Am I unusual in being the only mum who had babies in their 20s?

Feel like it round here.

Ds has just enrolled for primary school and some of the future P1 mums have met up a few times. I am officially the "baby" of the bunch at 30!!

Here am I thinking I'm way too old to have another baby and everyone else in my area seems to have started their families at least 10 years later than me.

It's all either teenage pgs or 40 somethings and I'm feeling a little out on a limb at playgroup etc.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

i look like a child so it really wouldnt be beleivable if i acted old anyways

calebsmummy · 28/03/2007 21:56

I had DS1 at nearly 21 and was definately the youngest mum at the school gates. Had DS2 at 29 and DS3 at 31, but I am still one of the 'younger' mums! (33 now)

I also get the same father question because I apparently don't look old enough to have a 13 yr old and we have a nearly 9 yr gap between DS1 and 2, feel it though, I think having 2 in 2 yrs has made me age quicker

i was 19 with my first-im 27 now.there is a huge mix of ages at our school but i find i get on better with the oldest girls as im part of 'that generation that nursed and lost my parents'

mind you i don't mention my age-teenage parents don't go down too well with some people!

lou33 · 29/03/2007 00:07

first one at 25, second one when i was 29, but only just (five days before i hit 30)

chocolateface · 29/03/2007 00:14

Pretend your'e 40 and they'll think you look fabulous for your age
I was 26 when I had DS1, and no one congatulated me. They were all so shocked I was having a baby so young. At the time one of my friends already had a baby. I got pregnant with DS2 when I was 30, which seemed to be much more acceptable.I had DD when I was 33. I now feel far to old to have any more babies! There's a wide age range of mums on our playground, and it's really never bothered me.

I was 20 when I had dd1, when she started nursery I felt like I was the youngest mum out of all the kids in her class, I think I probably was actually.

It doesn't bother me so much now. Out of all the kids in dd1's class now I'm the second youngest, one of the other mums is 1 year younger than me but all the rest are older. A lot of the kids in dd1's class are the youngest of their sibling groups as well which is what makes the gap seem bigger, I think anyway.

I had DS at 18, DD1 at 21, dd2 at 22 and am pregnant again at 28. I still feel young, but then again I get asked for ID for alcohol still People ask me if this is my first baby, when I tell them I have 3 kids at school they look so shocked

AlphaLolly · 29/03/2007 14:57

dd1 - 25

tibsy · 29/03/2007 15:05

i had ds at 19 (month before my 20th bday) and had dd 7 months ago at 32.
a lot of people have said to me 'you dont look old enough to have a 12 yr old' which is very sweet and maybe a little flattering too , but i don't really know how to respond other than 'thanks' or 'of course i'm old enough'!!

tibsy · 29/03/2007 15:08

meant to say that i did feel a little 'out on a limb' with regard to mums and toddler groups at 19, but think that was more a reflection of me, because i wasnt very confident then. thats definitely improved with age

Mirage · 29/03/2007 15:38

I planned to have mine in my late 20's,but years of infertility saw to that plan.So I had dd1 at 34 & dd2 at 36.

had 3 in my 20's 2 in my 30's and expecting one now in my 40's!

ScoobyDooooo · 30/03/2007 09:23

I had ds when i was 20 & dd when i was 23 well 4 weeks of 24, i am now 25 & am not the youngest mum at ds's nursery gates, i speak to alot of mums at the gates & get on well with them, they are of all different ages, but actually if i do sit & think about it the ones who are in there 40's probably don't speak to me mostly the last 20's & 30's i would say!
