DS is sick, what would a good Italian mum cook for him? First time he is properly sick, I need to cook him something, even if he might not eat it...

califrau one of DH's best friend lives in san francisco and when he came to our wedding in italy he bought 100 euro of parmigiano back home. very clever I guess.

ciao franca, I know it's been ages. sorry. so busy all the time. we are looking for a house. we have decided we are staying in london. we actually did see one that we loved, offer the asking price and the bitch decided that it is woth more. WTF???!!!!
DH is annoyed big time as he is very fair and doesn't like this bartering around. so don't know what we'll do.

franca70 · 08/03/2007 22:59

I didn't know you were looking for a new house pippi. whereabout? ooooooh london... are you still working?

PippiLangstrump · 08/03/2007 23:00

ah Franca I meant to ask you about this translating business. I don't think I'll be any good at it, sometimes I feel my italian is 'penoso'. But if I have to become a SAHM I will need to do something. Could you tell me how to go about it please?

(in giorno, quando avro' tempo di leggere, ti chiedero' di consigliarmi dei libri da leggere, so che hai buoni gusti)

I am I am but I hate it at the moment. It is pointless as we are so understaffed and crappily managed, the job is awful! also I am hardly there as DD has been down with viral flu on and off for the past two months. it's good in a way but it leaves you quite frustrated as I am not really productive IYSWIM. we are planning to try (not much trying needed normally ) for another baby in June so I might have to stop for a while. will see.

after a few trip in the remote countryside (DH idea) we have settled for Barnet (my idea and compromise) which is still london, although zone 5, but nice enough with good schools and lots of parks etc. so we are all happy again and no rows either.

you?

PippiLangstrump · 08/03/2007 23:13

Califrau do you want me to send you some stuff? I'll disguise them.

best friend's mother's coming tomorrow from perugia and she's bringing me a loaf of special bread. it might sound crazy but it's unique as it's made with no salt... the best to go with prosciutto!!!

Lol at califrau who deosn't want to spoil her taste buds too much !
pippi, re translation: I'm doing this translation only because a friend, in Italy, passed it to me... If I decided to try and do this more regularly I'd rather work with english companies... I'm actually thinking about doing an ma in literary translation here in exeter. I'm pretty sure there is one I believe at the university of london (try and google how to become a translator in the uk)... Thing is that I'm not really sure aboout this working from home thing, because I'm totally disorganised and guess what, as much as dh helps, I'm the one who doesn't work when the children are ill, I'm the one taking them to the gym etc. So I'm always in ritardo. and try to squeeze everything in 6 hours and a half (ds finishes school at 3.30). translating, taking care of the house, go out buy food, cook, mning . I'm not very good.
If I was living in London now, I'd really consider trying to become a librarian because it's something I've always thought I'd like to do.

mediterraneo · 09/03/2007 12:33

Mumsnetting is so time-consuming isn't it? Still no period, but strong menstrual cramps, so I guess it's on its way. Still not sure what happened, if it was all in my mind, or if I am having a very early miscarriage. Boh, non importa. Going to Brighton for the weekend so I am going to have fun whatever happens!
300/350? Tu dove stai ora Pippi?

franca70 · 09/03/2007 14:19

Oh med! ti mando un abbraccio... have a great weekend in brighton (never been there myself).
I haven't properly looked into the master yet, I'm pretty sure it can be done part time, in two years. Yes, it is likely to be very hard. But I could get a bit more organized... (and ask dh to be a bit more flexible too)

mediterraneo · 09/03/2007 15:09

by being organized you mean.....giving up mumsnet...

lol!!! how is it today on the other side of the world?

PippiLangstrump · 09/03/2007 19:05

ciao a tutte.
mediterraneo Barnet is def suburban you're right and if it was for ne I'd stay more central. the problem is to be able to afford a bigger place (with a spare room for mother dear to come and give me a break!!) with decent schools. also I'd rather suburban that the stick my DH wanted us to relocate to: it would have been the death of me.
I'm in stanford hill at the moment. you?
PS: they've accepted the offer!!! yuppie!!!!

My dream would be to have a bookshop/mini library(independent of course) with a cafe inside which would be very very very child friendly (with play area for kids and pram parking etc) so that the mum can relax and read and chat. maybe one day. (dreams...)

Re translations. I am not organised at all and I should probably wait till DD goes to school at least maybe... dunno.
