I apologise in advance for the topic of conversation, i'm sure you are all as fed up of it as i am now.

My H/A called me today to tell me that in the new housing policy bands I have been placed in HIGH band. It isn't the top band, there is URGENT band above it. They said that i have a very good position in my band but given my areas of choice (sutton coldfield and Lichfield) they cannot forsee any 3 beds becoming empty.
I know that they cannot possibly know for sure, but basically in the past 2 years neither place has had a house become vacant.

I know i could get rehoused alot quicker if i were to put down other areas, but i'm just not sure. I love living here, but at the moment it's driving me mad. My only alternbative seems to be to either move to a complelty different area or rent privatly here.

Am i being to picky ?? Should i widen my areas of choice ??? I'm giving myself a headache trying to decide what to do. I have to say, i would be devastated to leave this area.

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 15:49

Didn't know there was such a thing Fio (the book that is, not Stafford).
I must have at least 20 application forms under this desk for a number of different areas, but i always bottle it when it comes to sending them off.

OP posts:
Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 15:50

I think i do have one for Stafford. Does the Beth Johnson housing group ring any bells ??

OP posts:
Fio2 · 06/04/2004 15:50

OP posts:
bundle · 06/04/2004 15:52

nutty, have you tried the link?

jampot · 06/04/2004 15:53

Hey Nutty are you after flat/house 2/3/4 bedroom what area of Sutton are you looking in and do you have to be housed by HA or Council or private (sorry don't know exactly how it works but do know people who live in Sutton and I'll see if anyone knows of any property to rent.

What areas are they offering you?

Codswallop · 06/04/2004 15:53

what about derbyshire nutty?
Or elsewherein brum..kIngs heath around there?

suzywong · 06/04/2004 15:54

hi nutty
you know what, perhaps you should make a fresh start in a fresh area (just the four of you).
It seems to me you are chasing your tail and cannot make the leap you need to be fulfilled. Easier said than done I understand, but you seem to be constantly teetering on the brink. Perhaps a nice house in a new area would be the impetus you need to make a new life for yourself, with things that you want (and deserve)
Sorry it this sounds too analytical but I have been reading your posts for a while and I think you do want to break out of your current environment, this could be the opportunity you need.
Hugs to you what ever you decide to do

Fio2 · 06/04/2004 16:01

I would imagine Sutton and Lichfield are the most sought after places for houses anyway, so it would most probably be easier to move to another place not 'too' far away

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 16:03

That link is really good Bundle thanks, and nearly all of the results were good too.

Jampot - We need a 3 bed house, don't care about d/g but do need c/h as dd is asthmatic. We live in Walmley at the mo and that is where we would like to stay, but private rents around here are at least 500 a month whoch would leave us pretty broke each month. The council or H/A's haven't offered us a thing (in 2 years). We are down for Falcon lodge, Wylde Green, Minworth, Boldmere, with the council and Walmley and Lichfield with the H/A.

Coddy - We have seriously considered Derbyshire as there is a web site that shows which council porperties are available each week and this week there are 22 three beds.
Am not to keen on Kings Heath.

Suzy - You are right i know that, but i'm just not sure i am strong enough to go it alone. Yet

I realise I did come on strong, Nutty, and I think I misread the tone of this thread so sorry. You know you have my unfaling support what ever you do

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 16:06

Ah Suzy no need for apologies, and thanks

Hi, perhaps you could try to become "urgent" it can sometimes be done although possible not ethical.
Also check out if you are entitled to any financial help if it is just the four of you,

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 16:15

The only way i can become urgent is if i become homeless. I can't get dp to kick me out because i am sole tennant, and despite having a letter from a psychiatrist stating that this property is affecting my mental health, i am not classed as urgent.

If i was on my own with kids i would get full housing benefit but then most private rentals won't accept someone on housing benefit.

bundle · 06/04/2004 16:18

glad it helped nutty, I checked on the schools we applied to on it and they were a pretty accurate reflection.

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 16:20

Is Cannock a nice place to live ???? I have been there a do know someone who used tro live there but i can't ask him, so does anyone know ??

OP posts:
gothicmama · 06/04/2004 16:21

Oh gosh .I will have a think- I know someone who works in housing who I will see after easter hols. If you like I can ask her for advice. When I was in similar situation I refused to move from HA offices and finally got sorted, but it was hardwork and I did not have kids at the time . Also local authority where I live has list of private landlords who accept housing benefit perhaps they do where you are.

Fio2 · 06/04/2004 16:23

I know but I was biorn there, so maybe not a good person to ask!!! my mum lives in hednesford...whereabouts is it nutty??

my anon really has gone now!
