Having re-read The Half Blood Prince last week, I think he is on the right side, but no-one agrees with me! Anyone else sad enough to have an opinion on this?

OP posts:
MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 10:08

god, i'm FINALLY doing it - i'm BF while on MN. but I HAVE to get to the end of this thread!!

Started reading it when 600+ posts, now 700+...

i'll NEVER catch up

Rosyspookily · 17/10/2006 10:16

good multitasking missybabee oh yeah read the whole thread and give us all your Potter ideas!!

MerlinsBeard · 17/10/2006 10:26

Aragorn

He would make a fab Sirius actually

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 10:42

ok, i've done it, hurrah.

can i just say that viggo mortesen is gorgeous ONLY in LOTR. saw him interviewed on bonus CD and he looked all wrinkly and totally non-gorg.

if he looked like he does in LOTR and played Sirius B, yes, he would be gorgeous. Agree G Oldman just doesn't have the right look (cool as he is).

as for DD, i really want him to come back to life. I wept buckets when he died. DH wondered what was wrong with me! i was unconsolable . Without DD, the books are useless. No, Harry is useless!! He can't do any of this stuff on his own. Hermione is really the brains behind it all. Harry's a bit thick at times...

Talking of who should play the parts, def not Michael Gambon for DD! Obv RHarris died (sadly) and can't continue the role, but it should have been Gandolf. The two are interchangeable as already said. MGambon keeps descending into Irish! It's terrible!

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 10:44

don't mean 'descending' in a bad way (sorry Irish people ) but has anyone else noticed how his accent is all over the place?

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 10:49

i actually got a bit annoyed that harry didn't immediately run to dd's office and try and speak to dd's portrait. i would have done!

having read all your posts, can someone explain why Malfoy needed to be saved??? who cares about him?

i definitely thought there was something about fawkes that could bring DD back to us, even if in another form.

i wish i could go into more detail about it all but my brain's a haze after PG and birth of DD. when i started reading this thread, i couldn't even remember what a horcrux was! am thinking of digging out book 6 again...

oh, and there was something that really got to me at the time about the fact harry couldn't move and was invisible. I will re-read that bit and post back. something about it doesn't add up.

Rosyspookily · 17/10/2006 10:49

s'ok, I'm an irish person and thats maybe why I haven't noticed his accent, but yes the original was right and no one else but Gandalf would do.
Agree that Harry is mediocre wizard and if V hadn't tranferred powers into Harry he would definately have been a squib! hee hee. Don't worry Dd's Phoenix patronus will save him!

MerlinsBeard · 17/10/2006 10:51

This may be irrelavant but on the cover of my copy of order of the phoenix the phoenix has 3 feathers. 1 is in harrys wand the otehr in V's....the other one.....

Or is it just that phoenixes (sp?) have 3 feathers anyway?!

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 11:07

hmm. i just think it depends on the artist's depiction of a mythical bird. you think JKR would have let the artist in on something that big??? no, i don't think so!

did MN reply to anyone about getting JKR on in the end?

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 11:07

imnot27 · 17/10/2006 16:52

No, don't think they replied, let's all message them again!!!

OP posts:
saltire · 17/10/2006 17:12

They replied to me when i emailed them about getting JK in for a chat, they said they would have a discussion about it

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 17:13

ooh, i will send them a message too then. more power in numbers!

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 17/10/2006 17:15

Where's that thread with suggestions for the next live event?

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 17:27

i've sent a message via the link at the top.

i can't find bk 6, think it's in the loft somewhere

this means i can't reread the bit where dd dies. can someone please remind me - is harry prevented from speaking when he's got the spell on him? i just know there's something that doesn't add up to do with harry at that point. really bugging me

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 17:36

they've replied saying they have already tried one avenue and have been advised to try another

imnot27 · 17/10/2006 17:41

missybabee, DD puts an imobiliser spell on Harry so he can't move or speak, also he's under the invisibilty cloak. When DD is killed, the spell finishes. Any help?

OP posts:
MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 18:14

thanks imnot27

i may be wrong here but i'm sure that somewhere in the series they talk about/possibly even learn doing spells silently and i think i was wondering why doesn't harry just do the 'accio wand' spell in his head (or whatever the spell is that brings things to you). can anyone remember this or have i dreamt this...???

but then i spose even if the wand came to him, he couldn't use it could he?

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 17/10/2006 18:17

Rolf Harris is dead??? {shock]
He'd make a great Dumbledore actually
DD's wand must have a phoenix feather - that's why he was the only one who could had a chance against Voldemort before.
Malfoy must be saved because he is a product of his upbringing. Children are not allowed to be inherently evil in fiction, there is always a turning point where they choose good or evil and become an adult. Much like Annakin Skywalker when he kills all those nomads.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 17/10/2006 18:21

Discussion or not, she's a very busy lady, would be on the bloomin' news if she agreed.

MissyBabee · 17/10/2006 18:23

god, i thought you were serious then buckets! (re. RH)

good point re. malfoy.

i've been um-ing and ar-ing re snape. i was shocked when we found he really was bad (at the beginning of book 6) but if he was good really, why on earth is he so mean to everyone all the time?! i mean, it's not just harry he's mean to is it?

Rosyspookily · 17/10/2006 19:11

Poor grumpy Snape was bullied at school by james etc kind of explains his attitude to Harry and also on another occasion wasn't there a sad memory of a difficult childhood?

Maybe we will find out more about why he has all the chips on his shoulder. I do think he is a great character, all complex and brooding!

Must admit I think I would eat my hat if JK came on here. But you never know!

MerlinsBeard · 17/10/2006 21:24

Bucketsofdino's....DDs wand can't have a phoenix feather as Ollivander says that Fawkes only gave 2 (harrys and V's)
can a phoenix bring someone back to life? their tears can heal but wondering if they can stretch that far?

Alos, why do house elves have more powerful magic than wizards? and why can Dobby dissapparate from Harrys bed in hospital (prisoner of azkaban i think) if you're not supposed to be able to apparate or dissapparate in teh grounds of hogwarts?

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 18/10/2006 10:15

Yeah I always assumed the goodies would marshall the House elves into an army on the promise of freedom. If Hermione's efforts go unmentioned in Book7 I will be annoyed, they've already been forgotten about in the last couple. The magical world could use some Muggle morals, they all sound like a bunch of pigs when you think about it (all right I know slavery was only abolished 150yrs ago in the US). Maybe she should end up Minister for Magic, not Headmistress.

cupsnakes · 18/10/2006 10:30

bucketof dinosaurs - I agree with your comment that children are not allowed to be evil and have the opportunity to change. Like Edmund in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
