Good evening, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

@TracysShoulder

I spoke too soon about Y A-B. She's currently on BBBC's Politics Live along with Florence Eshalomi.
Is YA-B, Yasmin?, she appears on Jeremy Vine channel 5, I love it when she gets on her high horse.

That’s as political as I get.

I now know that I am in a high alert area. 😤

Therebythedoor · 19/10/2020 12:43

Good morning Clunkers. Can I admit I'm not sure what a Clunker is...? 😆

Really sorry to hear your news about Dizzy @LilyLangtrey. That's a blow. I remember when a lost cat followed my sister home (she swore she never encouraged it - something I always doubted!). She stayed with us for about a week until her servant was located. My Dad relented on the 'no pets' policy because apparently I was prostrate with grief on the floor of the downstairs loo once she'd left. I had no recollection of this until many years later when we were reminiscing about beloved pets current and past. Maybe I didn't remember because very soon after we were the joyful servants of a cat of our own. We actually ended up with three and then a Boxer.

Been a strange morning for me. I'm 'recovering' after a phone consultation with my psychiatrist this morning. It was for a meds review (adhd) and it always makes me cry for some reason. Possibly because meds help but don't work for long enough each day. And in sorting out letters from my GP re my annual review, which I missed last year I realise why I hadn't heard from the ADHD clinic. Felt like another self-inflicted 'fail'. Trying to look on the bright side as at least I am back in the active care system. 😆

I have had a few days off to try to sort things here. Been v piecemeal progress but I have been on a roll - until I picked up my phone to look at a whatsapp funny sent this morning - and now I'm waffling on here.

Back to the multiple Sainsbury carriers for life which contain the paperwork and other stuff from my last attempt at sorting. Coming across stuff that was supposed to be jettisoned previously and stuff I am having trouble throwing away.

Once I'm done with this I'm never buying another orange carrier of any sort. I'm so sick of seeing them all around the place.

Therebythedoor · 19/10/2020 12:48

And finally... did you know that some people with adhd can unwittingly talk and type and bore at international competition level? 😆

Doobigetta · 19/10/2020 12:50

I always assume when they let Robert Jenrick deliver the government’s message it’s because they’re expecting it to be badly received. None of the big boys want to be associated with it, so they roll out the little toad.

DorisLessingsLesson · 19/10/2020 12:50

Afternoon, everyone! We had a power cut last night, we hardly slept and this morning just disappeared. I'll go back and catch up.

Well, you are obviously the exception to the rule, There! It's so easy to stow paperwork in a bag, thinking "I'll deal with that later". My DiL's mother passed away four years ago and she kept every single statement, invoice, bill, receipt, pension statement, you name it, in a very simple filing system...carrier bags. She had about 50 of them. DiL was too upset to think about tackling them so I sorted them out for her. I know what DiLM paid for cat food in Costco in 1988. Grin She was a lovely woman but admin was not her forte. Fortunately, I am a ruthless declutterer.

Doobigetta, "toad" Grin
I think he should have been sacked long since.

Doris, oh no! It means resetting everything as well. It really throws you back for the day.

Tracy, I don't suppose you've got your famous carrot cake in the pantry if I say please? A very large builders brew and a large slice would go down a treat late this afternoon.

I was quite enjoying your 'waffling' There. It was a good distraction from the news.

I'm another one who has to recover from phone consultations because I'm so worked up waiting for them that I'm like a yoyo being released afterwards.

We are on the last few sacks of our carrot surplus Lily Grin but I'm sure I saw one of the BC favourites sitting in the cake cabinet earlier. I'll investigate.

Clunkers was an auto correct of clubbers from an old thread There and we liked it, so it stuck.

Hello everyone.
Lily I’m sorry about Dizzy.

Today the hearing about Kids Company and splash the cash Camilla Batmanghelidjh and Alan Yentob begins, some 5 years after the appalling carryings on with tax payers money was revealed.
I think Alan Yentob is so arrogant and it will be interesting to see if he wriggles out of this one.

TracysShoulder · 19/10/2020 13:24

Here we are, calorie free carrot cake. Butlers wouldn't let me use the fine china so I've borrowed Cam's builders' cups. Hope it reaches the spot Lily.

Ohh that carrot cakes looks lovely, may I have a slice please with the red builders mug of tea, being the great uncouth that I am. 😁

DistantShores1 · 19/10/2020 13:53

My 8 year old great nephew, who has adhd was very worried about breaking our lockdown rules, by playing outside with his friends, 'in case he got arrested'.

DH has an impressive carrier bag filing system too.
Every so often, I'll go through them and shred all the unimportant letters.

What would MrL do without you Lily, keeping him from committing a fashion faux pas 😬.

The only time I've saw YAB was when she was on a programme and said if Leave won the referendum she would leave the country, as did Jamie Oliver.

What ever happened to keeping promises?

blossomsinmay · 19/10/2020 13:59

Afternoon all Smile

Fortunately, I am a ruthless declutterer
Please can I borrow you for a month couple of days, Lily?!

meercat23 · 19/10/2020 14:05

I once donated Mr M's horrible dog tooth check overcoat to the rag and bone man. That was over 50 years ago and he still brings it up!! Sometimes though you just have to do what you have to do.

😂😂😂

I’ll hold my hand up if it’s not nailed down I’ll throw it away, I deny all knowledge when MrN asks me if I have seen this or that, knowing full well I have binned it. 😁

That’s called ‘tidying up’ in my house😁. DH always goes very pale of complexion when he asks how my day has been and I say ‘I’ve been having a tidy up’😁. I’m also very good at saying “no that’s definitely not been ‘tidied’” and then covertly having to rummage through the black bin bag to retrieve said item!

StormzyinaTCup · 19/10/2020 14:22

Oops forgot my bold

DistantShores1 · 19/10/2020 14:25

I persuaded MrD to get rid of his Star Trek top, (not the real thing).
A cream territowelling top with a red band round the neck and a sideways V on the chest.

Not sure what rank he'd have held on the Starship USS Enterprise.

😁😁

Therebythedoor · 19/10/2020 14:46

@LilyLangtrey. You are too kind but I've spotted the glazed looks before now. 😆 Often I'm in 'transmit' mode rather than 'receive' and then there are days when I'm in neither. I do try to be more mindful.

On the plus side, a former manager used to include me in quite a few inter-departmental meetings because, he said, I could be relied on to pipe-up when others might not be so forth-coming with ideas and observations. Possibly code for idiot.

meercat23 · 19/10/2020 14:51

Left to himself my husband would live surrounded by clutter. I can't bear clutter. Over the years we have each defined territory for ourselves. He is not allowed to colonise the window sills and surfaces indoors and I don't comment on the amount of 'useful' stuff he has accumulated in the garage and sheds. Last time we moved it took him a year to sort out the garage and decide what was really useful and what was only 'might be' useful.

TeflonTits · 19/10/2020 14:56

Teffy checking in. I'm sorry about Dizzy Lily :(.

No Jaffas today, its chocolate fingers, a magical replenishing box of them too.

DistantShores1 · 19/10/2020 14:57

I feel I need to clarify my Star Trek top description.

It was a 1970s top which happened to resemble the ones worn on Star Trek, not a knock off lookalike from down the market.
He tried to Klingon to it but saw sense in the end 😬

meercat23 · 19/10/2020 15:02
