Am I unusual in being the only mum who had babies in their 20s?

Feel like it round here.

Ds has just enrolled for primary school and some of the future P1 mums have met up a few times. I am officially the "baby" of the bunch at 30!!

Here am I thinking I'm way too old to have another baby and everyone else in my area seems to have started their families at least 10 years later than me.

It's all either teenage pgs or 40 somethings and I'm feeling a little out on a limb at playgroup etc.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

Zippi- I've wondered about that too. This is a fairly wealthy area. Dh and I sneaked in by buying a wreck to do up so maybe that's why we're so unusual round here?

i had dd when i was 21 and ds when i was 23, im the yougest mummy at dd's nursery by about 10 years and i feel kinda out of place, well did at the begining it's better now! when dd starts school i'll be 26.

fannyannie · 28/03/2007 15:58

feels like it round here too - mostly in their 30's or in their early 20's at the playground.

I had mine at 21, 24 and I'll be 28 when I have this one.

SpookyMadBunny · 28/03/2007 15:58

I was 26 when I had dd1 and 29 when I had dd2...

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/03/2007 16:00

had ds1 at 22 and ds2 at 23.

am still 23 btw.

FairyChocolateDragonsEgg · 28/03/2007 16:04

I know exactly how you feel bobsmum.I had all four of my chldren before the grand old (ha) age of 30. I had my first at twenty (almost a teenage mother!!).

I'm glad I've had my children at a young age but find it very frustrating when people assume you have made this life choice because you are too naive to know better or too stupid to be a career woman.I also get rather fed up having to explain that I had all my children with my DH as if it's not possible for a girl who has her first LO quite young to go on to have more with the same parter,(Grrr )
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack, rant over.

kimiTheEasterBunny · 28/03/2007 16:05

Had DS1 when 25 and DS2 at 29.
Would rather eat my own head then have another child now im 35.

portonovo · 28/03/2007 16:08

It's funny, in my family I was an 'old' mother - having my 3 at ages 24, 26 and 30.

But now two of mine are at secondary school, I notice I am definitely one of the younger parents, many of their friends' parents are in their 50s or even 60s.

bobsmum · 28/03/2007 16:09

lol kimi. Think dh feels like that now - I'm still trying to persuade him we could squeeze another baby in, but I'm 31 in a couple of months and don't want to be a pensioner granny! I want to be a gran with a life!

Ds2 at 24

Dd1 at 33

People do ask daft questions like do they all have the same father? Errrr yes they do as a matter of fact. Not that it's any of your business.

Do feel like an old bag now tho

FairyChocolateDragonsEgg · 28/03/2007 16:13

"People do ask daft questions like do they all have the same father? Errrr yes they do as a matter of fact. Not that it's any of your business."

So glad it's not just me then agalch, was beginning to wonder if it was something to do with my image !!

Miaou · 28/03/2007 16:14

Mmm, I had dd1 at 26, dd2 at 27, ds at 34 and this db will be born just after my 36th birthday.

Most of my mummy pals are a similar age to me - however, most of them are on their first or second baby whereas I'm on my fourth!

talcyone · 28/03/2007 16:22

Had my girls at 27 and 29,
am 36 now
most of the mums of children in my girl's classes are much younger than me.
Actually they all seem to be having babies again......makes me soooo broody

agalch · 28/03/2007 16:27

Lol FairyChocolate annoys me but do laugh it off 99% of the time.

Recently tho i have been casually saying that dp and i are getting married(finally lol)in April just to see the confusion on their faces and the mouths drop lol.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 28/03/2007 16:29

Had mine at 20, 26 & 28. And I am still "anicent, out of touch and "so twenty-five years ago^ apparently!!.. according to the oldest!

FairyChocolateDragonsEgg · 28/03/2007 16:35

LOL agach.I might start a thread on young Mum's with lots of children with same partner and see what reactions others have had!
I do normally laugh it off but not the worst comment I had which was when I met a girl in town who I'd been at (a very pretentious) High School with, she had the audacity to ask me if my children (I had 3 LO's at the time) were all with the same man, my DH was actually standing next to me at the time!!!!!!!! ( and as far as I know I didn't have a bad reputation at school either!)
Congratulations on your impending wedding agach!
Sorry bobsmum, I seem to be hijacking again

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 28/03/2007 16:36

I do feel a bit younger than some of the mums, but there seems to be a wide spectrum at my DDs' school.

I will be 31 when baby number 4 is born and started when I was 23

LilyLoo · 28/03/2007 16:38

24 and 27 and considering ttc another before i reach grand old age of 30 in November.

LittleSarah · 28/03/2007 16:38

Hey

I am twenty-five and have 22 - three. Recently some of my mates have started having kids, they are all a bit older than me but still in their twenties!

bobsmum · 28/03/2007 16:39

So the solution would be to wait a few more years then have another couple at say 35 ish and join a whole new set of mums who would all be the same age as me - but I would be far wiser and more experienced and they would flock to me for my pearls of wisdom.

OP posts:
LittleSarah · 28/03/2007 16:39

have dd not 22!!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 28/03/2007 16:40

LittleSarah, you are 25 with 22 three year olds??? You poor woman!

buktus · 28/03/2007 16:40

had my first at 19 now 25 and i am the youngest mum out of both yr 1 classes i would probably say 80% are in their 40's
