wow thats great dancerdeb, just waht you been waiting for , 2 jobs with no castings, well done to your ds! x

goingfor3 · 10/08/2007 09:06

Well done dancerb, your son certainly seems busy this holiday. We've not been very well and had to turn down two jobs and three castings 2 of which are today but I'd invited the girls best friends over and this is the first time they have had friends over for the holiday. DD did go to one casting this week but her eyes were very red and she looked reall tired so I'm not sure if we will here back for that job next week and she had checked availbilty for 2 magazine jobs next week, so we may be very busy or may hace nothing at all!

dancerdeb · 10/08/2007 15:16

Thank you all for your good wishes, yeah a great day, you were right julie4 all very lovely with ds, apparently its for the posters for the childrens winterwear, a very retro shoot on a tricycle and on an old rusty chair, unlaced boots, jeans and dufflecoat (hope ive described it well)!! will be in there soon taking pics of the posters!!! my son was sporting a big head of hair today, biggggggggggggggggg!
goingfor3 hope you will be very busy next week x

Hi
just lurking and wanted to ask a coupleof questions
How do you know if your child will be any good at modelling/what people are looking for?
Do any of you know any recommended agencies in the NW?
How much does a typical agency charge to put your child on their books?

thanks in advance

lanismum · 11/08/2007 10:59

Hi nemo, sorry, i'm in london, so only know of london agencies....

agencies dont only take on the impossibly cute kids, they also look for something that makes them a bit different, and the most important thing is that the child is happy and relaxed in front of the camera, is happy to be held/spoken to by strangers, wont mind getting having their clothes changed a lot, is confident, ect, if you are interested in your child becoming a model, its best to get a few clear snaps (dont pay for professional photos) and send them off to a few agencies, and wait and see if any take an interest, I wouldnt go with the first one that takes him/her on, much better to wait till you have had replies from all the agencies you have applied to.
Agency fees vary a lot, there are 4 in london that have very low charges, my dd1 and dd2 are with Urban Angels, and they charge £40 for a years contract, that includes photos every 6 months for the baby and every year for the older one, but there are some agencies whos fees run into hundreds and hundreds of pounds, personally I would avoid these, because you can never be sure if your child will get work, whichever agency they are with
good luck

Sorry to butt in, does anyone know of any agencies in Scotland? My friend was approached in a Glasgow Hotel by a women who said she used to run a child modelling agency and that her DD (2yrs old) should be with an agency as good potential.

Thanks

dellgirl13 · 12/08/2007 19:44

hi just joined as i was searching for some information on model agencies. 2 of my children have been accepted by allsorts and bizzy kids. i would like to know if anyone is on their books or has any info. thanks

dellgirl13 · 12/08/2007 20:48

hi bizzykids.com have an agency in scotland. my kids have been accepted by the london one. take a look at website. very easy to apply.

julie4travel · 13/08/2007 08:31

nemo2007- obvioulsy its great if your children are really lovely looking for modelling. yet a good personality pays an important part in castings. you never know what casting people are after

if i remmeber rightly northern agencies are absolute in liverpool (who sponsered last years british isles pageant competition)
boss in manchester, bk take on all over england, i think ck do aswell.ak do aswell and dk in sheffield.
i think some of the northern mums do use the london agencies though and commute down to agencies such as bruce and brown, kids london, urban angels, mot etc

good luck in your decisions

mummyeme · 13/08/2007 09:18

Hi dellgirl,
Form personal experience to date (which isn't long) try some other agencies. Don't have experience of allsorts though. But definitely go for all agencies you can and see which you like best. There are the main four KL,BB,UA,MOT (which have no or low fees) then NCA (I've had good experience of them, they get a lot of castings and jobs), Scallywags, Rascals, Alphabet Kids and more, all of the ones I've listed have happy model mummys, from postings I've read on here.
Good luck, let us know what happens. Yey it's all excitingx

forgot to say reputable agencies are listed on this website also with some of the bogus agencies to steer clear off

www.albamodel.info/

michaelad · 13/08/2007 14:34

Hiya, my ds2 has just been accepted by Bizzykidz too (contract with Scallywags runs out in a couple of weeks). Should I be wary of them? I know other MN's have mentioned this one before too..

michaelad · 13/08/2007 14:35

Or should I just renew my contract with Scallywags since they both seem to have the same number of kids on their books and Scallywags might be marginally better?..am confused

totallyfloaty35 · 13/08/2007 16:36

try a few other agencies as scallywags and bk have high fees, although bks fee is a one off there are others with little or no costs.

michaelad · 13/08/2007 16:38

have contacted a couple more and waiting for anwers now. so far had a "no" from B&B.

If no other agency's interested, should I stay with Scallywags or switch to BK?

cledjach · 13/08/2007 18:03

Hi, I haven't posted on here before but my son does modelling with an agency and I'm currently in the process of registering my new baby with an agency too. I have had initial acceptances from Alphabet Kidz, Bruce & Brown and Elisabeth Smith already (I only sent his details yesterday). Out of these 3 agencies which one do you think would be best to register with? I know ES has the highest costs so not sure about that one. I already have experience of 2 other agencies but not these ones.

ellesmum · 13/08/2007 20:04

cledjach - i would most defenatley go for bruce and brown, they are one of the top 4 london agencies and have very little start up fees. i know quiet a few people whos los are with them and have had alot of work. my dd is with kids london, have been for the last year and at every casting and most jobs there have been other children from b&b. i havent seen any kids from elizabeth smith or alperbet kidz at castings as yet and i know es have very high joining fees, plus brouce and brown have a very low amount of children on their books which makes the chances of your lo getting work much higher.

good luck with your decision

julie4travel · 13/08/2007 20:06

cledjach - bruce and brown are great with no initail outlay. they have been good for us.

michaelad- we only had one job with scallywags in a year and switched as there fees are so hi now. bk fees are a one off feee till 16 rather than a yearly one like scallywags
wait and see what you get from the agents acceptance and go with what you feel is best

michaelad · 13/08/2007 20:07

Any good advice for me? Should I stay with Scallywags, switch to Bizzykidz or wait until feedback from other agencies is back? If feedback from other agencies is negative what do I do?

julie4travel · 13/08/2007 20:08

cledach
forgot to say once i have seen alphabet kids names on casting sheets. i have seen elisabeth smith kids on jobs yet there fees are high aswell.

michaelad · 13/08/2007 20:08

Julie, are bizzykidz a decent agency? A bit worried that my ds was accepted without them having seen him in person.

mummyeme · 13/08/2007 20:15

michaelad,
From personal experience, stick with scallywags, or apply to some other agencies but I really wouldn't recommend making a switch like that. Have you tried NCA? we had a lot of castings alongside BB and KL kids, they've been little mentioned on here but were good for us and I wish I'd gone back to them.

OP posts:
michaelad · 13/08/2007 20:17

mummyeme, why would you not recommend a switch like that? Is it Bizzykidz in particular? Haven't tried NC yet..

mummyeme · 13/08/2007 20:18

Who else have you applied to. BB are closed to new applications (apart from babies) until Sept so you could always wait til they reopen and reapply, that could well be the reason you got a no.
Good luckx

michaelad · 13/08/2007 20:19

NCA short for? Can't seem to google them..
