Dp has just run some bloke over

Dp has just gone out to find a petrol station open 24 hours for milk for the kids in the morning. He was doing 30 in a 30 zone when a bloke literally bolted out of nowhere in front of the car. Before Dp had a chance to see him, he had hit him and he flew across the road and crumpled in a heap. Dp obviously stopped and jumped out to check he was ok and was joined by the bloke's young mates, one of them puched dp in the face. The bloke insisted he was fine and urged dp to go home. He is now home and a nervous wreck. What do you think he should do? phone the police?

Yes because an increase in her insurance excess is exactly what the OP is worrying about right now well no she wouldn't be, that's kind of why I suggested it. I have seen people's excess of £250 jump to £1000 because they didn't report within the time limit (usually 24hrs) so that piece of advice actually could have been helpful.

Honestly, some of you lot could have a fight in an empty room.

Do you mean excess, or premium? You can select what level of excess you want on your policy, and a higher one will help keep the premium lower.

well its pretty obvious why he drove away again in a fright since he stopped and was assaulted. Your poor dh. He does need to speak to them tonight so he can be breathalysed,

But, as I pointed out, you select your own premium when shopping around for a policy. An insurance company doesn't put it higher because of a claim.

Are you this arsey in real life?

Report
thatdearoctopus · 15/01/2017 16:29

Sorry, I meant you select your own excess.

Report
Reality16 · 15/01/2017 16:32

thatdearoctopus I'm not being arsey but it may have been helpful if you had read my post correctly before trying to tell me how excess affects premiums. Maybe then you would have realised that isn't remotely what I was saying.

An insurance company doesn't put it higher because of a claim.. This is EXACTLY Awhat some insurance companies do if you don't report an accident within the stipulated time limit.

That is why I suggested that the OP should check her policy. So she didn't get caught out.

WTF is arsey about that Hmm

thatdearoctopus · 15/01/2017 16:34

I wonder if the crowd of young men running had anything to do with the "major incident" the police were already dealing with.

Report
thatdearoctopus · 15/01/2017 16:36

Arsey people can seldom see when their attitude is aggressive so I'm not going to try to explain.

If your insurance company tries that, you take your custom elsewhere. You declare any incident, of course, and whilst your premium might be higher (with some, not all, companies), you select online whether you want, say £100 voluntary excess, or higher. Higher will reduce the overall premium.

Report
Reality16 · 15/01/2017 16:42

Again. I'm not talking about premiums.

Taking your custom elsewhere would not help in this instance as the excess would be relating to the incident that had already taken place.

I'm not being aggressive in any way. You seem to be repeating yourself about premiums. I never mentioned premiums.

Report
thatdearoctopus · 15/01/2017 16:46

No, but I'm thinking you don't know what you're talking about. The excess you pay for an incident that has already taken place is fixed at the point at which the policy is taken out. Why do you think the insurance company will increase it?

No, but I'm thinking you don't know what you're talking about. The excess you pay for an incident that has already taken place is fixed at the point at which the policy is taken out. Why do you think the insurance company will increase it?. Because, like I said in my very first post about notifying insurance, some companies have a clause that states if you do not report within 'time limit' that your excess will rise to X amount. It is not a common thing, it's often seen in the lesser known/used companies and some business insurance, but it is absolutely a possibility.

You can think I don't know what I am talking about as much as you like, but I was genuinely trying to help the OP when I posted about insurance notification and I took that from a business that I work in every day.

that person never mentioned anything about the possibility of an increase in excess did they??

Well done for pointing out the reality of insurance requirements Reality. But surely a venal interest in the price of car insurance should never cross one's mind when faced with such a life-threatening incident?

I have to say I was highly pissed off at having to bear the cost of replacing the panel of my car when some fuckwit bloke blundered into it through no fault of my own. I drove off too and reported it at a safe distance. But I'm pretty selfish.

Oh fucksake another one.

I only ever mentioned it as an aside to the you need to report it asap - that is a fact regardless of anything else. I'm not sure how the OP DH life was threatened? Talk abut adding arms and bloody Legs on Confused

Fuckssake Reality16 I mean a life threatening incident to the man the driver hit. Surely you haven't forgotten about him? He was lying in the road, remember? Who knows where his arms and legs were. That's a horrible image you've introduced that I'm now trying to scrub from my mind's eye.

Obviously you should report an incident to your insurers after reporting it to the police, as any fule no.

But it was good of you to point that out and also to point out that you were the only person on this thread to point that out.

Well no of course I haven't forgotten about him Confused Perhaps you missed my numerous posts where I suggested an ambulance should have been called? The insurance comment came long after several posts about the fact that an ambulance should have been called. Posts that I had to defend over and over again because the poor driver got punched! Im not sure why you have decided to pick at my posts (you are behind a long line of people on this thread anyway) but if Ou do want to continue perhaps you should check ALL of them before picking out one about insurance. I expressed concern for the person who was hit time and time again, and against everyone else.
