Met my DM for coffee ☕ in the Sainsbury's café, went to DS2's sharing assembly, picked DD up because singing 🎤🎵🎶🎼 was cancelled, had fish pie 🐟🐠🐡 for supper, DS2's in bed, DD's going now. 😴😆🍸🍺🍻🍷🍹

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 14/06/2017 10:12

Morning. Sorry I was AWOL yesterday, I had a mad day which started at 6.30 and ended at about 10.30pm with not much of a break! Much of it involved ferrying children here and there at various times, I did one route six times in total!

Anyway, today started out not much better, I managed to chuck Weetabix over myself, DS2 and the dining room floor when I somehow managed to drop his bowl on my lap and then, 5 minutes later, spilt my coffee down my top! So I ended up going to drop DD2 to school with quite a few wet patches over myself where I'd tried to clean up! DD2 was mortified and told me it looked like I'd wet myself. Cheers, DD2!

However all this seems rather trite and completely irrelevant when compared to what is happening in London at the moment. Those poor, poor people. At the very least, they have lost their homes and all of their possessions, at the very worst - well, it doesn't bear thinking about. I wish there was something I could do. If I lived nearer, I'd open up my house and let people come in and shower, have a cup of tea, use the phone etc. I feel so helpless. I'm sure there'll be a Red Cross fund set up that I can donate to, but I wish there was something practical I could do.

Such sad times at the moment. Sad

It is very very sad. 😢

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 14/06/2017 23:48

Evening, both of you.

Such horrific scenes from London today. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected.

And my God, firefighters are amazing! To run into something like that to try and help - how grateful I am that there are people like that in this world. Thinking of them too, it must be emotionally and physically exhausting trying to deal with something like that.

Hope you're both okay.

See you tomorrow x

Long old day this end. DD has Sports Day which has exacerbated her hay fever. Her eyes were virtually swollen shut at bedtime Sad

Anyway. Yes. The emergency services are awe-inspiring. The pictures and the stories of the fire are awful. It is so so sad and frightening that that could happen in 2017. It's utterly heartbreaking Sad

Catch up tomorrow. Sleep well xx

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 15/06/2017 05:18

Morning! Drinking coffee and watching BBC world news. 😆☕

Had to go to Asda to pick up DD's school shoes yesterday, had breakfast there, I had double poached eggs on toast, they were hard 😢, picked DS2 up, had 4 cheese carbonara for supper, picked DD up, she'd had a packed supper there. 😆

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 15/06/2017 10:25

I'm having a big breakfast sandwich today. 😆

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 15/06/2017 11:45

Morning!

Sassy, your poor DD. Sounds awful. Have you considered putting a wet flannel in the fridge to cool it down and then letting her lie back with it over her eyes? Sorry if I'm sounding obvious.

EDBD - yum! But boo to the hard eggs! I like my eggs so that they're just starting to turn hard on the outside of the yolk but the very inside is still runny. You can't dunk your toast in a hard egg!

My feelings of sadness over the Grenfell Tower fire are being overtaken by anger today. I just think, it's in one of the richest boroughs in London, yet this has happened. If it was a multi-million pound development like so many are, then for sure there'd be more than one bloody staircase, a sprinkler system and alarms that work. So why is social housing any less worthy? If anything it's MORE necessary because a lot of those could be vulnerable e.g. families with young children, the elderly, etc. It feels like it's just another example of cost-cutting and demonising those who are less well-off. How is it okay in this day and age to let people live in a building that is so potentially dangerous? And all this 'work was done to the required standard' just smacks of arse-covering to me. There's doing the bare minimum and then there's doing what is actually a decent job. Just sodding typical of so many local government offices. And the worst thing is, I highly doubt that there is one person who made this decision, who can be held accountable, it'll be made by several different committees over different departments often not talking properly to each other and the end result is no-one's accountable, no-one's responsible.

Anyway, I could be completely wrong and talking out of my backside! I guess more information will come out over the next few days or so. But now, I feel so angry, I'm actually crying tears of anger typing this. Angry

Sorry for the rant!

