How do you pronounce your dd1's name Expat. It is like Ellie?

eggnog · 18/12/2006 13:19

moses, nobody was having it. good thing as qwyneth paltrow called her son moses 2 weeks later and everyone would have thought i copied her. was harry in the end.

wheelsonthebus · 18/12/2006 13:19

i liked summer or willow or savannah but bottled it on all three counts

hannahsaunt · 18/12/2006 13:41

I wanted Patrick for both boys (not at the same time!) but dh vetoed on both occasions. He wanted Dylan and I wanted Dillon so that got thrown out too. Both of us wanted Kate but good friends called their dd that so it's out as is Daisy which another set of good friends have just called their dd.

Still want Xanthe if we ever have a girl but can't see it happening either...

belgo · 18/12/2006 13:44

Wheelsonthebus - love Willow, both dh and I agreed on Willow before I became pregnant with DD2, but for some reason we forgot that we'd both chosen it, and dd2 ended up with a name that's completely different.

KathyMCMLXXII · 18/12/2006 13:49

I wanted to call ds Nelson (because no-one would have known whether it was after Admiral Nelson or Nelson Mandela) - didn't bottle it, but dh was having none of it.

I would like a girl called Phyllis but I don;t think I'm ever going to be allowed that one either.

Monkeytrousers · 18/12/2006 13:50

Jory, Luca,

Settled for Willian James instead

Monkeytrousers · 18/12/2006 13:51

But thinking of Tricksy for a girl after a long dead gran - maybe just a nickname though..

Monkeytrousers · 18/12/2006 13:52

william

SHHHHsantaiscoming · 18/12/2006 14:01

We liked Meadow for a girl and hadn't settled on a name for dd until minutes after I had given birth...

The mw's turned and asked her name..dh replied "Freya". BTW she also suits to a tee..!!

Still like meadow.

Now expecting a ds..not one name have we agreed on....

KateF · 18/12/2006 14:02

Fimboids-like Hayley but without the H!

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 18/12/2006 14:04

My ds should have been a Harvey, and I wish I'd stuck to my guns, he's such a Harvey!

I never really liked any girls names so I always feel a bit sad that both dd's didn't get a fantastic lovely unusual name.

DD1 was inadvertantly named by one of the doctors doing my cs! She's about to turn 5 and I'm just starting to get used to ca\lling her it!

I regret not calling names I wanted because I listened to other people.

StrawberrySnowflakes · 18/12/2006 14:07

we liked harvey for a boy but then that advert kept coming on the box about the dog called harvey who had worms put us of..and i liked Fletch..dp said it as a joke, but i still like it as do i like bailey for a boy(cos i like the drink)..maybe i should go and sit with the 'our chardonaaaay' crowd

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 14:15

That's exactly how it's pronounced, Kate!

She suits her name so well.

onzephyrstdayofchristmas · 18/12/2006 14:25

lol ss - I'll come and sit next to you them!! I love the name Bailey as well... there was a guy called Bailey on a prgramme I used to watch when I was at school... part of five or something?

I also wanted to call ds Kalen. It was a name I thought of years ago and had never ever heard of it ... then my mum told me her hairdressers named her ds Kalen and dp point blank refused it!

MrsArchieTheInventor · 18/12/2006 14:27

Octavia and Sebastian. Love the names but could never give them to my children. People would think I had ideas above my station, as in "who does she think she is giving her kiddies posh names? Lady muck?"

I'm Yorkshire working class and as such must stick to traditional family names for frear of bringing down the good reputation of the family!

bettythebauble · 18/12/2006 14:31

I liked Willow for a girl, but dh vetod it after guessing that I was theming things around Buffy the vampire slayer (Cordelia was also on my list )
.
On the 'boy' list my fave was 'Christmas' (Kit for short) but the midwife vetod that, and luckily for dd she was a girl.
(She was born on Christmas Day, if that makes it any less weird)

DeckthehallswithboughsofhollyL · 18/12/2006 14:37

DD was going to be Michelle to begin with but Dh has an aunt called Michelle, then she was going to be Zoe and again DH put his foot down (although he was up for it to begin with). I decided on Natalie in the end and DH didn't get a say because he didn't know she was a girl and we agreed he could choose the name if she were a boy (would've been Jake) and I could if she was a girl.

I love her name even now and am pleased DH vetoed Michelle and Zoe!

StrawberrySnowflakes · 18/12/2006 14:37

yeah bailey from party of five, wasnt jack from lost in that?..with long flowy locks?

DINOsaurmummykissingsantaclaus · 18/12/2006 14:38

hoxtonchick - really? do they live in Hackney too? I hear both names quite a lot round and about.

EniDeepMidwinter · 18/12/2006 14:39

If I had known I would have three daughters I would love to have given them middle names: Malvolia, Edwina and Velvet (from National Velvet one of my fave books)

marialuisa · 18/12/2006 14:43

DH has one of the names mentioned on here, one of the more "pretentious" ones (or a dog's name, depending on your point of view) and was very clear that any sons he produced would have unremarkable names (William, John etc.)

I wanted to call DD Leila but was talked out of it because of people screeching "lay---la" . Wish I'd stuck to my guns. DD's name (chosen by DH)is rather Eurotrash.

MerryBiglipsmas · 18/12/2006 14:46

ive always settled for my DD's name - Levina...i had no other names at all.

MrsSpoon · 18/12/2006 14:51

My mad pregnancy hormone names were Axel for a boy and Rio for a girl.

serenitynightholynight · 18/12/2006 14:57

Options for DD which Dh veto'd were Paraskevie (after dh's cousin, Skevie) - too Greek according to DH, and Xanthe.

I wanted to call DS2 Angel (was backed up by FIL) but once again Dh pointed out that as we live in the UK, it would probably lead to him being beaten up in the playground, so that went too as did actually using the Greek spellings of their names.
