Only two days to go until the start of the best sporting event in the World! Don't know how I'm going to cope with the trials and tribulations of the England team alongside BB3. Anyone else getting excited? Would love to know how well you think England / Ireland are going to do and who you think is going to win.

Sorry, but I'm a huge footie fan!

Well done to the boys but i'm more made up that the Argies are OUT.
Once again Rio Ferdinand was excellent!

WideWebWitch · 12/06/2002 09:36

4yo ds has just come up to tell me that England are through and that they play Sweden on Saturday. And that Argentina are out! Surprised to find I'm quite pleased

WideWebWitch · 12/06/2002 09:42

Or is it Denmark? Anyway, good news.

leander · 12/06/2002 10:17

Denmark

soothepoo · 12/06/2002 13:01

Isn't it funny how schools and employers will go out of their way to accommodate those who want to watch a football match, but if you need time off because your child is sick, then it's a different story.....
Sorry, I can't bear football at any time, but particularly World/European/Pan-galactic Cup hysteria. I suppose I especially can't bear the fact that dd managed to stay asleep in her buggy last Friday afternoon with all the car horns and hooters and general brou-ha-ha going on in town, but the very SECOND I step into Laura Ashley to do some serious browsing she wakes up and starts crying!!

PamT · 12/06/2002 13:05

Suethepoo - glad I'm not the only anti-football mum on the site - I feel like it when I read most of the messages!

starmoon · 12/06/2002 13:05

Cant't wait until the game on Saturday. Come on
England!!!! Bit of a dilemma though as I was going shopping, my hubbie was looking after our little one. Becks is getting lovelier by the minute.

Dizzymummy · 12/06/2002 13:11

Up until the uproar over Roy Keane being booted out of the Irish team - I had absolutely no interest. Thrilled to bits they have done so well.

Rhubarb · 12/06/2002 14:42

Suethepoo - I like that!

Well big of a boring game but at least England are still in there and am all up for Saturday against Denmark - yippee! Trouble is where do I find a pub that will let dd join in? Most of the major pubs in town don't let children in which is a real pain, especially when you want to celebrate with your mates and don't want to miss out on the atmosphere - I do think landlords could be a bit more child-friendly at a time like this.

Queenie - I love you!

honeybunny · 12/06/2002 20:15

PamT- me too! Loathe it and then some. Forced to listen to it for b'fast this morning as dh is off for a few days. Arghhh!!!! (football, that is not dh being home!)

manna · 12/06/2002 22:00

I've just told the vicar (having supper to discuss ds's christening) that I think Brazils defence is a bit weak, and Nicky Butt was a real let down this morning........!

Do you think world cup fever has gone to my head???

Jackiewhit · 13/06/2002 10:53

Leander

Yep, now you come to mention it - Becks hairdo is rather Beppe La Phewish - it also reminds me of that Gremlin (not Gismo, the nasty one).

Can't believe we're through to the Quarter finals - Denmark will be tough though, I reckon it will go to the dreaded penalties (who will be the scapegoat this year?)

Joe1 · 13/06/2002 16:18

We have a wedding on Saturday at 3.00pm, wonder how many people will be rushing to get there on time, including the groom.

Fionn · 14/06/2002 22:07

What a weekend coming up...almost don't dare to hope for both England and Ireland. Will be playing my Three Lions CD very loudly tomorrow morning, it worked against Argentina!

leander · 15/06/2002 09:46

Can't wait for 12-30 Ds's England kit is ready so is mine + Dh's.Bring on the Danes.

glitterbabe · 15/06/2002 11:13

I'm ready now, I'm wearing my 6 year old ds England top, he has another one of his own, and me and the girls are off down the pub to watch the match. We are ready to go flag mad. COME ON INGERLAND.

Queenie · 15/06/2002 14:58

3-0 - do I have to say more? What a great game!

Twink · 15/06/2002 15:09

Stunning !

Even though it was punctuated by dd 'Is that David Beckham, is that him, is that one him ?' for most of the game. Ah bless her little cottons..

glitterbabe · 15/06/2002 17:54

SOOOOO HAPPPPY!!!!

Tinker · 15/06/2002 18:01

Strange experience to watch an England match and feel relaxed. Great though, Just hope Ireland can manage something similar tomorrow.

jodee · 15/06/2002 18:05

Now to think of a plan to get out of work on Friday morning ...

leander · 15/06/2002 19:10

Well done to England what a great first half , the second half wasn't too great though.A very big congrats to my Liverpool boys and of course Rio but his goal was definately an oggie!!

JJ · 15/06/2002 20:26

We're loving football at the moment. My husband has looked forward to sharing the excitement of the World Cup with my son for 4 years now (my son is 4 1/2 years old). And the win today was so thrilling!

Would anyone know what radio station will be broadcasting the US/Mexico match on Monday? We're Americans (living in England and firmly England fans... assuming the twain shall never meet) and are hoping that we'll progress. I've got to take aforementioned 4 1/2 year old to the hospital for the day on Monday and we'd love to hear the match on the way.

Tinker · 15/06/2002 21:19

JJ - Radio 5Live should broadcast it, I think. MW 909.

SofiaAmes · 15/06/2002 22:46

The world cup is great. Especially when england are playing! I went to ikea and despite it being a sat. afternoon, it was deserted!!!!! I hope england makes it all the way to the top....I will get so much done!
