Having re-read The Half Blood Prince last week, I think he is on the right side, but no-one agrees with me! Anyone else sad enough to have an opinion on this?

Is this still going on

Have nothing further to add to the debate - no-one will let me hypothesise about human horcruxes

No way is Dumbledore a baddie, and he has not done a horcrux, only baddies do that.

I thought DR was extraordinarily brave to do that excrutiating Extras thing - there's a lot of saddoes out there who can't distinguish between TV and reality and they'll doubtless go around thinking he's as much of a saddo as his extras character! Horribly excrutiatingly funny.

wtf???

Have absolutely no idea what happened there, it wasn't even my latest post!

Goddam computers

FluffyCharlotteCorday · 29/09/2006 09:55

LOL cheesyfeet. Feel strongly about human horcruxes?

I think it might be Filch who does magic late in life.

DumbledoresGirl · 29/09/2006 10:09

One thing I have read is that no significant new character will be added in Book 7. Basically, we know all the characters there are to know about. So how many muggles or squibs do we know about who could be a possible candidate for later doing magic? There aren't that many - Petunia, Dudley, Vernon, Mrs Figg, Filch, Hermione's parents...I think it has to be Petunia who obviously has another aspect to her.

(I am going to steadfastly ignore all rumours that Dumbledore is a baddy).

saltire · 29/09/2006 10:14

Could be Filch who does magic - after all he is a squib!
I cannot believe this is still going, a huge thread devoted to fictional characters.
Anyway back to the points. I don't think DD is bad, i think the whole "gleam of triumph" thing is because previously Voldemort couldn't touch Harry - i can't remember why - but now he could may make it easier for him to feel pain, and therefore die. I also mentioned that DD was killed to save Malfoy, who i believe will redeem himself in some way, but i also pointed out that Malfoy was to kill DD because Voldemort threatned his mother, and i wonder what will happen to her when V finds out it wasn't Malfoy who killed DD!!

saltire · 29/09/2006 10:16

DD's girl, JKR has said that Petunia isn't a squib. That's not to say she's not capable of doing magic. I don't know if JKR has ever said if Petunia is a witch, only she doesn't know yet.
Maybe no-one has asked the question

DumbledoresGirl · 29/09/2006 10:30

It just seems to me there is more to the character of Petunia than meets the eye. She had a sister who was a witch, she has some knowledge of the magic world which has been hinted out, she seems to be slightly in thrall to Dumbledore, again suggesting a connection we know nothing about..... Also, she is rather OTT in her denial of the magic world (methinks the lady doth protest too much) suggesting something she wants to deny, something more than the disgrace of her sister IYSWIM.

I also think the gleam in Dumbledore's eye is more to do with him knowing this makes Voldemort somehow more fallible. I will haunt the descendants of JKR for all eternity if she makes Dumbledore into a baddy.

CheesyFeet · 29/09/2006 11:23

If Petunia can do magic, she wouldn't be a squib I suppose, she'd be a witch.

HappyDaddy · 29/09/2006 11:31

Oh Shit, shit, hairy fecking shit.

I haven't read the half blood prince yet, i open this thread and find out Dumbledore snuffs it. Why oh why did i open this thread? Bugger.

imnot27 · 29/09/2006 11:41

Wow, still going! I agree Cheesy, I think Petunia defintely has more about her than we know so far, maybe cos Lily got into Hogwarts and she did'nt, so she hates all things magical?

OP posts:
Bucketsofdinosaurs · 29/09/2006 11:42

Could Dumbledore have been got with a polyjuice potion a la Mad-eye Moody?

imnot27 · 29/09/2006 11:42

Also, can you send a howler to a muggle?

OP posts:
imnot27 · 29/09/2006 11:44

Buckets, do you mean he was someone else pretending to be DD who then got killed, or DD is taking potion to be someone else..??

OP posts:
Bucketsofdinosaurs · 29/09/2006 14:41

Ooh, had meant the former but hey, why not both? Snape and Dumbledore switched places, that's why he gave permission when Snape killed him.

motherinferior · 29/09/2006 16:10

I rather love this thread, if only for the fact that it proves that I am actually quite normal.

imnot27 · 29/09/2006 16:39

Or that we are all equally sad... Where are you Dumbledoresgirl, have you found bits in HBP about DD gleaming or sommat?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 29/09/2006 16:45

I will be one of the tragedies who queue up for the midnight sale of the last book .

My boss and I are also taking the day after the release off so we can stay up and read, read, read!

imnot27 · 29/09/2006 16:49

Me too expat! I took my dd (10) last year, to Ottakers, we had a fab time! We heard people were dressing up, so she went as Hermione and I was a witch. When we got there, loads of Kids dressed up, and the only adults dresssed up were the staff! People kept asking me for books all night!

saltire · 29/09/2006 16:52

I ordered mine from Amazon last year, and was up and dressed and waiting, along with my neighbour, at the end of the road for the postie. My IL's were up that day, and i spent the whole day reading the book, whilst listening to MIL and her sarky comments.
I too am glad that i'm not the only "sad" fan

misdee · 29/09/2006 16:58

i ordered the HBP from amazon and spent a leasury few days reading it. dh knows not to disturb me when a new HP book comes out.

i am re-reading the HBP atm (just upto the bit where DD and harry are going to find the horcrux), cant wait for the next one.

DumbledoresGirl · 29/09/2006 17:10

I am here, reading this. I thought I shouldn't post all the time as i don't want to appear a complete saddo. I am really upset that Dumbledore might not be as he seems - ie the force for goodness. But I don't think he is a baddy, because I don't think he could have fooled absolutely everyone -Lupin, Black, Weasleys, entire good wizarding world - if he was really in cahoots with Voldemort.

alexsmum · 29/09/2006 17:52

dumbledores girl- i want you to take some deep breaths-in through the nose-out through the mouth-and again-right are you feeling calmer now?
dumbledore is a goody. there is no way he is a baddie-just no way. he's hundreds of years old- why would he be good all this time until voldermort appears and start being bad? it doesn't make any sense.

i agree about maybe petunia being a witch-very interesting theory.
am also interested in the theory of dumbledore having his own horcrux-maybe his is in godric griffyndors sword? have started re-reading book seven and dd says to harry that he is certain voldy hasn't put a horcrux in it because he has kept it close and safe. so maybe his is in it????
