Only two days to go until the start of the best sporting event in the World! Don't know how I'm going to cope with the trials and tribulations of the England team alongside BB3. Anyone else getting excited? Would love to know how well you think England / Ireland are going to do and who you think is going to win.

Sorry, but I'm a huge footie fan!

Yes !what a result they were brilliant my m.o.m was ferdinand

jessi · 07/06/2002 14:50

What a stressfull couple of hours! Seriously couldn't watch the last couple of minutes, it was agony! Ds also decided to forgo his nap for the first half which added to the stress as he likes to stand in front of the tv if I'm watching anything! Luckily he fell asleep so I could watch in peace! I also thought ferdinand was outstanding, but they ALL played so well. Yipeee!

Joe1 · 07/06/2002 15:28

About time our boys actually looked like they wanted to win, now they have to keep it up.

amymum · 07/06/2002 15:59

What a fantastic result - the World Cup is most certainly alive and very interesting now! I actually cried when we scored, as I think Becks was too! I just feel so good for him, as well as the rest of the team. Lucky we had Collina as ref - he knew from the off the kind of tactics the Argies would employ and totally called them on it. I've got an England flag flying out my bedroom window, and there have been loads of people beeping as they drive past this afternoon. Wow, what a day!

Another thing - how are your kids reacting to the World Cup? Dd is only 15 months, and behave brilliantly when we watched the game on Sunday. She was asleep throughout the match today. However, she has taken a liking to the national anthems, standing in front of the television laughing & dancing! She also loved the Nigerian guy's goal celebration this morning!

It's actually not enjoyable to watch is it? But, fan bloody tastic though!!!

WideWebWitch · 07/06/2002 16:43

Amymum, ds (4years 7mo) loves football and The World Cup. He's thrilled that England won, has just watched a replay of the entire match and is playing with dp on Playstation as England vs Argentina as I type!

Azzie · 07/06/2002 19:11

Ds (4 3/4) and I sat and watched England vd Argentina today and he thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm obviously going to have to brush up on my knowledge of the rules, though!

sylvev · 07/06/2002 21:50

Excellent result!! Tense time though, ds (7) was getting more and more excited, wriggly and talkative as the minutes SLOWLY ticked by. I was watching the final moments from behind a cushion on the floor!!! Well done lads!

thumper · 07/06/2002 21:51

Had to get out of the office after 20 mins of the match today, couldnt stand watching it on my own, having been deserted by all the chaps going to 'corporate do's. Yeah right. Streets deserted, but once I got to John Lewis it was packed, full of women of course, but also lots of men with beards. Honest. Mmmm. Don't men with beards like football? DH says maybe they are boycotting it cos it's sponsored by Gillette!

Twink · 07/06/2002 22:16

Tinker, I never thought I could say this in public but Michael O was awesome, but 'my' midfield of Beckham, Scholes, Butt and Veron (!! why else was he substituted !) were stunning.

Fortunately dd had her nursery trip today so was unable to see her parents (OK, her mother, dh was quietly watching..) leaping around the room / hopping on one leg /screaming Oh G* just tackle For C*ts sake.

Blood pressure gradually reducing as blood alcohol count increasing !

Wahey, roll on Wednesday !!

Tinker · 07/06/2002 23:04

Twink, was thinking similar thoughts about how well the Man U lot were playing (except Veron, thankfully)

jasper · 08/06/2002 00:06

Despite hating football I am another Scott who is definately supporting England and am ashamed of those among my fellow scots who are actively not supporting england!
Did anyone notice Ben Eltons mistake at the Queen's party? Asked Scots to support England because "we supported your weird hurling ladies"....Ben, it's CURLING you berk!

leander · 08/06/2002 00:07

Nice one Jasper.

Queenie · 08/06/2002 14:40

DH is a scot and won't support England - I hate football but am English. Yesterday's game was brilliant, even I have to admit to getting excited and DH relunctantly had to admit it was a good game. The Scots v English thing really makes my blood boil and I remind him that his dd is english. Best of luck to England I say for the tournament and I am defintely coming round to being a fan.

Rhubarb · 11/06/2002 14:45

My b-i-l was in Scotland for the England v Argentina match and he said all the cheers were for Argentina, it really put a damper on his holiday as he felt he couldn't really get into the mood or celebrate properly. And he is Irish!

Well done Ireland by the way, 2-0 to Saudi Arabia, they are well in there! BEST OF IRISH LUCK TO YOU!!!!

leander · 11/06/2002 14:45

Massive congratulations to Ireland didn't they do well. so much for that other fella ROY WHO!!!

PamT · 11/06/2002 16:38

Our house is a football free zone, even my dh and 2 ds aren't into it. Wish the tv people would do a dedicated football/sport channel though instead of messing up my normal viewing.

I do usually know the score when England are playing by the cheers and "Ingerla-and" chanting outside or coming from neighbours' houses/the local pub etc. Don't they realise that not everyone wants to listen to their hero worship and that the players can't really hear their words of encouragement nor can the ref hear their words of advice!

Call me a killjoy but I hate it!

Queenie · 11/06/2002 16:45

Absolutely fantastic that Ireland did so well today. Now let's hope England have a result tomorrow. Have been giving dh much ear nipping (as he calls it) over his lack of sportsmanship towards England - don't worry he'll be a fan soon enough if he values his sanity. To celebrate my patriotism at this time I took loads of pictures of dd at our road's jubliee party - e.g waving union jack flag x 2, wearing england hat, holding red and white baloons, etc which I will send up to her lovely scottish rellies, and especially her grandad, for father's day. By hook or my crook there will be a Union Jack or an England flag in his house. My dh is quietly amused at my nastiness.

jodee · 11/06/2002 18:55

PamT - if you insist - you're a killjoy

Enid · 11/06/2002 20:33

Oh, ok, Pam, you are a killjoy.

Jackiewhit · 11/06/2002 21:26

COME ON INGER-LAND. COME ON IRELAND.

Anyone who purposefully avoids watching the World Cup really misses out on a special time.

When we get through to the next round, whether you love or loath football, the excitement of watching the teams play (Ireland and England) - and the will they, won't they, ohhhhh so close factor is an emotion that is quite unique.

Perhaps the doubters out there should go to their local pub and watch a game, I am sure that they will not avoid being drawn into watching this compelling tournament.

P.S. JUST LOVE BECKS NEW HAIRDO.

Willow2 · 11/06/2002 23:32

Can't wait for the game. Love the atmosphere that pervades the whole country when England does well - even my mum gets excited. Just praying that the team does as well tomorrow as my beloved Gunners have done this season.
Come On England!

Tinker · 11/06/2002 23:37

Very impressed with my daughter's school, which is opening tomorrow at 8.15 just so parents can dump (I mean, leave) the kids and get home for the 2nd half. They are having a tv in the hall so the kids can watch. Now, that's civilised.

leander · 12/06/2002 07:52

Jackiewhit
dont you think he looks like Pepe Le Pooh?