Hope you both are having good days and I'll try and be less intense in my next post! X

Hi both. Absolutely manic day this end. Shattered and not over yet, got friend coming over later to pull together funding application. DD struggling. Up a lot in the night and had to give her inhaler as she was struggling to breathe poor thing. Had to tell school she's no longer allowed outside at school until we bring it under control. Friend has ordered her a cooling eye-mask so hoping that will help Malcolm. Her whole was swollen in the night which was why she was struggling to breathe. Her allergy to grass pollen is through the roof Sad

Yes, the Grenfell Tower fire is truly shocking Malcolm. Hearing that Theresa May didn't visit anyone affected today made me angry. It's so sad to know that in the coming days we'll hear some awful stories about lots of people and families Sad It's awful. And so unnecessary!!

So rant away Malcolm, am def with you! Xx

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 15/06/2017 21:06

Picked DS2 up, went to the park, picked DD up, went to Sainsbury's, DS2 had chicken nuggets, chips and peas, DD had macaroni cheese, I had a BBQ pulled pork roll, the DC had ice cream sandwiches for pudding, back home, all in bed now. 🍗🍟🍨😴

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 16/06/2017 05:21

Morning! Drinking coffee and watching BBC world news. 😆☕

SassynSane · 16/06/2017 07:01

Morning Brew It's Friiiidaaayyy! Yay!

Had meant to write DDs whole face had swollen in the night... We both slept through last night through sheer exhaustion more than anything else! The school is doing a whole school activity outside today....poor mite may have to miss out. Can't risk her having such an extreme reaction Sad

Hugely busy day at work for me today again....and PTA stuff to sort this weekend for various events coming up. It feels like it's never-ending at the moment...already looking forward to my bed later and not having to get up tomorrow!

Hope you both have a good day x

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 17/06/2017 08:55

Gosh, Sassy - your poor DD! That sounds terrible. I hope the swelling has gone down and that she's not too uncomfortable with the hot weather this weekend - I'm not sure how that works with the pollen count.

Had a lovely evening yesterday, DD2 was at a school sleepover organised by the Friends (they're fab!) and we went over to some friends for a BBQ (DS1 babysat the two babies). We just sat outside for ages chatting, drinking (well, I was driving but, everyone else was drinking!) and generally having a great time. When we looked at our watches it had gone midnight! We eventually got home just before 1am.

It's so funny, my FB feed last night was FULL of parents from the school all doing similar things, and at our friend's house in the next village along, there were at least two other parties/BBQs happening where children were at the sleepover!

Our PTA deserve a medal!!! 🏅🏅🏅🏆

However the downside was I had to collect DD2 at 8am 😩. Then DD1 has ballet at 10, DD2 has a party from 10.30-12.45 and they both have flute at 1.30. So a busy day.

But the weather is gorgeous, so I'm going to make the most of what is undoubtedly our summer before normal weather resumes! ☔️💨🌥

I hope you both have a really lovely day!

Sounds like a lovely eve last night Malcolm. We occasionally think about doing a school sleepover...be interested to hear how it works?

Stayed inside largely today to keep DD out of the pollen. Essentially June-Aug is grass pollen season and hot dry days make it worse...it rises in the morning and then comes down again in the evening, when it's rainy it doesn't rise and so it can't be breathed in, in the same way. So yes this weather won't help matters. However her new medication has kicked in and she's a not quite as bad as she
thankfully. She's been swimming this aft and managed that ok bless her.

Weather been so good today and sounds like more of the same for the next few days...yay Smile Hope you've both managed to enjoy it x

SassynSane · 17/06/2017 19:01

How odd...part of my post not made it...*quite as bad as she has been thankfully... Wink

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 17/06/2017 23:38

I woke up at 5.20, DS2 was already awake, DD woke up at 8.45, had chocolate chip briochettes, went to a children's birthday party, got home at 10.15, all in bed now. 🍫🎀🎁🎂🎈🎇🎉🎊😴

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 18/06/2017 10:10

Morning! I woke up at 4, the DC woke up at 9.30, DD's playing on her bed DS2's playing on his tablet on mine. 😆

SassynSane · 18/06/2017 23:14

Evening! Well I wrote a long post but it didn't post...grrr...anyway...hope you've both had a good day? Lovely chilled one this end. DD went out with exDP for a few hours so took the opportunity to get outside and sunbathed / MNetted / read my book. Was lovely. Am glowing a bit tonight though.

So hot tonight...was 33 degs upstairs when I last checked...sleep might be hard but not working tomorrow so can cope. Gorgeous weather so shouldn't complain. Looking forward to more of the same tomorrow as back working rest of week as lots going on right now...

DD still a bit grotty but not as bad as she was middle of the week so keeping fingers crossed she can keep going until the pollen dies down.

