmother · 19/10/2020 17:58

Just watched Gove in the House. Seems like there was some movement in the Joint Committee today?

LilyLangtrey · 19/10/2020 18:06

I love the Star Trek top.

Made me laugh too!

Gah! I am late. Who's eaten all the carrot cake Are there any of Teffy's snacks left?

It has been a better day today, some catching up achieved but still behind a bit, and I haven't had a minute to catch up on the news so I am relying on you lot!

Will pop back later and see how you all are.

Good evening all - another busy day here so have fallen behind with everything.

With England being divided up into tiers I have been trying to get things sorted before we enter 2 or 3. I've got to decide whether to paint the ceiling of our outbuilding white or leave it until next spring, its unheated so will take a while to dry. Any tips on painting welcomed. At the moment I'm using it as an exercise space, all the stuff that is stored in it has been put on shelves so it seems quite spacious now.

I will summon the butlers and ask them to drop off mocktails in each reception room - it is only Monday after all.

BakedCam · 19/10/2020 18:47

I spoke too soon about Y A-B. She's currently on BBBC's Politics Live along with Florence Eshalomi

I don't whether to laugh, cry or have a glass of milk then go and rinse my knickers.

Pray, do tell, Tracy.

lakeswimmer · 19/10/2020 18:54

Thanks @Nelllyyy we think Ddog had too many Sunday dinner leftovers yesterday evening! She seems to be on the mend after a day of lying on the sofa in front of the fire and being fussed over Grin

LilyLangtrey · 19/10/2020 18:55

Any tips on painting welcomed.

My tip - I get someone else to do it, Green. Sorry, I know that's not helpful 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrL keeps trying to show me how to use the coffee machine even though I keep telling him there's no more room in my mental filing cabinets. He has, at various intervals over many years, patiently explained the rules of cricket he thinks I am interested. My eyes glaze over, I wait for him to finish his long explanation, then when he says, "Any questions?", I say, "Yes, what's an over?" Grin

Not heard any news today.

AnneKipanki · 19/10/2020 19:00

Mock ? Tails ?

AnneKipanki · 19/10/2020 19:01

Paint it off white. Shirting by Little and Greene is kinder to the eye .

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 19/10/2020 19:31

Oh, I’ll have a mocktail please Smile.

I had a busy day looking after two little hippos who needed dropping off at 2 hour camps and then we went to the playground. And I managed to clean to flat a bit (I was running behind after last week’s stress).

I don’t really understand what the EU is up to. It is so obviously in their interest to strike a deal and they are arguing about fish? And subsidies?

I understand the latter to some extent, but the U.K. isn’t that big on subsidies are they Confused?

ZombieFan · 19/10/2020 19:35

He tried to Klingon to it but saw sense in the end 😬

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

StormzyinaTCup · 19/10/2020 19:42

BigGreen I second getting someone else in (or leaving it au naturel) it will involve up and down a ladder (a lot) and arm ache (a lot)!

What is it Lily about Cricket, I'm can normally understand the rules of most sports (once they are explained to me) but I can't get Cricket for the life of me, much to MrS frustration. Oh and don't get me started on American football, that barely gets going before there's a mele on the floor and everything grinds to a halt, no idea what's going on there either but MrS finds it quite exciting Confused.
