Do you wear strong perfume? Because you make my ruddy head ache and I wish you would stop. Everyone else thinks so too but they are too polite to tell you that you stink.

BarbieLovesKen oooo just u stink away wearing your angel - i dont mind i m sporting happy today

The sort of BO people get from not showering for a day or two is fine, imo, and preferable to loads of perfume. The sort of BO people get from not showering or washing their clothes for several weeks is another matter entirely - but no amount of perfume will make that sort of smell go away.

I like an Issey Miyake perfume (Feu d'Issey? I think?). I like Poison (well, a bit - don't own any, though). I like quite a few scents.

But I generally wear either scented moisturiser, or one spritz of perfume or dab of oil. No fabric softener. No air fresheners in the house (candles once in a while, or room spray ... but like once a month if that).

I do think artificial scents can be fine, as long as you don't use too much. There is no reason to keep spraying the smell on all day. You can't smell it any more because your nose has got used to it - the rest of us can smell it just fine, you don't need to keep spraying on more!

I am defintely going to the chemist to have a smell of Angel, very curious........

NotQuiteCockney · 27/03/2007 10:57

(I totally adore Quorum, which is v cheap and probably not that nice, but has good associations for me. It is only worn by scary strange men, helpfully enough.)

MuminBrum · 27/03/2007 10:57

Fabric conditioners are FOUL and should be banned! My parents' neighbours use one that's so strong that when they start up the tumbledryer, the whole neighbourhood is buried under a smog of stink. And what about Febreze? TRY OPENING THE WINDOW.

expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 10:57

Fabreeze is very bad for pets.

expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 10:58

Using it on your furniture can make your pets really ill.

NotQuiteCockney · 27/03/2007 10:59

The smell of Febreeze makes me really quite poorly. My mom went mad for it, before she died. Thank god it didn't exist when we were kids, we would have died of ODs (as would the pets).

ScottishMummy · 27/03/2007 10:59

i think the general jist here is all things in moderation, as long as smell is not poisoning the fish and eco-system

as a tenager i was guilty of toxic use of dewberry from bodyshop -as a consequence i heave when i smell it

MuminBrum · 27/03/2007 11:00

Whenever I buy anything via Ebay, it almost always honks of Febreze. What's that all about?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 27/03/2007 11:01

My MIL wears Youth Dew and although she does not have a 40-a-day habit it just doesn't smell clean. I like nice smells, love DKNY Be Delicious(The Apple one) and currently wearing Ralph Lauren 'Style' which is nice and light and can only be smelt on me if you are really close. Also love fabric cond and scented candles are brilliant at getting rid of the lingering smell of dinner.

Speaking of arse, if you have ever stood at the baggage carousel at Gatwick Airport at 6.30am when the Red-eye from Orlando is waiting to collect their bags, you will know that the smell of any perfume is preferable to that assault of breath, arse and general damp hair smell.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Overrun · 27/03/2007 11:01

Blimey, such strong views. I really love plug in air fresheners and smelly fabric conditioners. But, I quite like wearing perfume, so there
I like Kenzo or some other light one for the day. At night I put on J'adore and I do love it

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2007 11:02

Overrun, I just know that you smell lovely

MuminBrum - probably knock off

bit like the perfumes they sell done the markets far too cheaply probably pissy diluted eau de knockoff

FrannyandZooey · 27/03/2007 11:05

Oh and for a while I wore vanilla essence (as since having ds any perfume gives me a headache) but I kind of stopped that after having a bloke I fancy walk into the room and say "What the hell smells of candyfloss in here???"

OP posts:
Crazydazy · 27/03/2007 11:05

Overrun I am the same, I love nice smells, have lots of plug ins, fabric conditioner is a must and also use ironing water. I like the smell of fresh air too and do open my windows but I love the clean smell of air freshener. I am not happy with my dryer at the mo as the clothes going in smelling lovely and come out smelling of nothing. Even the conditioner sheets don't help.

Blandmum · 27/03/2007 11:07

I wear No5 or Elixer or Rive gauche or Eau dynamisante. Small amounts only at wrist.

I shower daily and use anti perspirent.

I well remember the teachers who used to smell when I was a child, and so I am determined that I will never smell of BO!

Overrun · 27/03/2007 11:07

God so [bblush] meant to say I "loathe" fabric conditioners and plug ins. I am allergic to them, they make me Wheeze. How could I have made such an error.
I do like perfume though

Overrun · 27/03/2007 11:08

I am sorry CrazyDazy, I feel like I have let you down now

Overrun I knew it! I kept coming back shaking my head and thinking "I can't believe Overrun has a house full of air fresheners"

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 27/03/2007 11:09

That's true, Mellow. Last year wasn't so bad as we had a late frost and it killed off a lot of those wasps, but I don't wear perfume in summer because of that.
