Wimpy 'mummy I'm cold can I have a jumper, mummy my knee hurts will you kiss it?' types I can live with, esp if receptive to distraction / jollying along.

Histrionic dramatic 'I am freezing I will die, it hurts it is broken [loud sobbing]' types I find... more of a challenge, shall we say.

nomdeplume · 27/07/2007 15:27

The variety of wimp I find most annoying is the one who is afraid of EVERYTHING.

[irrational grrrrrrr]

LoveAngel · 27/07/2007 16:04

Yep.

Little Johnny is pushed out if the way by boisterous little Sammy in the playground - little Johnny starts screaming like someone just stabbed him in the eye with a machete - little Johnny's mum runs over as if protecting him from a pack of hungry wolves ... they cling to each other like two victims in a Horror film.

Fucking annoying.

Spidermama · 27/07/2007 16:06

Do you think children are born wimpy or made wimpy by their parents?

rofl - I read that as 'if my parents are crying I leave 'em...'

sparklesandwine · 27/07/2007 18:07

there's me posting how much wimpy kids annoy me and DD was a perfect example at the park today serves me right - karma and all that!!

FrannyandZooey · 27/07/2007 18:13

I think showing your children that you care if someone is upset, or hurt, or wanting sympathy, is a good thing to do. I think it helps them develop empathy for other people. I don't think it is easy for them to grow up to be kind and caring adults, if their problems are always met with "oh come on you are alright".

PersonalClown · 27/07/2007 18:14

And this is why I love my DS. All I get from him is 'Hurt!' in a small pitiful voice. You then kiss it/rub it better and he's off like nothing ever happened.
My friends Ds is a whole different kettle of fish. If he so much as bumps himself lightly it's floods of tears and demands to be cuddled. His little sister on the other hand has no fear!

Yes, I know exactly what you mean and it IS annoying

but showing children that we have got time and patience to deal with things that make them sad is the right thing to do, IMO, even if it is annoying

this thread seems to have turned into a bragging competition "oh well MY dd's LEG fell off and I just said 'shaddup' "

I think this thread is rather mean. I can't imagine thinking "Oh, get over it fgs" in response to a hurt child, never mind saying it.

Mud · 27/07/2007 18:24

no tyhats teachign them they're the cetnre of the universe and that is why we have brats who grow up to be worthless brats

Desiderata · 27/07/2007 18:25

Me too

It was my sole motivation, tbh!

FrannyandZooey · 27/07/2007 18:26

My child is not a worthless brat nor will ever be Mud

I couldn't possibly speak for yours of course

Mud · 27/07/2007 18:26

get over it is ofetn eht right response to a child who is professiong to be hurt which is different from actually beign hurt - you see it a lot with first time parent sand those with one child - cenrte of the universe brats