Hope you've both had a good day and have enjoyed the sunshine. Catch up tomorrow x

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 18/06/2017 23:19

Went to a Tolkien Society meeting in Morden, a lovely garden for the DC to play in, lovely food and we talked about Tolkien. 😆🍸🍺🍻🍷🍹WineGin🍰🍝🍗🍞🍓Cake Got back at 9.45, all in bed. 😴

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 18/06/2017 23:31

Hi, you two!

Been rather a mixed weekend, to be honest. I don't know WHAT I did to my back yesterday, but as I was getting DS2 out of his highchair after breakfast, I felt it go and then, my God! It was like the worst kind of cramp x1000 right in the middle of my back, going round to the sides. I couldn't stand, I couldn't walk, I was literally in tears with it, it was so painful it made me feel sick.

I took two high strength ibuprofen and then an hour or so later, two of my strong migraine medication (doesn't contain ibuprofen so safe to take together) and it slowly got to the point where I could move again, but it was really sore all day. Definitely muscular, some kind of spasm. Was horrible! I managed to get some sleep and today it's been fine, although I can still feel it there, iykwim!

But today has been lovely. We had a BBQ in our garden and my parents came over. DH made homemade lamb and beef sliders, we had barbecued corn on the cob, veggie kebabs and asparagus wrapped in prosciutto (got to thank my friends at Friday night's BBQ for that idea!). I made a potato salad and a pasta salad. It was delicious, although I got full really quickly because it was so flipping hot!

Then it took me nearly an hour to clear everything up afterwards, including mopping the dining room floor because it looked like the two youngest had had a food fight in there!

My mum made homemade raspberry pavlova for pudding. It was bloody lovely.

However, my room temp is now just under 29 degrees, even though we kept the blinds shut to keep out the sun and have got the fan going! Dread to think how hot your house is, Sassy!

Re the sleepover, it's such a good idea. It cost £15 and you had to pay when you sent back the form asking for a place. I think there were 50 spaces available on a first come, first served basis. Children had to bring a sleeping mat/air mattress, sleeping bag and pillow. Parents were asked to inflate mattresses when dropping off. No electronic devices allowed whatsoever, or sweets/snacks. Included in the price was Dinner, which this time was Dominoes Pizza (DD2 doesn't eat cheese, so I provided a packed tea for her, at the Chair's request). There was some kind of a chocolate pudding affair.

Drop off was at 7pm, children had to be signed in (and then out again at pick up) with a contact number written next to their name.

There were at least two teachers who had volunteered to sleep over, as well as several PTA members.

The children watched a film (Sing) and were given popcorn and glowsticks to wave about.

In the morning, they had breakfast and then we collected at 8am.

I don't know how much profit is made, but the kids absolutely LOVE it! I'm happy to ask my PTA Chair if I can pass her details on to you, Sassy, if you like? She only lives a couple of doors away from me!

I also hope your DD hasn't suffered too much today. It sounds utterly horrendous, poor thing. Is there anything stronger the GP can give her at all? Or maybe a trial of a small dose of steroids over a longer term period? (Which was one of the things DD2 was given by Great Ormond Street when she was seeing a consultant about potential allergies/intolerances, although these were food related and not of the anaphylactic sort). Feel free to tell me to butt out and I'm certainly not trying to teach you how to suck eggs! 🐣🥚

Hope your day was good too, EDBD - how's ED'sLad doing?

Anyway, I'm off to melt sleep now. Catch you both tomorrow!

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 18/06/2017 23:33

Gosh, EDBD - I just saw what time your DCs woke up today! 9.30?!!! Did you slip a bit of whiskey into their bedtime drink?! 😂🥃🥛

OP posts:
MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 18/06/2017 23:34

Aaaand I've just seen that you've both posted whilst I was writing my rather lengthy post! Off to read them properly now.

OP posts:
MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 19/06/2017 10:41

OMG I'm melting!!!! 🔥💦

There's just no air at all where I am, I've got all the windows and doors open, but it's still 26 degrees INSIDE my house! 😫

Yep, I really don't like it when it's this hot. Warm spring or summer's day - lovely. This sort of weather when you're abroad and don't have to do anything except sit by the pool - great. But in this country? Where everything is pretty well insulated against the cold and damp we get most of the time? Noooooooo!

Just been putting the shopping away - I didn't want to shut the freezer door! 🙂

Hope you're both not too hot and that your DD is okay today, Sassy.

Catch you later!
