Well, I'd wait til you have a period

mawbroon · 01/03/2007 13:33

Thanks for the tip shonaspurtle. I seem to be getting on much better with it today and it even makes a kind of sooky noise when I pull it back down that wee bit, so that must be it sealing.

I will brave the swimmming pool with mine decafskinnylatte once I have successfully managed a good few leak free days.

PrettyCandles · 01/03/2007 13:41

Once you're used to them you can do anything with it in. I've swum with mine many times.

I also didn't 'do' non-applicator tampons, b ut the M is not the same at all.

TR - post-birth, you don't mean for the bleeding after birth do you? Definitely not for that! I would say not to use the M until you've had comfortable sex IYSWIM.

Monkeytrousers · 01/03/2007 13:44

I recently docked my mooncups tail. Is that legal?

charlieq · 01/03/2007 13:54

I had to dock mine RIGHT down MT

I must have no length, or my pelvic floor has totally gone

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 14:01

well I have been caught short today, af arrived and my mooncup is at home (am at work)

I am wearing one of my Emergency Sanitary Towels and it feels horrible

Can't wait to get home to my lovely mooncup

I have docked its tail too monkeytrousers but it doesn't seem to be suffering unduly

UniSarah · 01/03/2007 20:50

so- how does teh mooncup "get on" with coil threads? what the risk of pulling your own coil out?
how does it compare to tampons for time between changes/washings. is it like using a regular, super or super plus?
wher does one buy a moon cup.
All these questions and more... I'm thinking about taking the plunge. does seem ridiculas to be bining all those towel and tampons every month.

detoxdiva · 01/03/2007 20:59

UniSarah - I use the mooncup and have the coil. Never had any problems - after the initial getting used to putting it in, I love my mooncup and wouldn't go back to pads

lazymoo · 02/03/2007 00:10

It is not unheard of for a mooncup to 'pull' you coil out. Don't most Docs tell you not to use Tampax for the first 3 periods after coil insertion so wouldn't that apply to a a mooncup also?, to give the coil time to bed in.

NotanOtter · 02/03/2007 00:20

mooncups scare me
i would not entertain non applicator tampon yikes!

well since we are on the subject..... I can NEVER get a good seal on mine, no amount of twisting or suction or gurning or prodding. It ALWAYS leaks before it's full and so I have to use a pad as well.

Since you asked

Or maybe I have a shower attachement up my fanjo.

BabiesEverywhere · 02/03/2007 13:38

I bought a mooncup before getting preganant but I think I'll need a different size mooncup post baby...bucket fanjo mooncup, anybody ?

mawbroon · 02/03/2007 16:46

bloss - not on any hormonal contraceptive here, so stringy bits can't be related to that in my case.
I just got a thank you card through the post from Ethical superstore where I bought mine. Very nice, except it said on it that Mawbroon had bought a Mooncup and it was a flier type thing which wans't in an envelope so now the postie and everyone in the sorting office knows that I have a Mooncup. Hmm, do you think it's worth emailing them to complain?

Monkeytrousers · 02/03/2007 21:09

Suzywong, are you engaging your pelvic floor upon insertion?

The true geek in me notices that the blood changes colour and consitancy during the period. I alwasy wonder if it signals that the egg has gone. Where's MB when you need her...

kittylette · 02/03/2007 21:11

anyone want one?/

its unused of course lol

i bought it and it looks horrific - im not even attempting it!!

i think i cut the stem - i cant remember,

charlieq · 02/03/2007 22:55

MT I think the egg is actually shed before the period. The changes you observe are due to the different layers of the endometrium shedding and the blood vessels in the womb bleeding more in the early days. I think.

Monkeytrousers · 03/03/2007 14:02

Really? Thanks Charlieq

NannyL · 05/03/2007 00:14

LOVE my moon cup

been using it for nearly a year now

i wore it swimming on the forst day i EVER used it....
had a couple of minor leaks in month 1 and month 2 (but was using a panty liner then anyway so no big deal)

I only change it once per 24 hours (in the evening b4 bed)

I LOVE it and would never ever go back to anything else again! I love knowing im never gonna have to landfill another disposable sanitary product again!

twinklingstar · 05/03/2007 00:49

UniSarah, re time between changes, the mooncup holds about 25-30 mls. The easiest way to tell how often you need to empty it is to check when you go to the loo, you will soon learn how often is the right interval for you.

I wasn't warned about not using tampons when I had a coil inserted, so just carried on using the mooncup as well Logically I think it must be less likely to cause a problem than tampons, as perhaps the coil's strings could get tangled in the cotton of a tampon, but strings wouldn't have anything to get caught on with a mooncup.

You can buy Mooncups at Boots, but they seem to do sneaky things like put them on the lowest shelf, two inches off the floor - they must really want to sell us all the other gear they have there, LOL. You can also buy one online.

The leaks that posters have commented on - have you tried rotating the mooncup after you have inserted it to ensure that it has fully opened and sealed?

There is a mooncup website, if you have anymore questions or comments they can be emailed. mooncup

lazymoo · 06/03/2007 14:55

I didn't mean getting the strings caught in the mooncup, I ment the suction pulling it out.

DimpledThighs · 06/03/2007 15:01

I have only ever heard about them on here but you are all so pasionate I am tempted to give it a go.

Where do you get them from?

twinklingstar · 06/03/2007 21:39

Dimpledthighs, you can buy them in Boots or from the Mooncup website and probably lots of other places I'm not aware of

Click on link for the Mooncup website for fullest information on my post from yesterday. Hth.
