Good afternoon, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

You are most welcome Highhorse. I sometimes think it's a bit daft posting pics of food we can't eat, especially in these Covid times, but it's in the spirit of the BC when all kinds of pics were posted. We had a brilliant photoshopper member who provided us with hours of hilarity and artwork. Grin I do miss that poster.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 16/10/2020 11:03

Oh Tracy, I love the food pictures. It makes me dream of the lovely BC with it’s butlers, pizza and library.

I think we need all escapism we can get in Covid times.

MissSarahThane · 16/10/2020 11:11

Morning all. Just checking in. Hope everyone's having a good day so far. I've planned out what I hope to achieve today, just having elevenses, then I'm going to get stuck in.

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 11:25

Morning Clunkers,

Well Nelly did a wrong one this morning, I thought the Grandkids were coming this morning for their sausage, egg and cheese nana muffin, forgetting totally that today is Friday and not Saturday. 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Oh all these stories about Maine Coon kitties, has me longing to get another one, but they are so expensive and trying to find a good breeder is very hard, we got our Maine from a friend of my sons, he had bought his own flat, no animals allowed, he got his Maine, he was then reported for having a cat, hence my son volunteered that we would have him, he was an absolute joy to have, and boy did he eat. 😸

I love the story about the resident cats and the rescue, thank god there are such kind people to look after the cats. 😻😻😻

I haven’t read Lily’s history lesson yet, have written this first, I have tea so will read and drink.

Everyone have a lovely day, I will keep checking in on Teffy to make sure she is ok. ❤️

I’m off to read. 😁❤️👍🏻

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 11:29

Oh how could I forget @TracysShoulder for the breakfast and coffee 😁it looks very yummy, a big thank you.😋 ❤️

Therebythedoor · 16/10/2020 11:52

There was a lovely apple orchard in Twyford just over the road from the warehouse where we'd go to buy said apples by the large box' worth as we all hate apples like horses! That disappeared after we joined the common market.

TeflonTits · 16/10/2020 12:04

Morning ladies. Still not feeling right today, but I have at least put the main PC on. No huddling in the corner of my kitchen all day for me.

I'll have some of the egg wotsits this morning.

And Happy birthday to Baroness Nicholson. Incredible woman!

MissSarahThane · 16/10/2020 12:07

I was born and bred and have lived most of my life in the Garden of England. We've been known as a fruit growing county since at least as far back as the sixteenth century. One year around Wimbledon time I visited each of the three greengrocers we then had in the high street. Not one of them had any local strawberries. All from bloody Belgium. I didn't buy any.

MissSarahThane · 16/10/2020 12:08

Oh, and morning Teflon - at least, I see it's afternoon now.

TheReturnOfGavlar · 16/10/2020 12:38

Was that a long time ago Sarah. I've found that in recent years the shops champion local produce. The man who sells on my local market however seems to have a more air miles the better policy.

Therebythedoor · 16/10/2020 12:50

I had 2 scones for a very late breakfast. The Sainsburys version was nicer than the Waitrose's offering. No cream or jam - just butter and a cup of tea. I'm eating leftovers.

My attempt at decluttering continues (v slowly). I found some Lindor wrappers in the side pocket of a handbag this morning, and then a tenner (result!). I threw the wrappers in the kitchen bin and put the note in my emergency tin. Then I found a couple of pound coins and went to put them in the tin. Had to hurry back to kitchen to retrieve the tenner from the bin after I found the sweet wrappers stashed safely in the tin. Story of my life - it's in my hands one moment and then... who knows where?

I had an appointment with Occupational Health when I was off long term sick a few years ago. During the meeting I drove into my rather large and untidy handbag to get a notebook or something (probably a tissue - as I was usually very teary) and found the bra I'd lost while I was getting dressed.

Therebythedoor · 16/10/2020 12:52
  • Dove into my handbag, NOT drove.
MissSarahThane · 16/10/2020 12:55

Yes, it was a while ago Gavlar. It's a good while since we've had three greengrocers here! We now have one, a farm shop which sells local produce.

