francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 10:30

PIPPI dove sei finita?

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 11:08

I'm in Vietnam now, but I'm Perugina at heart. I lived there for quite a long time. I lived in Trieste as well, but la bora chased me away!!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 13:36

. Wow, Vietnam. I want to know everything (nosy emoticon), where do you live? What do you do? A friend of mine went travelling to Vietnam a few years ago and loved it.

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 15:13

I have already faced quite a few challenges, so nothing really gets in my way anymore. Ho fondato l'ONG un anno fa a poi mi sono trasferita dall'Italia a Bangkok e poi a Hue. Sto creando un sito web, ma non e ancora finito. When it's done, I ll give you the site address. E se vuoi fare qualche domanda su di me, non ci sono problemi..... My eyes don't work, but that doesn't stop me from doing things.

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 15:35

wow globe, you are amazing !
so, how long did you live in Perugia for?

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 15:53

I lived in Perugia "on and off" for 10 years, a small miracle as I've lived in 8 countries and move around quite a bit. I really loved it there though. It's my "base." I really miss the food too, esp the cheese..... and Eurochocolate..... e bomboloni alla crema. Where was your friend in Vietnam? Where they here during the extremely hot season?!I thought Italy was boiling in July. That is, until I lived here!!

Ellbell · 15/07/2007 15:58

Ciao globetrotter! I am an Italophile Brit, teaching Italian in the UK. We send students on exchanges to Perugia and they all come back raving about the chocolate. I am thinking we should set up a degree in Italian and Chocolate Studies (would need careful monitoring, of course... lots of visits to make sure the quality was up to scratch ). I also love Trieste. I teach a course on Triestine literature.

Good luck with your work in Vietnam.

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 16:07

Gosh it must be extremely hot and humid in Vietnam... but I've heard the food is amazing. My friend travelled from north to south (if I remember well) in 5 weeks, I think it was in August.
Ellbell, there is now a Universita' del Gusto in Piemonte, it was set up by the Slow Food movement... you might stablish some connections... ah, chocolate!

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 16:08

want to establish

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 16:08

L'Ultima Sigaretta........... I should show that to the vietnamese too! Smoking is VERY popular here.

Italian and Chocolate Studies? Mouthwateringly good idea! Does it include some excursions to Calabria for the chocolate al peperoncino? Oh, and not to forget the ice cream!...

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 16:12

yummie. my sister in law made a dark chocolate cake con peperoncino once... I still remember it...Another good place for cioccolato (and coffee) is Torino.

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 16:16

Franca, YES! THE FOOD IS SUPER! There are so many specialties and new things to sample. Both in Thailand and in Vietnam. It's amazing. Although I have to say I was a bit surprised the first time they gave me coffee in a plastic bag with a straw....

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 16:27

sorry it took so long to respond there, the speech on the computer got distracted by all the chocolate and lost concentration

Found the "Add" button on the top of the screen now so I don't have to scroll down all 400 plus messages now....

francagoestohollywood · 15/07/2007 16:34

I had never noticed the add button before! I'm a bit of a technophobe and I never feel at ease with computers, I have to say. A plastic bag for the coffee???
I'd love to visit Vietnam, it's on my list of place to go when the children are older. So what does your ONG do? Is it a schooling programme?

globetrotterinvietnam · 15/07/2007 16:46

I am currently training teachers to work with blind children. They are being taught how to teach daily living skills (cooking, cleaning, etc) mobility (how to go to the market, walk with a cane, go to a bank) and educational skills. In two weeks, some Thai and American teachers are coming and they will also train the teachers. There are about 120 blind children in Hue, but there is not much being done with them. Before I came here, no one had heard of a blind person cooking or taking the bus alone or anything. So I also have to educate the people in the community. I am also making the braille books (by hand, in vietnamese) since the children don't have enough. I will also be getting equipment for the children (among other things, software to print books!) So my fingers can take a rest!

I have also been helping the orphans and children with other disabilities in my spare time.

mediterRONeo · 15/07/2007 18:47

Ciao a tutte. Lots of Vietnamese restaurants here in the eastend - wonderful food and very friendly people!
Spent my afternoon reading the travel pages of the weekend papers, dreaming about travels.

mediterRONeo · 15/07/2007 18:49

Can anyone tell me how to translate lunch box in Italian?
