I would always encourage someone to get reassessed if they're not better. Things can change in a few days.

But honestly antibiotics are not indicated in the vast majority of infections. 90% of ear infections are viral, sore throats, cough gone on for weeks? Because it's viral, not because the antibiotics are not working! You can easily cough for six weeks after a viral bronchitis and that is normal!

We're going to lose our most precious resource because people are demanding antibiotics for everything when what they need us decent painkillers, rest and TIME!

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 11:55

carolina thats awful :( can you go round a friends house? :(

We've got ooh appointment here in a bit, then going to ils. Ah well if there's no magic cure he'll just be ill over xmas i guess. It happens.

QueenOfNewYorkLyndie · 20/12/2014 12:10

That was not directed at anyone in particular btw and if a gp tells you you need antibiotics you probably need them!

But we have no magic for making people better and no I can't make sure you're better for your Xmas party or whatever I just can't!

Always get reassessed though if you're not sure or any worse Smile

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 12:10

Glad you are getting Him seen Madame. Have a good time at your ils.
Carol...do you want to talk about it? I'm So sorry love x

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 12:13

I think ds2s is viral...as is mums. I've just been and got her some honey and blackcurrant squash :)
Thing is...Xmas is just another day and that means that - some years - you will be ill
Law of averages and all that.
I am sure drs must get very hacked off with people coming in on Xmas week and demanding ABs "because it's Xmas"!!

QueenOfNewYorkLyndie · 20/12/2014 12:23

I think when you explain it Badders they get it and especially if you offer decent alternatives like throat spray, cough suppressant or really decent painkillers they are ok. But we've been raised to believe that green snot and green sputum = bacteria which = antibiotics.

Rant over. GrinGrin

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 13:26

He was screaming the place down and doc said ears and throat both red. Gave him abs no prob. Phew.

CarolSinger200 · 20/12/2014 13:26

I'm back. Thanks for your comments.

Basically, plans over splitting time between both parents as regards my grandson have changed and my D-I-L is now therefore going to her Dad's on Xmas Eve. I was originally going to her Christmas morning until around 2pm when DS would collect grandson. That's all changed now thanks to DS who is taking grandson to his gf's family.

My sister, believing I was sorted, is spending the day with her eldest son and grandkids. Her youngest son is going to his in-laws for the day. Sis has invited me to dinner at hers on Boxing Day.

My aunt and uncle are away for Christmas and friends already have their plans sorted.

HO HO HO !

CarolSinger200 · 20/12/2014 13:27

That's good news Madame Smile

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 20/12/2014 13:32

OMFG! Athos slapping Rochefort! Hahahahahaaaaaaa, God I love him!!!!Xmas Grin

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 13:33

Thats good Madame. Poor mite.
Carol...well, you can come to me if you like? :)

IntheBleakMiladyBeeeWinter · 20/12/2014 13:34

Pleased you got him seen Madame and for *Lyndie>. I wouldn't want your job ever in run up to Christmas. Just put of interest how do you know difference between virus and something needing antibiotics? Is it of it's infected / red / swollen?

Oh Carolina that is utterly shit for you. So you won't now see GS because of DS when ExDIL was being cooperative?

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 13:34

Rochefort is looking like a right bastard...
Athos will sort him out.

IntheBleakMiladyBeeeWinter · 20/12/2014 13:35

FFS hopefully you can understand that despite typos. FMFF

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 13:40

Mrsb...I love your humane disposal techniques :)
I tend to assume no infection unless temp or raised pulse rate? But I am sure lyndie and Comtesse will put you right x

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 13:48

:( carolina. That is so shite. Must be so much more difficult to arrange stuff with you and ds both separated from your partners. Id say come to me, I really would. But my little house is going to be jammers and then we're going to friends after lunch. Glad you have plans for boxing day

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 13:50

That job ad looks amazeballs. But a) its in london and b) I dont have a time machine to go back 15 years and forge a different career path. Oh well.

Badvocinapeartree · 20/12/2014 13:52

Madame...yes! Just what I was thinking! :( sigh...
Why are all the Great opportunities in London? I wish I didn't live in the arse end of nowhere :(

GoTellItToTheMavis · 20/12/2014 13:58

Anne or Drink should do that job. They're in London and are really organised.

It's the least they could do.

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 14:11

It does piss me off that all the good jobs are in london. Though a lot of the beeb is in manchester (?) now isnt it? That doesnt help me either though but at least its something.

MadamedeChevreuse · 20/12/2014 14:16

sparks how are you feeling? Any gossip from last night?

Nearly at ils now. Approaching obs land

TheSwedishChristmasMeatball · 20/12/2014 14:18

Afternoon Wenches Smile

I can't wait for S2!! I've watched that new trailer over and over, Athos hitting Rochefort and then that snarky line and a little smirk! I'm actually sitting her whooping! Xmas Grin Wench mode on full alert!!! Xmas Grin

Been shopping food for Christmas, (the only traditional I bought was pickled herring and smoked Salmon), wine and som chocolateflavoured Glögg.

Part from that I have a headache and blobpains in my back but nothing a few Ibuprofens can't take care of. Think I may have stained my couch though, lovely Xmas Hmm

My house is a complete mess which I will try to sort out today. I haven't even unpacked everything yet and I have no decorations up. Oh well Xmas Grin

Sorry to hear about Christmas Carolina, can't be fun if it's nothing you choose yourself Thanks

IntheBleakMiladyBeeeWinter · 20/12/2014 14:33

Carolina in case you don't get notifications / check them, I have PMd you Xmas Wink

QueenOfNewYorkLyndie · 20/12/2014 15:54

Oh that's good Madame glad you got seen. Hope DS is feeling better soon.

MrsB we have scoring systems for things like tonsillitis, to work out who needs antibiotics. In others countries you would have near patient testing systems that would give you a result in minutes so you would know straight away if it was vital or not. Too expensive for the NHS though! For chest infections it's clinical so yes pulse, temp and what you hear when you're listening to the chest. In some infections antibiotics only shorten the duration of the illness by ONE day so there's virtually no point in giving them anyway!

((((Carolina))))
