DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

Pippi... Have you tried Piriton? DD2 had it when she had chicken pox at 9 months or so. It's an antihistamine, so theoretically it deals with the itching, but it also makes them drowsy. Even if dd doesn't seem to be itching too much during the day, it might help to give her a dose of this before bed. You can get it over the counter in the chemist's.

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 14:43

ellbell I got something similar from GP, he said it's an antihistamine and should make her feel drowsy - NO CHANCE!! i'm off to get a bit of horse tranquillizer, that might do the job.

franca that's what I am scared of. that it is a phase more than the illness. well if so I'll have to deal with it once she's recovered. (not looking forward to it though - I like my evenings in peace, the time to read half page of last week newspaper...)

DD has been asleep for an hour with Pippi's dvd on a loop- I swear if I hear this soundtrack once more I'll loose it!

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 14:45

re: job. not do not like it anymore. I only do it for the money.
I wouldn't mind taking a break and then try something else or somewhere else. However, worried it'll be difficult find another job part time etc, also the benefit of this one are great.
Oh my I sound like a responsible parent!!!

franca70 · 26/03/2007 14:58

I really don't know how to help on this one, I had had the impression in the past that you liked your job!. I'd probably take a break, there are so many opportunities in London (aren't there?).
Today I'm hating my life

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 15:22

I used to. Now I don't. It's meaningless and cannot do it properly as I am always rushing home. on the other hand SAHM scares the shit out of me - fear DH will start doing nothing around the house and I am unable to moan - or are you still allowed .

anyway, what has happened to you? who told you off at a gym tots? what's the problem with feeding your child there?
isn't a sunny day over to your side? is it really so impossible to relocate?

I agree motherhood make you feel like we are all back to school (and I was so happy when I went to uni!!).

Anna8888 · 26/03/2007 15:30

Franca - where/how did you find your agriturismo? We're looking for somewhere for this July in Tuscany/Umbria, two families - us, eg one couple, 2 boys (9, 12) and 1 girl (2) and another family of just father and 2 boys (5 and 7)?

Would just love any advice since we seem to have similar taste (Salina).

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 15:42

Anna8888 I am from Umbria, I can ask some friend to recommend some - there are millions of lovely ones!

salina rocks!!

Anna8888 · 26/03/2007 15:47

Pippilangstrump - oh yes PLEASE, that would be fantastic... look forward to news.

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 16:00

I will definitely. give me a couple of days. anything you want or do not want?

franca70 · 26/03/2007 16:56

anna, I've never been there before, but a friend highly recommended to us and is going back again. It's a farm that's been divided into 2 bedrooms flats (I think they are a bit too small for afamily of five) or just bedrooms. It's 20/30 km from the sea, it's near volterra, has a small swimmingpool. can you CAT me? I'd be happy to give you all the details (It scares me doing it on the internet like that, technophobe emoticon)
Have to say though that I'm already missing salina, but I'm trying to convince dh to drive to naples, catch the ferry and spent the last ten days of august in salina... I just love it.
Pippi, I'm just having a bad day. I'm grumpy because I'm late again with the translation, I'm hoping to finish by the end of this week, but dh is going to a conference in Germany (he went to another conference last week), so I won't have much time to work, taking the children one to school, the other to nursery, then pick them up, cook, do the lauindry, buy the food etc. Everything seems to be on my shoulders. Dh is a great help at home, and I realize that his job (permanent etc) certainl;y requires more time than my odd translation. However, he was the one encouraging me to do it, but has he ever offered to stay at home when the children were ill? Exactly. sorry for the rant. I was told off by a member of the staff. And instead of apologising profusely I was a bit rude. So, I'm in a bad mood for having been rude to someone else and also because there are rules rules rules rules. I need a bit of anarchy. sorry sorry for the rant.

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 17:41

oh please do not be sorry to me, rant away, it's usually me who does it no end, especially against DH.
I know I know, we have the same issues - and Dh is helpful too but guess who is at home with DD today? guess who has taken 10 days parental leave since I started in july?? of course I cannot be bothered about my job I am never there!!!

when are you coming to london for a 'conference' week end by yourself and we go out to the theatre and a drink and a good rant?

franca70 · 26/03/2007 17:52

I'd love to pippi. when we are back after the easter holidays I'm planning to go to london by myself maybe for just one night. we have some friends there, hopefully they'll be able to ospitarmi. and we can go out: liberty and food? or the new tate, I've never been!

Anna8888 · 26/03/2007 19:02

Pippilangstrump - yes we'd like somewhere to swim (pool / beach) and towards the more comfortable end of the scale.

Franca - yes, I'll try and CAT you (never done that before).

Thanks SO much.

franca70 · 26/03/2007 20:49

Med are you back?

franca70 · 26/03/2007 20:50

anna, not sure whther the agriturismo is close to the more comfortable end of the scale. It looks lovely, but def not de luxe

no, I will try! I remember woman in red though

mediterraneo · 26/03/2007 21:15

Sono tornata. ahhh, I missed my home & ds, but loved being away. Went to restaurants and bars basically, experienced the night life, looked at the beautiful people, walked around La butte aux cailles area which is where we stayed, did more bars, even danced a bit. I felt young, I did miss my ds terribly though. DH is away now for work for a while, I am in charge. Dh is actually quite helpful at home, doesn't do housework really, but great at playing with ds, making stories up, etc. No translations in the pipeline so will concentrate on ds.

franca70 · 26/03/2007 21:18

sounds excellent med! glad you had a great time. (how often did you ring ds ?)

mediterraneo · 26/03/2007 22:16

only once and he was too busy playing with his little friend!

PippiLangstrump · 26/03/2007 22:28

after 1 and 1/2 hour of bed time routine pippi comes back like a true winner!!! franca thanks I've done it like you said it and it worked. I had to read 1 million books but it was well worth it. not much evening left but at least I've got my bed!!

new tate? def. haven't been in a while TBH - shame!!

franca70 · 26/03/2007 23:19

well done pippi! as she feels better you'll be able to reduce the number of books

PippiLangstrump · 27/03/2007 21:11

only one book!!!! pippi's book though... I start to hate her now! and she was happy to go to bed when I told her I was going to read to her! easier than I though.
i do have the pefect child!!!

franca70 · 27/03/2007 21:55

well done pippi! .

mediterraneo · 27/03/2007 22:47

ohhhh, i was so nasty to my little ds today, I shouted at him for not wanting to eat his bloody lamb steak, and he lookeds scared. I apologised to him profusely. He genuinely looked scared of me. I never insist when he doesn't want to eat cause he eats very well most of the time, but today it all became very stressfull. And it was an organic lamb steak, absolutely delicious. Che stronza.
