Having re-read The Half Blood Prince last week, I think he is on the right side, but no-one agrees with me! Anyone else sad enough to have an opinion on this?

I think McGonagall is married but her DH (DD's best friend of course) vanished in some war, missing on some terribly noble mission but can't be proclaimed dead for some reason. So she and DD have this big Moonlighting-style will-they-won't-they chemistry about which nothing can be done because of their love and respect for her dh.
What book was that in?

cupsnakes · 12/10/2006 17:26

really?
McGonagall is the archetypal spinster surely?

DumbledoresGirl · 12/10/2006 17:29

No no no. You have misconstrued Dumbledore's actions. he is not having it off with McGonagall in his study every night. He is just the archetypal (spelling?) gentleman. Hence asking McGonagall to dance with him etc.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/10/2006 17:30

Oops, not casting aspersions on your spelling ability Cupcakes I typed my post before I saw yours.

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 12/10/2006 17:34

Well all right then, she was engaged to her war hero and priomised she'd wait for him, so for some very oldfashioned reason, that's enough to stop them ever hooking up.

cupsnakes · 12/10/2006 17:57

lol

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 12/10/2006 20:08

The Weasleys-being-poor is interesting

am wondering if there is a reason for it, like a curse.

or maybe you can't just magic up things. maybe its just not allowed. can't think of an example of anything being created by magic, just improved.

hmmm. wonder if the weasleys claim benefits

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 12/10/2006 20:12

aberforth is the barman

you need to scroll down and/or search for aberforth, btw.

MerlinsBeard · 12/10/2006 20:18

quote from that link

In your stories, will Harry Potter ever grow up as a wizard?

Well, I don?t think it is giving too much away to say that he will survive to book seven, mainly because I do not want to be strangled by you lot, but I am not going to say whether he grows any older than that because I have never said that. You are good at putting me on the spot!

MerlinsBeard · 12/10/2006 20:22

dumbledores scar from the underground? i don't rememeber that

cupsnakes · 12/10/2006 20:55

here are some stills from the new film

which character is the blonde girl?
and (imo) Imelda Staunton does not look toadlike enough to be Dolores.

MerlinsBeard · 12/10/2006 20:57

isn't she Luna?

There are a few other suggestions for Umbridge cupcakes, probably lurking at the bottom of the thread. The office is great though!

cupsnakes · 12/10/2006 21:09

yes, I thought the office was very well done.

That girl doesn't look nearly as loony as I'd imagined her but you must be right - I can't think of anyone else she could be.

ah, yes - now I look again, she does appear to be wearing radish earrings (and is in the picture of Dumbledore's Army)

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 13/10/2006 07:44

he has a scar shaped like the london undergrpund. in bk 1 he says it can be useful

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 13/10/2006 09:24

Yes she's got the big dangly earrings LOL

Rosyspookily · 13/10/2006 10:08

sooo Dumbledore knew V couldn't be killed without the horcruxes being destroyed...
Has JK said how many key characters will die, couldn't the main character to die not just be Voldemort? We don't know her hubby, he maybe enjoys the bad characters... If its Ron, Hermione or Harry I'm going to have to wear black for a year!

Rosyspookily · 13/10/2006 10:11

Could Dumbledore have released his phoenix patronus when he died to come back and protect Harry a bit?

dreamcatcher · 13/10/2006 11:29

OOOOh I hadn't thought of it being his patronus! Good thinking. Can I think that too please?
Imelda Stuanton looks totally wrong... what a shame the casting has been so good before.
Although I thought Sirius would be better looking.

cupsnakes · 13/10/2006 11:30

oh, I LIKE Sirius.

dreamcatcher · 13/10/2006 11:43

thought he was more fanciable in the books.

busybusymum · 13/10/2006 12:46

definately agree with you there dreamcatcher ;)

imnot27 · 13/10/2006 13:03

Yep, I just didn't see Sirius as Gary Oldman in the books. Am having looong running debate with my friend as to who should be Sirius, any ideas? Was another thread somewhere about who should be Umvbridge, didn't you start it Dumbledoresgirl? Like the idea of Mcgonagall having longlostpresumeddead fiance somewhere, maybe he'll pop up in book 7 and sweep her off her feet....

Bucketsofbloodydinosaurs · 13/10/2006 22:21

I always saw Umbridge as played by the witch from Simon & the Witch (also played the nutty neighbour in Sense & sensibility) - anyone know what I'm on about?
When I was reading the book someone told me Cain Dingle from Emmerdale had been up for the part fo Sirius so in my head he looks like that (with longer hair.)

Gary Oldman was once married to Uma Thurman.
