  1. How would you describe yourself with reference to religion? (i.e. Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, Humanist, Pagan etc)
  1. Write down one sentence, phrase, or passage that you associate with church. It could be something from the bible, could be part of a hymn, could be something from a regular service, a wedding service - whatever!

Thanks very much - I'll tell you why later, but can't really yet as it might affect your answers!

(1) A Cathodist (Catholic/Methodist - comverted 2003 for DH) who'd rather stay at home in pjs and read the comics than go to mass ... but whose mom, dad & 2 sisters are all extreme baptist evangelicals [frightened emoticon] ... feel caught between sometimes ...

(2)Any hymn written between 1700 and 1940. They are the best aspect of a worship service & the only thing I enjoy out of church these days. Hymns written in the 1960s - present are the worst aspect of a worship service, for me. Most of them IMO are mediocre (at best). The Catholic churches seem new to the hymn thing & IMO don't do it well.

Atheist, but brought up RC till 13 and confirmed in CofE at school's request 14 to 'counteract evils of divorce' and because the choir needed another soprano

The words I associate most are irrelevant and intolerant. The churchy phrase

'My soul doth magnify the lord, and my spirit doth rejoice in god the saviour'

Jesus died for our sins ( always hated the idea of someone being killed for me)

a) Formerly Catholic but now I like to just see myself as Christian

b) On the third day he took the cup. Again he gave you thanks and praise gave the cup to his disciples and said, "take this all of you, and drink it. This is my blood which will be given up for you." And then a bell used to ring...

PS I know I've got words from b wrong but it's recalling back 15 years since I last attended a Catholic mass! I'm sure there was also a bit about breaking bread but can't get the words right...
