In that case I should show this thread to DH and tell him to count himself lucky !

Nutty, I had the Urban Detour Pinnacle and it was fantastic, really light to push and dead sturdy. Sold it 'cos it was pretty massive to get in the boot.

sanssouci · 21/06/2004 01:07

Yup. My solid Quattro Tour is too big for my car. Once I shove it into the boot, I can't get anything else in. Like food. Which is the point of going out with the thing in the car anyway. I guess.

xoz · 21/06/2004 01:08

I fyou're going to get a three wheeler get one with a swivelling front wheel, I have an Urban Detour which is great and was a good price too.

suzywong · 21/06/2004 01:10

but be warned mothercare three wheelers don't let you fit a buggy board on the back

NomDePlume · 21/06/2004 01:10

My buggy fetish seems to have given way to an alarming rise in my shoe collection . I should be locked up, it's no wonder DH confiscated my Barclaycard !!

sanssouci · 21/06/2004 01:11

Okay. Tell me about the attraction of the 3 wheeler. I thought they were jogging strollers?

sanssouci · 21/06/2004 01:14

And yes, I realise that Graco is about as uncool as you can get but for some reason, I'm terribly fond of them. (Sorry, Islandgirl... you must be very worried about the sanity of some of your fellow MNers!)

NomDePlume · 21/06/2004 01:14

They are just soo light to push, it is really amazing. Even with a big heavy toddler in it. They are fab if you do a fair bit of general walking and the seats are really roomy for bigger kids.

fairydust · 21/06/2004 01:14

three wheelers are a nightmare if you use public transport.

we've had 4

a britax travel system - mum's shed
a urban detour three wheeler - given to charity
m&p Aria - sold to sil
maclaren techno xt - the best and most used.

suzywong · 21/06/2004 01:14

she's right

maisystar · 21/06/2004 01:15

they can overcome obstacles such as kerbs, cobbles, sand(great for holidays), mud, tree roots!? are so much easier to push up hills-very handy where i live!

I meant NDP but fairy dust is right too

islandgirl · 21/06/2004 01:16

you have all really cheered me up - fantastic bunch of nutters!!!!
I have 2 children and have had 2 buggies, 1 three-wheeler which was great, and a mclaren, equally brilliant.
But now I feel so inadequate!!!!

sanssouci · 21/06/2004 01:17

Oh, don't! Feel inadequate, I mean. Most seem to swear by Maclaren. Should I try it? Or should I get a life?

suzywong · 21/06/2004 01:18

although one of my fleet is a maclaren, they infuriate me when they tip backwards when kid leaps out and shopping is balanced on handles, and the brakes are rubbish too

xoz · 21/06/2004 01:20

WHY? dh asked the same question...
We have one (an Inglesina something or other) in a storage shed in Australia (which means it doesn't really count.)
We had 2 double buggies (a Graco Duosport and an Emmaljunga Grizzly) because I was trying to decide which one I liked best after dd2 was born.
We had our 3 wheeler (Urban Detour) which we bought when we first came over here for dd1 and we also had a Mothercare layback stroller for keeping in the car boot and for taking on holidays (got that one after DH had to carry the 3W up the Eiffel Tower!!!)
Only have 4 now. Sold the Emmaljunga on Ebay and am in the process of disposing of the Grace Duosport. The Monthercare buggy gave up the ghost in March and was replaced with a Steelcraft stroller which we bought in Australia while on holidays....
I'm really not crazy.... or buggy obsessed... i promise...

islandgirl · 21/06/2004 01:20

have to agree brakes are rubbish, but at least you have a handle to put shopping on - not like the three wheeler.

NomDePlume · 21/06/2004 01:20

I have to say that IO hated the whole fashion victim idea of 3 wheelers when I was preg with DD. Everyone was getting them and the 'urban cool accessory for super cool parents' image made me want to barf !

However, having used one I can fully recommend them. Agree that they are appalling on buses etc (though I never braved it!), but they are a really practical, back saving buggy for 'walkers'

nutcracker · 21/06/2004 01:22

Oh god, now i want one.

I do use public transport alot BUT i would still have the quest for that wouldn't I.
3 wheeler would get used everyday though.

Will go check ebay now.

Liked the Nipper Suzy

sanssouci · 21/06/2004 01:22

LOL! Barf! I haven't heard that word for awhile...

NomDePlume · 21/06/2004 01:23

I liked the maclaren Techno XT up until DD got to a year old. I find the seats are just far too narrow. DD is far from obese and she looked crammed in there with a coat on. God only knows how 3 and 4 year olds fit in them (allegedly it is suitable from birth to 3 years). Agree the brakes are totally pants.

suzywong · 21/06/2004 01:24

they are so well designed, nutty, down to the pockets in the hood, I bloody love mine

Yorkiegirl · 21/06/2004 01:25

Message withdrawn

nutcracker · 21/06/2004 01:29

Yeah they looked great Suzy. Will now be checking ebay for a bargain one as Dp would not be happy if i spent that much on yet another buggy.

NomDePlume · 21/06/2004 01:32

Hmmm, that nipper doesn't have a swivel front wheel does it suzy ? The Urban detour does and also has the handy pockets in the hood etc !
