I saw a woman in the Science Museum today, who really could only be described as having "let herself go"

Grey streaky "hanging" hair, huge arse and fat tum in grey tracky bottoms, footglove shoes, shapeless burgundy tunic top and hanging tits. She really looked like she had given up on life. In contrast, she had three dear little, divinely trendily dressed girls with her. She had obviously put a lot of thought and effort into what they were going to wear (down to the very funky hat one of them was wearing) but hadn't even spent five minutes on herself.

Why?

One of my shiny English pounds says she is depressed.....

Wotzsaname · 16/04/2007 22:22

Pruni. footglove shoes are sensible ones form M&S which are very comfortable (slightly stylish) if you have a job you have to stand up for all day. Thats for sure.

MrsSchadenfreud I see where you are going with this, but maybe the children dressed themselves and have more style!

chocolateface · 16/04/2007 22:22

I bet the woman is reading this right now......

Rhubarb · 16/04/2007 22:22

I don't understand this post.

Why should she make a "tiny effort" to look good? So no-one would judge her? She has looked after her children, no doubt she is clean, and luckily for her she clearly doesn't give a stuff about what other people think of her appearance. Good for her! I hate it when people have a go at others for their appearance - what a superficial society we are.

And how awful that someone should take it on themselves to share that with an internet community. I can only hope that she doesn't come on Mumsnet herself, it wouldn't take Holmes himself to work out who was being talked about.

As my gran said, if you can't say anything nice ........

I'm not talking about hair-clothes-make up-type women. (G-d knows I'm not one of them.) It was the contrast between her and the beautifully turned out children. You don't have to be clothes-hair-make up-type to look tidy.

When I was on dialysis I often went to the school in my pjs and I didn't give a shit as I was so ill it was everything I could do to get out the door. You should not be so quick to judge one of the mothers at the school said she had seen me drunk in the morning without any clue what I was going through

PeachesMcLean · 16/04/2007 22:24

VVVQ - nail on head i think.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/04/2007 22:24

footglove shoes

chocolateface · 16/04/2007 22:24

Let me guess she was wearing the vented loafers.

harpsichordcarrier · 16/04/2007 22:25

any way pruni you always look funky and trendy and fab
so shaddap

chocolateface · 16/04/2007 22:25

And how do you all know abot fottglove shoes?

Frascati · 16/04/2007 22:25

I am someone who doesn't set my foot out the door unless my hair is done, make up and happy with my clothes.
However I would never ever dream of posting something like you have. It is damn nasty and spiteful. The fact you noticed that she wasn't wearing a bra must have meant you was having a jolly good stare.
How do you also know it wasn't the nan that was taking them out?

harpsichordcarrier · 16/04/2007 22:27

erm
I bought some for my mother

MrsSchadenfreude · 16/04/2007 22:27

Because they called her Mummy.

LGJ elbows VVQV sharply in the ribs...... depression.............that was my conclusion.........now bugger orf, or I will set the dogs on you.

chocolateface · 16/04/2007 22:28

And now I know why I always get dressed up for the Science Museum.

Wotzsaname · 16/04/2007 22:28

noddyholder that's terrible, poor you, silly cow her!

chocolateface - I had a job where I stood up all day and loved the loafers, you will have to try a pair on..its like finding a really great pair of nickers!

Dinosaur · 16/04/2007 22:28

I wonder if I could marry off some of my DSs to her DDs. She sounds as if she would be a nice relaxed easy-going MIL for my boys .

Dinosaur · 16/04/2007 22:29

noddy

I was waiting for the punchline in the original post. "realised I was looking in a mirror"

SherlockLGJ · 16/04/2007 22:29

How do you know she wasn't wearing a crap bra ??

And if you are that sure, let me know your movements, I don't want to stand next to you in a queue.

Dinosaur · 16/04/2007 22:30

I'm going to get up an extra half hour earlier next time we go to the Science Museum and straighten my hair, put some make-up on and Choose an Outfit (rather than just throwing on whatever's least filthy from the pile on the chair).

And dress the DSs in rags and tatters and see if anyone starts a thread about us .

lionheart · 16/04/2007 22:30

Are those shoes considered hideous, then?