I noticed this summer that M&S soft fruit, while it didn't necessarily come from this county, was at least from the region, and had the producer's name on.

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 12:59

Afternoon Moogle, glad you have pooped in here. 😁

Yes that is good, no huddling in the in the kitchen, sit on the comfy sofa, with a soft blanket, so all cosy and warm.❤️

Hope you have made and eaten your eggs. 🥚🥚🥚

Eggs Wotsits?, are they the cheesy Wotsits but in the shape of an egg. 😁

I have emotionally distanced myself, it feels really great. 😁

I second that Happy Birthday to Baroness Nicholson.

And a big thank to our own special lady, @LilyLangtrey. ❤️👍🏻😁

BakedCam · 16/10/2020 13:01

Cam, what are you having done? I remember you said you'd had a new floor down

Afternoon all,

Tracy, I'm moving next weekend, new conservatory floor, new utility, new ensuite. All interior doors are having a freshen up. (15 of those) old bungalows always have lots of corridors and doors. Eugh.

House swap with my DD. I can't wait.

Lovely stories of Haworth, Clunkers, apart from Autumn and being clamped.

Tier 3, Lancashire. It was going to happen.

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 13:03

@BakedCam, hope your builders are behaving themselves and your mixing bowl is safe and tucked away. 😁

I hope your desk survived being used by the builders and they never left any tea rings?. ❤️

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 13:04

stains forgot to add. 😁

BakedCam · 16/10/2020 13:37

All well with them, Nelllyyy. They're beavering away. I'll be glad for the weekend though. I have to leave for airport at 4am in the morning to drive my dad.

So, I'll be having a glass of wine in an hour. Then thats it. Bed at 7pm.

Crikey, I miss you Clunkers.

BakedCam · 16/10/2020 13:39

Maine Coon cats. My brother has one. I love them.

BakedCam · 16/10/2020 13:39

Has anybody been to the Isle of Man cat sanctuary? I spent a wonderful day there in 2006. Amazing place.

DistantShores1 · 16/10/2020 13:59

Not been to the IOM one Cam but we did try to visit the Cat cafe in SAN Diego. We hadn't booked and there was a queue, so we didn't wait.
A safe journey home for your wee dad Cam. Hopefully it won't be long before he can welcome his girl back with well used phrase.

Having an early dinner out before battening down the hatches here in preparation of our 2 week lockdown, sorry, the folks on the hill would be annoyed at my phraseology. Ahem, I mean our circuit breaker.

Phew, that was lucky Therebythedoor. Somehow I don't think Lindor wrappers are legal tender 😬

Nice to hear from you Gavlar and Moogle.
Keep moogling along.

AnneKipanki · 16/10/2020 14:24

I can never write very much . I think my area is already Tier 3 equivalent .
It does not matter as I do not really go to these places anyway.

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 14:41

Crikey, I miss you Clunkers.

That’s good they are behaving.

Oh shame about your dad going home, you no doubt will miss him very much, he sounds very much like my 90 year old uncle, always wears a shirt and tie, very smart. ❤️

Oh 4am. 🥴

I bet you won’t sleep much I always have a restless sleep the night before if doing something different to my normal routine.

The Clunkers❤️

Enjoy you wine. ❤️

Hope Mr Bake is behaving himself as well and coming along nicely.

You have been through the mill over the last month, take care of yourself Bake. ❤️

Nelllyyy · 16/10/2020 14:51

BakedCam, your brother had a Maine Coon?, 😍

My son went to Japan for work for a month, made it a sort of holiday as well, he partner went as well, they found Cat Cafe, they were in their element.❤️

DistantShores1 · 16/10/2020 15:02

I didn't realise how popular Cat Cafes were Nelllyyy.

Did your son and his partner enjoy their time in Japan?

It's on our bucket list to visit.
Maybe one day 🤞
