Good afternoon, Clunkers!

Welcome to the Breakfast Club where the kettle is permanently on, the drinks flow and the snacks are both self-replenishing and calorie-free.

We start each day with a look at history and a tribute to a brave or inspiring woman. Mostly though, we just chat randomly about current affairs, recipes, life in lockdown, literature, music and anything else that comes into our heads.

Veteran Clunkers welcome. Anyone else who wants to join in the chat - sense of humour essential! - welcome.

I think my GP must be visiting today Lily and I got it wrong, very possible given how I felt on Friday. No bravery here, I actually set my alarm clock every two hours in the night because I was worried about deteriorating.

You are doing a stellar job Lily, thank you 🙏.

MissSarahThane · 13/10/2020 09:22

I hated school milk; it came either warm and disgusting or lumpy and frozen.

Me too. So many play times wasted trying to get the vile stuff down. In fact I've never liked milk as a drink on its own. My mum tells me I refused to drink it from when I was a toddler.

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 09:22

You have a very caring GP Nessa, thank goodness.

Thank you Lily. I had to smile at your Lillie Langtry reference. Is the 2nd pic Ada Lovelace? Another reason to have cake today, your screen name's birthday Grin

MT was hated around these parts. IMO the hate was focused in the wrong direction. You wouldn't dare show support for her. It was most upsetting to see the reaction on her death in some of the pit villages. Her name is still spoken with venom. Sad

Did anyone see Who Do You Think You Are with Jodie Whittaker last night? Apparently, her G Grandfather's family owned a pit not too far from me. They kept the pit going through the strikes in the 20s and have never been forgiven. It's well worth a watch, but I thought of you Soapy, as JW slipped straight back into her Yawkshire accent, (which is very close to ours) when she met with her family. It's worth a watch.

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 09:32

I've given up trying to work out who people are. I have sorted a few but I shall think of the others as "new friends".

Me too Yellow. This happened before when we had a hurried moonlight flit and had to change names. It's helpful when Clunkers give a subtle clue in their posts, but I think I'm going to adopt your method Grin
Enjoy the novelty of your meeting today but be careful won't you?

Nessa, that made me well up. Sad

NessalovesSmithy · 13/10/2020 09:39

Sorry Tracys Flowers, I was concerned that the pain seemed worse and I went downhill so quickly before. Its just me and GSprog here.

FelicityPike · 13/10/2020 09:41

I was a drif-in-and-outer on the other place. I never joined the Clunkers though.
I was Homefries or Homefree (I forget which).

I saw half of this. Yes, her Yorkshire accent did come out very strong. Love her.

I need to watch from the beginning.

Maggie was always a divisive character, I put that largely down to her being a woman. We benefitted from the RTB. We would not be in the position we are now without that.

With regards to her title of milk snatcher, she rightly stated that it was Labour who first removed milk from older children at schools. That was a Labour policy. She removed from primary schools.

Lots more I want to say, but my battery is running low. Grrrr.

thegcatsmother · 13/10/2020 09:54

Mrs T was and is, the reason I vote Tory. I remember when growing up, seeing Red Robbo on his soapbox at BL, and couldn't understand how the politicians kow towed to the unions. She was like a breath of fresh air. I had immense admiration for her.

I note her legislation to break the power of the unions was never repealed by the Labour party when they were in power. What does that tell you?

Hope you feel better soon Messy.

Baked Cam, I thought of you last night. I found a tin dh bought for me at a Christmas bazaar, filled with the grass and fresh air of the Tyrol. I gave it a sniff and thought of you!!

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 10:07

gcat, I imagine your house is a right treasure trove. Lol at the tin.

Nessa, I know you won't mess about if you need looking at. I hope GSprog is ok. She must be worried about you.

BakedCam · 13/10/2020 10:11

How lovely, GC, I'm not too homesick now. Managed to shift that feeling. My dad brought some goodies from home. All sealed of course. But I have Sacher Torte.

I won't be going back this side of Christmas for sure. My dad goes back this Saturday. It was good to see him.

BakedCam · 13/10/2020 10:12

Felicity

You're here now. That's the important part.

SulisMinerva · 13/10/2020 10:34

Morning,

Great OTD. MT is an interesting figure - I was very young during her time as PM and had no idea about her helping a young Jewish girl escape. She was a principled politician and at least you were clear where she stood on issues.

You have Sacher Torte. I am now officially drooling. I love Sacher Torte.
TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 11:17

You did say it was to share round didn't you Baked?

Penguinfriendly · 13/10/2020 11:29

Don't mind me, just popping in for a croissant or two...

NessalovesSmithy · 13/10/2020 11:29

Yum!

I've just had breakfast - a smoked salmon and cream cheese omelette, both needed using up. It was nice!

I'm getting my hair cut tonight, first time out, I haven't cancelled as its a new hairdresser and its a ten minute walk away. I'm not usually in there for long - 50 mins, lets hope I manage it.

Nelllyyy · 13/10/2020 11:40

Morning Clunkers,

I don’t know what the weather is trying to do, rain not rain, cloudy and grey at the moment.

The last of the holiday washing is in, the ironing pile not so big now.

Thank you Lily for my history lesson.

My dad always said Lily Langtry was a goer. 😉

He also hated Maggie, he was as was his dad Labour through and through.

I remember my parents going round peoples homes doing collections for the miners, money, food, warm clothes and anything else that was donated.

I also remember my parents and many other parents laying down on a very busy road fighting to get a Zebra Crossing installed, they did this in the middle of winter, the crossing was finally installed, they also protested about closing a two way road into a one way, same methods used, I live in this road.

He also did this when the Ambulance section went on strike.

I also hated school milk.

Tea and nothing else this morning, though the bananas look quite nice in the fruit bowl.

The breakfast does look nice, so thank you.

BakedCam, glad Mr Cam is doing well, does it feel strange swapping homes?, almost holiday like.

I also love Sacher Torte, very rich, so can’t have too bigger slice.

Bus driver Nelllyyy says masks on his bus most not worn until he puts the speaker on to say mask wearing must be worn, then out they come and are put on.

Lorraine Chase got on his bus yesterday, he said she was lovely and she wore a mask.

Daughter popped in this morning, she also forgot our wedding anniversary as did son. 😁😂😂

I’ve decided I will have a summer wrap for lunch.

Other than that I have nothing else to do.

It is now raining again. 🌧💦

NessalovesSmithy · 13/10/2020 11:48

I've got to collect a click and collect parcel today, winter tights as I threw them all away. Not quite sachertorte territory but I might buy myself a Colin the Caterpillar cake and some more grapes Grin.

TeflonTits · 13/10/2020 12:03

I've moogle'd on in, and saw cake. Im swiping that right meow!

Morning ladies from over here. hugs for everyone!

You too Teffy, keep on moogling. 😁

I miss your jokes and character. 😁

I sent Div a message to ask to join her club yesterday, not heard back yet, hope things are ok for her and Divtot.

Colin is a regular in our household. 😁

He had been for many years, we just buy him and not just for birthdays.😁

The grandkids love him too. 😁🐛🍰

Nelllyyy · 13/10/2020 12:23

Nessa and Tracy....G and P ?

Must get used to the new names, some I recognise, many others I don’t.

TracysShoulder · 13/10/2020 12:33

Yes, correct on those 2 Nelly.
I'm struggling so I'm adopting Yellow's strategy, all new friends if I don't know who they are Wink

Send the Sacher Torte to me; I could have cakegasms. You lucky thing! I could do with a big cinnamon bun and a mug of Weiner melange right now, and a mahoosive bar of Lindt fruit and nut.
