hi dancerdeb, how did you get on? you;ve really picked up now, u must be pleased.
mummyeme you still with bk, had anything yet? we've not, just sent an updated pic, which is nicer than the ones from the studio!!

dancerdeb · 27/09/2007 09:27

Hi rubystar77, yes things have picked up for my ds, I certainly cant complain.
His audition wasnt the best, he had a sore throat and felt unwell, so obviously he wasnt full of energy and thats what they were looking for energetic young boys. So will get him better and onto the next!! There were some BK kids there, boys 6-7yrs old.

Alliebongo · 27/09/2007 09:29

blimey, i didn't realise there was a moggelling thread still

ds has retired i think. he much prefers rugby

mummyeme · 27/09/2007 18:11

Hi dancerdeb,
Thanks very much for you message, wow. Please could you cat me your email so that I can get back to you.
Hope ds is better soon, I've had a horrible cold bug thing so I know how he must feel. Dd has avoided it so far fingers crossed.
Rubystar, heard nothing from bk either but updating the photos will bring good things for dd I'm sure, she's gorgeous. As for dd have given up on bk and it's the right thing for us, had 2 calls in less than a month from changing agentsx
Good luckx

Hi, this is my first post. My son has registered with Kids London but I am worried about him missing time off school. I understand that most castings take place out of school hours - do they mainly occur at weekends or evenings and how long does a casting session usually go on for? Do 'jobs' always take place during school time - the KL leaflet says that 90% do but surely many occur during the school holidays? How understanding are the agency if you do not want to keep taking your child out of school? Sorry to ask so many questions but we are new to modelling and I am hoping that someone who has been with KL for a while will be able to answer my queries. Thank you!

julie4travel · 28/09/2007 08:29

lyndall- i am afraid thats how it works
i have never had a weekend casting and only ever had 3 castings in school holidays. the rest have all been in school time
the casting calls are normally last minute the day before. u can try speaking to the school regarding time out. ours allows the odd earlier pickup for a casting as long as we keep them informed.

dreadlocks · 28/09/2007 09:08

Same here, never had a weekend casting, had a few after school but ds has usually had to miss last lesson to get him there on time.
It is inevitable yoiur child will miss school so as Julie said you need to speak to them before a casting comes up.
all the best
H

lyndall · 28/09/2007 12:35

Dreadlocks and Julie, thank you so much for your replies. Oh dear, I am in a quandry now as I'm sure the school will not be very sympathetic and won't allow too much time off school; I'm wondering now whether to give up on the whole idea. On average how often have you needed to take your children out of school and do they miss many whole days or do they just need to leave early? Are they with KL? Sorry about all the questions but I feel I need to get a good idea of what it will involve. Thanks!

julie4travel · 28/09/2007 14:40

lyndall - we arent overally busy job wise average probably 3 a year and castings say about for us only about 3 or so a year as some of the jobs are picked without castings. we are with bb so similar jobs to kl. obviously there are people who have lots more castings/jobs which could be weekly, just depends on the look of your child etc. if ours was really regular our school would say no yet as its only a few times a year they are ok with it. if his schoolwork dropped or suffered i dont think they would be as helpful etc and i would understand that and prob stop ds doing modelling. on another note we didnt get a casting since being with the agency until after 8 weeks of joining.

marymay · 28/09/2007 14:45

hi lyndall...it really varies sometimes a couple of times a month for the odd hour .sometimes they dont have a casting for a few months.there really is no way of saying.my ds and dd school think its great and are very helpful.
how old is your dd or ds ?

dreadlocks · 28/09/2007 15:08

Yes same here ,ds only missed 4 whole days off school but did miss maybe 5 half days.
we just had a very busy March -May and in the end ,as much as I hated too, I turned down several castings as it was getting a little too much.
School have just signed his license letter again , i thought there may be a problem as they are not authorising absences for holidays any more but they did it. if your ds in in say a sats year school may want some assurance you will not pull them out over the practice time and exams but I think most are fairly supportive.
i always use the job/life skills argument (Ds is 12), he can go into a room in front of a panel of people and a camera and sell himself which is only going to be a bonus when it comes to job interviews.

lyndall · 29/09/2007 23:02

Thank you Julie, Mary and Dreadlocks for your helpful replies. It sounds as though we will not know how much he will be affected and how much school time he will need off until we try it! Are agencies generally understanding if, for any reason, you can't make it when they call or do they expect you to be available unless you have a very, very good reason? Mary, my DS is 10. Is that a sought after age? Dreadlocks, your son is of a similar age and sounds quite busy but I appreciate it depends on each child.
Thank you once again for your help!

marymay · 29/09/2007 23:31

hi lyndall..my ds is 9 and has been modelling for a year and a half and dd is 11 and been modelling for two years. ds has had more work then dd.they both have very different looks .but speaking to other parents with both girls and boys .all say the boys get the most work .maybe its that more girls model ? who knows.kl are a very good agency and both of mine have worked with children from the agency.good luck to your ds

marymay · 29/09/2007 23:34

forgot to say that our agency have always been good when we have turned castings down.

Tiasmummy · 30/09/2007 13:23

Hi. My daughter has been accepted with bubblegum. Just wondered if anybody had any experience with them?

Thanks.

TipTappity · 30/09/2007 16:25

Tiasmummy I have 2 girls aged 7 and 4 with Bubblegum and am happy with the agency. We have had some great castings - Last week my 4 year old had a Disney casting and this week my oldest had a Next Directory casting. My youngest can be seen in the Cinderella Aquadraw advert that is currently on screens (she is the little blonde girl). I think they're a super agency but I gather they have had some mixed reviews on here. Good luck with your decision!

Tiasmummy · 30/09/2007 16:46

Thanks tiptappity :-) I am happy they are working out for you. Its difficult to know which ones are reputable as there are so many out there.

Thanks again :-)

dreadlocks · 30/09/2007 16:59

Yes Ds agency fine if you turn down a casting, i guess if you turn down too many it could become a problem. Ds not had anything since early August, so for us this year it has been either very busy or deadly quiet.
Could do with the phone ringing next week....fingers crossed.

lyndall · 01/10/2007 21:50

Marymay and Dreadlocks, thank you both once again for your help. Here's hoping your phone will start ringing soon Dreadlocks - I'm sure it will!
