I saw a woman in the Science Museum today, who really could only be described as having "let herself go"

Grey streaky "hanging" hair, huge arse and fat tum in grey tracky bottoms, footglove shoes, shapeless burgundy tunic top and hanging tits. She really looked like she had given up on life. In contrast, she had three dear little, divinely trendily dressed girls with her. She had obviously put a lot of thought and effort into what they were going to wear (down to the very funky hat one of them was wearing) but hadn't even spent five minutes on herself.

Why?

Oh

My

God

Hunker.

Those deck crocs are the Worst Thing I've Ever Seen.

chocolateface · 17/04/2007 23:34

The deck crocks are like snow shoes with holes in!?!?

Why do so many threads decend into the rights and wrongs of crocs?

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:41

They are foul. Especially in the boaksome-blue.

chocolateface · 17/04/2007 23:44

There are only two types of people; those who like crocs and those who dont. But i think we have repect for people who wear them. Unlike young footglove wearers.

AitchTwoOh · 17/04/2007 23:46

oh dear. dh's are in blue. why is that boaksome? we ummmed and aaaahed and decided they were the least repellent in the shop.

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:46

I told my DH to look at the Wicked Weasel bikini site after that other thread. I'm not going to tell him to go and look at the Crocs site though. It's absolutely disgusting

chocolateface · 17/04/2007 23:48

I told my DH to look at the wicked weasle site, while I was looking at it, and he's rembebered the name of it

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:49

This blue is boaksome in the extreme. Sorry Aitch!

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:50

Oh no! It only links to the black pair. There is a light blue pair right at the bottom (or click the colour swatch). They're vile!

chocolateface · 17/04/2007 23:53

I think they'd look good on some one blond and tanned.

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:53

These are discontinued Can't think why?

AitchTwoOh · 17/04/2007 23:53

by christ they are, aren't they?
the ones dh has (for his Bad Back) are dark blue. still rather vile, though.

NorksBride · 17/04/2007 23:54

That link didn't work either. Bah! I'm off to bed. Hope I don't have nightmares

I daren't ask what "Croc Butter" is.....

tigermoth · 18/04/2007 07:36

thanks for the feedback about fake crocs. I just want to feel comfortable with my decision . Fake ones are £5.00 down Woolwich Market but would I feel really tacky wearing them? Or really foolish spending £30.00 for real ones? Will keep pondering.

And then there's the issue of decoriation. Whatever crocs I buy, should I or should I not weave some small plastic flowers through the holes at the top? Those holes are begging for embellishment IMO.

I've seen it done, and I've always liked plastic flowers on flip flops, so think I might customise whatever I buy - what's the style opinion on that, then?

tigermoth · 18/04/2007 07:37

Hello batters and thanks for the compliment

Judy1234 · 18/04/2007 09:15

There are various issues. One is grey hair and looks. Should women have to conform to some societal norm of how women should look or shoudl they be better spending their resourcs helping the poor than dyeing their hair.

Second is whether not "bothering with yourself" - i.e dying your hair when it goes grey, putting on weight, dressing badly is a sign of depression or a legitimate life choice and those who choose it are freed from the tyranny of having to please other women and men visually.

I could have opted out of the standard female look if I chose but I would lose money/business, my children would be embarrassed and people like the poster here would form a view of me that I perhaps do care about. If I were a better Catholic or even feminist I would eschew the warped values this all represents and instead say - hang the clothes I'm going to work with tramps today and raise funds for Africa which is more important than a session with a bottle of hair dye.
