Dp has just run some bloke over

Dp has just gone out to find a petrol station open 24 hours for milk for the kids in the morning. He was doing 30 in a 30 zone when a bloke literally bolted out of nowhere in front of the car. Before Dp had a chance to see him, he had hit him and he flew across the road and crumpled in a heap. Dp obviously stopped and jumped out to check he was ok and was joined by the bloke's young mates, one of them puched dp in the face. The bloke insisted he was fine and urged dp to go home. He is now home and a nervous wreck. What do you think he should do? phone the police?

Ops partner is shaken after a very shocking experience and there are people coming on to criticise his actions. Fucks sake are you suggesting people should show sympathy regardless of his actions?

I'd love to be able to pop out for milk at 1am!

I'm not even awake at 1 am.

I have more concern for the poor man who tried to do the right thing and got punched. Less concern for someone who runs into the road and then refuses an ambulance.- 2 separate situations (albeit linked) does this mean you would always feel for someone who got punched and never feel for someone who got hit by a car Confused surely you are intelligent enough to realise that the fact he was punched doesn't lessen what happened before hand? I'm not saying the punch was justified (just to clarify) but I do think to treat these issues separately is a sensible idea

What actions?

He had a guy run into his car
He got out of the car
Guys mate turned up and punched him
He stayed with guy checking he was ok and was persuaded not to call the police
He phoned the police when he got home
The police were unconcerned enough NOT to come out straight away.

What exactly has OP's partner done wrong here?

Did you need lessons in how to be patronising and rude?

Yes, I am. But what happened beforehand wasn't his fault either.

Absolutely nothing, exLtEveDallas. But there are people on here who would start a fight in an empty house.

He phoned the police when he got home

The OP said he didn't want to phone the police straight away and was only persuaded to do so after the OP came on here and asked what to do.

And we don't know when the police came round because the OP hasn't posted since 01:40.

Seriously if you walk out into a road without looking there's a fairly good chance you will be knocked over. Its the first thing you teach children when they are learning to cross the road! Yet I see people doing this all the time, a level crossing just yards away but they will still walk straight out without looking, it's like they have a death wish or something.

Reality you are obvioulsy just trolling. Go away.

"The OP said he didn't want to phone the police straight away and was only persuaded to do so after the OP came on here and asked what to do."

And a good job that she did. Obviously, a lot of people are unaware of the law when it comes to incidents like this. So we have all learned something from this thread.

Luckily the police were contacted and we will have to wait and see what the outcome is.

Anyone else remember the good old days where it was only AIBU threads that people got flamed on? You're not safe anywhere on MN now it seems.

This whole "oh it's very suspicious that he went out to get milk at 1am" business is hilarious. We know for a fact that he doesn't do evening shifts do we? Nothing unusual about getting home from work realising that you haven't got enough milk, then popping out again. Even that isn't it, what the hell business is it of anyone else if someone wants to pop out at 1am to get milk. Not a single bloody one of you is perfect btw.

I sometimes think the speculation on here reads like a creative writing exercise.

What if things happened just like the OP said?

Like in the real world where people run out of milk at 1 am and pedestrians wander into the road after closing time.

TBF anything not posted by the OP is speculation because nobody knows. 14 men may have been chasing the man that got hit, the man that got hit may or may not have run in front of the car etc....

It doesn't matter whether any of it is made up. In that situation it is reasonable that a person would drive off without calling the police and believable (though foolish) that they might not think to report it.

But he has called now so I'm sure the police will sort it out.

LandLock · 15/01/2017 11:21

He is now in a position of having to explain why he didn't, and the most obvious assumption is going to be it was to avoid being breathalyzed, particularly s the story bout needing milk at 1 am is odd, to say the least

Buying milk or whatever at 1 really, really isn't odd. At least I hope not as it's the type of thing I do and I'm not disorganised. We have lots of 24 hours garages and several 24 our supermarkets around where we live. I don't think they stay open just for fun.

That's not what the OP said. She said they didn't come around because there was a major incident.

Keep to the facts people. Wink
