Only two days to go until the start of the best sporting event in the World! Don't know how I'm going to cope with the trials and tribulations of the England team alongside BB3. Anyone else getting excited? Would love to know how well you think England / Ireland are going to do and who you think is going to win.

Sorry, but I'm a huge footie fan!

Ireland - so bloody unlucky. Really , really deserved to win that!

JJ · 16/06/2002 16:46

Tinker, thanks for the info. The game was heartbreaking, I agree.

leander · 20/06/2002 13:56

So tomorrow is the make or break day.
Personally i think we can do it.Brazil haven't impressed me at all they've been quite lucky so far and haven,t really played any quality teams.
England have a full squad to choose from and thankfully Owen,Scholes and Hargreaves have been declared fit.
so COME ON ENGLANDmake my day.

Fionn · 20/06/2002 18:08

Heard New Order's World in Motion on the radio and started to feel really nervous. If we can beat Brazil, I think we can do it, and as you say leander, they don't look unbeatable.

leander · 20/06/2002 18:16

Dont you think that is the best football song ever ! It really gets you in the mood

Fionn · 20/06/2002 18:27

well, I also love Three Lions, which I think is even more rousing. Those two leave all the other football songs way behind though. I think John Barnes' rap isn't bad!

Marina · 20/06/2002 18:34

Don't suppose we know who the ref is going to be? Too much to hope that it might be the very fair and very energetic bald Italian guy?
I will be dropping ds off at nursery with my earphones in tomorrow morning, so no matter what cute new utterance he comes up with, I'll be oblivious. I think we can do it too but am feeling very jittery...
Does anyone else think Perugia were rotten to sack Anh? He was playing for his national team, after all. In his boots I might have preferred not to return to Italy next season, but I think the way he was sacked was really mean-spirited.

leander · 20/06/2002 18:40

Fionn
did you hear his rap for the Anfield rap? it was awful.
marina
Dont you think that was typical the Italian footballers are a bunch of babies.

Tinker · 20/06/2002 18:51

Marina - it's not Collina. It's a Mexcican guy with a bit of a reputation for red and yellow cards.

To be fair (ish) to Perugia, I think they were going to let him go anyway. But their comments about him insulting Italian football! Hmmm - bad losers springs to mind!

Janus · 20/06/2002 19:48

Have you heard Italy are now considering sueing FIFA for incorrect referring of their game? Do you think we could backdate a claim for Maradonna's handball??!! The Italians are such bad losers.
Our 23 month old daughter now shouts 'Come on England' at the TV when football is on (no matter who is playing!) and can sing along to 'The Great Escape' tune (yes, I know it's not exactly difficult words!!).
I am seriously considering not watching tommorow as am so nervous for them, I don't think my ticker could stand it! But ... C'MON ENGLAND.

Bozza · 20/06/2002 22:50

DH has already moved DS's high chair into the living room so he can watch football and eat breakfast at the same time - lucky little boy. Unfortunately I suppose it'll be me trailing back and forth with the 5 or so courses DS seems to think he requires for brekky.

SofiaAmes · 20/06/2002 23:16

ok, enough with the insulting italians...at least they don't beat up everyone in sight when they lose, like some other more anglo countries....

SofiaAmes · 20/06/2002 23:18

besides i thought they let him go because he made rude comments about the italians' ability to play football...not a smart move when your salary is paid by italians.

Tinker · 20/06/2002 23:34

Really Sofia? Italian football has a lot of problems with violence.

Anyway, back to World Cup - getting nervous already!!!! Just don't want to go out yet!!!

JJ · 21/06/2002 00:16

My poor neglected son won't get taken to nursery until after the game. I'm doubly nervous as the US game is at 12:30pm.

susanmt · 21/06/2002 00:22

CCCCCCCCCCOOOOMEEEEEEEE ONNNNNNNN BRRAZIIIIIIIIIIILLLL !!

Shouted the suicidal scot!!

WideWebWitch · 21/06/2002 08:19

Can't bear this match! Tense or what?

Enid · 21/06/2002 08:33

ouch David Seaman - come ON INGERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!

GRMUM · 21/06/2002 08:40

Lots of positive waves for England are coming out of this house in Greece.School hols have started so I've got all my kids' friends around watching the match.I can't bear the suspense so I'm messing around on mumsnet instead!!!!

Oh no they've just scored again - depression setting in........

monkey · 21/06/2002 09:25

oh, well.

I can't believe it. and gotta wait hours before I can respectably drown my sorrows.

WideWebWitch · 21/06/2002 09:25

Devastating

Enid · 21/06/2002 09:28

Gutted, still better to go out against Brazil than any of the other teams left.

Enid · 21/06/2002 09:30

Now we've just got to hope Germany beat USA - what are the Americans doing in the World Cup anyway??? - sorry, Sofiames

JJ · 21/06/2002 09:37

Let's hope we're playing better than England just did. Go USA!

SofiaAmes · 21/06/2002 09:49

...playing some pretty solid football....go usa!!! (it's so much fun being a mutt and getting to root for half the teams)
