because breadgirl from what I've seen of US beauty pageant mothers they use exactly the same "I do it because they enjoy it" that some mogeller mums use

and also I think its funny in a 'kick the dog' sort of way

and I'm sure that even mogellers can see the relevance, however tenuous it might be ..

oh I'm getting bored now

CountessDracula · 25/01/2007 19:02

I didn't know anything about the moggling bit, have never had any contact with the mogglers until the last couple of days.

Suffice to say I now have a very poor opinion of it! After one comment that if you really ought to have a sense of humour if you indulge in pursuits that are commonly seen as rather ludicrous, lots of toys were thrown out of prams and lips wobbled.

A moggling mum called me a peni head earlier! (what's with the btw, is there something wrong with the word penis?) A bit feeble to resort to name calling really.

I shall have no more to do with these textspeaky, insulting people.

hercules1 · 25/01/2007 19:02

I think it would help if the mogglers parents posted more widespreadly on mumsnet. Ignorance rarely lasts once met (or something like that).

bosscat · 25/01/2007 19:02

yes of course you all don't behave that way but the problem is when you have such a bad example as my cousin and you actually sit there and see her feeding her child weightwatchers spaghetti bolognaise you can't help but have an inherent feeling that this is just wrong.

the problem as I see it is that whichever way you spin it and believe me my cousin has spun it many ways, it is all about the way a child looks. Its instilling values in a child that some of us think are abhorrent. To be judged for the way you look, rejected for the way you look, paid for the way you look. Of all the values you choose why would this be one to aim for?

and I really can't see what's in it for the child? My cousin has this idea its going to stand him in good stead for the future? How? He isn't socialising with other children, he isn't allowed to bounce on a bouncy castle in case he falls off and bruises himself, it isn't adding anything of educational value. No-one knows what he is going to look like when he's 18. How on earth is it helping him?

Agree with you totally bosskat. It goes against the grain for me to bring my kids up thinking that how they look etc is what matters.

cindyl · 25/01/2007 19:42

countess no one cares about wot you got to say any more your boring, and yes i did call you a PENIS HEAD you happy now

2ManyPimms · 25/01/2007 19:44

Oddly enough, the rest of the moggler mums on this board would agree with you hercs.

housemum · 25/01/2007 19:46

Please simmer! This started as a bit of a friendly banter between different camps, we seem to be pulling out the WMD now!

FYI I'm a moggelling mum - I do have a brain (4 A-levels, professional qualification, now chosen to be a housewife). Modelling is a bit of fun - we treat it as an excuse to have a day in London - usually taking a trip to a museum or general sightseeing to play down the fact that we've gone there for a casting and make the trip more important. I see no reason to stress a 3-year-old with thoughts of failure. Castings are just a day out with different people - she has always enjoyed herself and had fun. I am not a typical model mum - but nor is anyone else; there is no such thing! We are all a varied bunch, who post on one particular thread to keep up with what jobs/castings are going on. Some of us venture onto other threads, some don't.

Heigh-ho, rant over - time to do a bedtime story.

Keep it happy on here!

cindyl · 25/01/2007 19:49

i dont think that it matters how your child looks if you look in junior mag those children are naturally beautiful they aint all make up and things is that what you people think make up is kept to a minimal

housemum · 25/01/2007 19:49

Oh yes, I totally agree that mums who feed kids WeightWatchers crap and don't let them play are a bit loopy! DD eats a good amount of food, if they don't like her size or shape well that's their loss - she's a healthy kid. She has had bumps and bruises like any other - if they like a child that much they'll always edit them out!! If I thought I had to keep her in a glass cage I wouldn't put her in for it. Likewise, when she starts school if I think it's too much for her she will stop - end of story.

2ManyPimms · 25/01/2007 19:51

Threads like this always descend into chaos.

this is why everyone thinks moggellers are bonkers when these threads turn into a bitchfest. My ds dabbles a little, but it is always up to him if he goes (he is 6) we do not do castings, if a company see his polaroid and book him, and it's not in school time, and he wants to go, then we do. I would not pay anyone for the privilege of taking his photo or representing him, and that's it. We are not all stupid, not all of us force our kids to go, and most of us look on it as a bit of fun. Now, lets talk about something less controversial, like bottle feeding or early weaning....
