DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

sorry what I meant was that you told us about Treviso and I forgot. It's that time of the day, I should go to bed, or just talk in Italian!

Ellbell · 24/05/2007 23:59

Sorry for mentioning it... Not a high point in the Italian rhetorical tradition, eh?

Ellbell · 25/05/2007 00:01

Cross-posted. I meant I was sorry for mentioning il celodurismo... not Treviso, which is not that bad tutto sommato!

Aargh! Anch'io dovrei andare a letto!

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 00:05

No, Treviso is actually a beautiful city. Great food. Have you tried the tramezzini in Piazza dei Signori? (can't remember the nameof the bar, grrrr)

Ellbell · 25/05/2007 00:09

No. Just been a couple of times (once just round and round the zona pedonale!). We'll have to go back! But the climate is not nice there in the summer...

I like it a bit north of there - Bassano del Grappa, Feltre, etc. In fact, I dreamed I was going up Monte Grappa the other day... Most odd!

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 00:12

No, incredibly hot and humid. I had a great time as a child there though. My dad had lots of cousins and they'd say the most amazing and articulate parolaccie...

Ellbell · 25/05/2007 00:24

Have to go... dd2 is awake with a 'bad knee'. Buona notte!

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 08:04

buongiorno. today I am going to start packing! regardless... I have had enough!!

Rosa5 · 25/05/2007 08:20

Happy packin Pippi ...and on the subject of Benneton. When they were building the 'big' 3 storey store here they managed to close the grand canal ( only closed for regattas) for a whole sunday morning whilst they brought in a big crane or something. Talk about costing millions. They had intended on installing this crane in front of the Rialto bridge ( and the commune said ok ! ). Then to avoid accidents they wanted to put a cover over the pavement as not to injure people..This was going to be there for a few months.. But the locals and hoteliers created a stink so the commune had to say no!!!
Franca I would go and see your gp just for a chat . He/she might just be able to help a bit or if not help you find someone who can . Mind you I could never see myself going to my gp here she is not that 'open'.
I know you all have family in Italy but if you ever need anything from Italy that you miss terribly ( can't manage a spritz from the Paradiso perduto though!) I will happily post to you as I know just what itis like...Rosa has had 150 teabags sent over !!!

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 08:28

Oh Rosa that is a sweet thought! we all miss our home food don't we? I always come back with the typical bread from PG and mortadella and millons of things, last time with a whole rack of lamb for DH! one thing I miss as well is Coppa del Nonno!

mediterraneo · 25/05/2007 09:30

UNO SPRITZ PER FAVOREEEEEE!
Sorry I missed all this chatting last night, collapsed in bed with a novel by Veronesi.
I do think I would go a bit mad if I was a casalinga waiting for hubby to come back at the same time every night....I think if you are a casalinga you need to make lots of friends (who can look after your kids...) and take full advantage of your freedom or lack of freedom by doing stuff that pleases you even if it means dragging dc along. Went to lots of exhibitions during the first 3 years with ds, but I can understand that with 2 dc it might be a bit more of a challenge. I live in a fairly bohemian part of London and that helps too.
I am not somebody who can multitask at all ,either kids or work for me at the moment. Having said this I have been asked to do a translation so that will keep me busy throughout the weekend.
My dh too is a man of poche parole, but when I manage to open him up, he is very insightful.

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 09:33

ciao med, did you go to victoria park yesterday? you can say a lot of things about my DH but he is certainly not of poche parole...

is you DH english, sorry I don't remember.

mediterraneo · 25/05/2007 09:37

yes we went to victoria park, it was so hot but very grey. My dh is a bit of a mix of nationalities.....
warm today too, but should get worse in the next few days...

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 11:55

Thanks Rosa, that's a sweet thought! And likewise, obviously . There'd be lots of English things I'd miss if we'd move:
-English salted butter (utterly devine!)

  • plain digestive chocolates
  • all the M&S cakes
  • scones and clutted cream
  • blue cheese
  • and those confezioni of already sliced cheddar to put into sandwiches, so much better than sottilette... Everytime my mum comes here she arrives with (an already cooked - by her) arrosto.
PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 12:10

ahhh ... le nonne....

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 12:10

I've packed 4 boxes of books (the easy bit!) and I am already bored and fed up!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 25/05/2007 12:52

Pippi, there are removal companies who'd do it for you. A friend's just done so, and she said it was the best spen money ever!

Rosa5 · 25/05/2007 13:44

Pippi I do not envy you at all with packing and as for the coppa del nonno can send you an empty one of you want!! I am not fussed on them as we have an excellent gelataio not far from home !. NOw that would be somethinG I would miss if I was not here! I am hoping that dd will like grandmas cooking as she seems to be fed up with mine. Today I did pasta with home made cheese sauce with vege and chicken chopped up in it. She wouldnt touch it but then ate a few cubes of cheese a banana+ 2 apricots and of course pane!! I thought the fussy food period came when they were about 2 obviously not !
For the record my dh is a man of poche parole but when I manage to get him onto my wavelength we don't do too bad. He does think he is of superior intelligence ( on most things!) which makes me cross !!

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 13:53

I know I know franca. DH suggested it and for once me, the stingy one, said yes straight away! But then we changed our mind and in order to save smthng (money running out from every pore ATM) we'll have to do it! super !

I have sp[ent the past 1/2/ an hour on the phone.

good news is, we should be exchanging on tuesday and compliting on the 4th! yuppie.

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 13:56

In the pippi household is pippi herself that believes to be of superior intelligence. DH defines himself as the 'booby price'!

(in fact he is the one of superior intelligence as he leaves me winning all the arguments and then he is always right! )

mediterraneo · 25/05/2007 16:02

Thank you Rosa!
god, I love packing and throwing stuff away, sorting it in boxes, looking at books i had forgotten i had, etc. a bit hot now to be packing though.

PippiLangstrump · 25/05/2007 16:36

med you are welcome to come and do it all for me... you can even 'sgrufolare' in my stuff!

mediterraneo · 25/05/2007 17:30

oops, I am suddenly incredibly busy!
