I also never got on with non-applicator tampons and thought the Mooncup looked horrific when I first got it - but now I LOVE IT!

i have been thinking about getting an MC for ages but not done it yet.some questions for you veterans;

-is it like using a cap?

• i have had problems with caps in the past and have ended up with constant cystisis

-what do you do if the public loo you need to use has the sink on the outside of the cubicle? How do you wash it in these circumstances?

• do you need to buy more than one?

okeydokeygirl, I had a cap once and hated it. Uncomfortable and unpleasant with the spermicide I had to use with it, and those foaming pessaries things, ugh ugh ugh.

Mooncup is wonderful! Got used to it quickly and it has saved me a mint

If in a public loo, I empty it, wipe it out with toilet tissue and reinsert. You can carry one of those mini bottles with water in it (from Boots, with the travel pot things for decanting stuff so you don't carry the full size item on your hols.) I don't find I need to though. I like to carry small packs of wet wipes with me but they aren't strictly necessary. Practice at home first.

Just to add to the moon cup worship - another advantage. I find that it's loads more comfortable to wear with a thong than when using a tampon. Tampons are strictly big pants only.

And you don't have to carry your handbag with you to the loo at work and advertise your menstrual cycle to the whole office.

Well I have never used a cap but understand that it fits over your cervix whereas the Mooncup sits nearer the exit of your vagina

Was it the insertion / removal that caused this, do you think?

I just wait until I get home but I don't have to empty it very often. I have heard people say they just wipe it - as long as you give it a clean 4 times in every 24 hours the Mooncup people say it is ok

No, you just wash it each time you empty it, and sterilise between cycles. HTH

The best mooncup loo is one where you can reach a basin while still sitting on the loo (disabled loos often the best bet).

Failing that you need to get yourself a big wodge of loo paper for wiping yourself and the mc before and after.

The rim of the cap was the problem for me - I was very aware of its presence, just from the way it felt in situ. Not so the mooncup, which is a different shape - actually, I wonder as I write this whether you mean a dutch cap or a diaphragm? I had the latter but it was known colloquially as a cap, though perhaps more strictly that should only have described the dutch cap.

And I agree, Shimmy21, about the 'best mooncup loo'!

Have sympathy with anyone who has to deal with this accompanied by inquisitive observers!

Love, love, love my mooncup! Wouldn't do anything else now. Also ran the Great North Run with it in place (2nd month of use)
