Having re-read The Half Blood Prince last week, I think he is on the right side, but no-one agrees with me! Anyone else sad enough to have an opinion on this?

OP posts:
Alibaldi · 28/09/2006 16:26

saltire omg love you post - perhaps Snape is Harry's father

saltire · 28/09/2006 16:26

Don't laugh Pruni, there are probably people out there who have got spreadsheets full of HP data!

Blandmum · 28/09/2006 16:27

I only 'Know' the bits about dd being dead, and voldy not being harry's dad, because JKR is on record that that is the case.

the 'his scar' bit also is acredited to her.

The bit about the locket....I remembered it, it is described when they are 'cleaning' GP....the bit where they talk about a musical box that made them al sleepy and that there was a large locket that no-one could open. She has laid the plot well. This also explains why Mundungus has been selling off the sliver....the locket has gone missing. Why else put in the stuff about 'dung.

The rest is guessing!

Oh and DD tells harry that worm tail will 'owe' him. because he let him live in the end of book 3

I have to get out more

hulababy · 28/09/2006 16:27

I still can't see it being Harry who dies. Mainly because it is a children's book.

MerlinsBeard · 28/09/2006 16:28

how can snape be harrys father when harrys father is James and both him and Lily died?? and how would you explain teh death eatewrs mark on his arm if he was Harrys father?

Blandmum · 28/09/2006 16:29

Snape loved Lily, but James is deffo harry's dad. JKR says so

To avoid people making up their own endings, apparantly JKR has covered this in book 7:

The final chapter, which has already been written, will detail what happens to the characters that survive

saltire · 28/09/2006 16:30

MB i mentioned the locket being a horcrux- has JKR confirmed anywhere that it is? I just wondered as she often gives out titbits from the books!
Like you, i need to get out more as well.
I also have this theory that Percy isn't really bad, he is "spying" on the ministery for the Order. not that i like Percy as a character, i never have, it's just something i have thought since he turned.

expatinscotland · 28/09/2006 16:30

She'll kill him off just so all these utter brain donors won't write drivel about him.

Don't see why a childrens' book can't include death.

It's part of life.

As a 'child' of 14 or 15, we had to read books where characters died all the time as part of English class.

I had 'Moby Dick' forced on me at 16, and everyone but Ismael snuffs it in that.

saltire · 28/09/2006 16:31

Pruni i'm in East Fife if that helps?

Blandmum · 28/09/2006 16:34

She hasn't confirmed the horcrux.

I also have always thought that Percy was a 'mole', but the more reacent books have left me doubting it....there is now no reason why he couldn't be 'out' is there?

There is also a theory that I like that harry's scar is a horcrux.

I have wasted hours debating all this stuff with the kids in the car, and also with adult friends. I have worked out that the school can't run on the number of teachers that they have

And why do they never have another flying lesson after the first? Madam Hooch gets her money for old rope!

And why is Hooch a madame and not professor?

And how did hageid know that Quirrel was the DADA teacher if the job was cursed and people only lasted a year....that would mean it was his first year in the job, and it is obvious from some of hagrid's comments that he has been in the school for a while.

AAARRRGGGHHH. I'm going mad!

motherinferior · 28/09/2006 16:36

Martian, dear, I really do think getting out more is a good idea.

I also do hope Snape is a goodie because it would make Rowling a rather better writer.

I think the horcruxes are all objects, excepting Nagini.

Harry's definitely going to cop it.

Snape will live b/c, let's face it, Alan Rickman is sexier than that kid who plays Harry.

saltire · 28/09/2006 16:39

I am a member of mugglenet ( but don't tell anyone) and some of the comments and theories there are off the wall, so its been good to have an adult discussion, i could debate it for hours, but not with DH who hasn't read the books, he has only seen the films.
I mentioned that some people think Lily had a realtionship with Snape or Lupin, just to clarify, i don't think that, it was just something i had read.

Alibaldi · 28/09/2006 16:39

Pruni if only I was still in Kelty - could have lent you books no probs . Colorado's a bit too far though.

I actually think Harry's a Horcrux to be honest and that's why he's not the one.

Anyone who can make that much money off that few books is anything but simplistic.

saltire · 28/09/2006 16:41

expat, i'm not sure that i agree Alan Rickman is sexy, but compared to the other adults he is. gary Oldman and whatisface that plays Lupin do nothing for me. Mind you, the young lad that played Cedric was cute and of course David Tennant (minus beard) was in it!

Alibaldi · 28/09/2006 16:41

umm tough one that Pruni - let me think a while ... Colorado. Another Mum from kelty emigrated at the same time as me to Canada - leaving thick and fast - can't imagine why can you?

doggiesayswoof · 28/09/2006 16:41

Agree about the death thing expat - anyway, the books have been steeped in death right from the start. Harry's parents...Myrtle...Cedric...Sirius...Dumbledore..why not Harry?

MB I've fretted over the pupil:teacher ratio as well. Maybe they do it by magic

expatinscotland · 28/09/2006 16:42

Exactly, doggie.

I just had a quick think over all the books I had to read for high school English, and even before that.

There was a lot of dying going round!

But hey, it's fiction.

In fact, some of those books were so dire, death was a welcome reprieve from the tedium.
