I apologise in advance for the topic of conversation, i'm sure you are all as fed up of it as i am now.

My H/A called me today to tell me that in the new housing policy bands I have been placed in HIGH band. It isn't the top band, there is URGENT band above it. They said that i have a very good position in my band but given my areas of choice (sutton coldfield and Lichfield) they cannot forsee any 3 beds becoming empty.
I know that they cannot possibly know for sure, but basically in the past 2 years neither place has had a house become vacant.

I know i could get rehoused alot quicker if i were to put down other areas, but i'm just not sure. I love living here, but at the moment it's driving me mad. My only alternbative seems to be to either move to a complelty different area or rent privatly here.

Am i being to picky ?? Should i widen my areas of choice ??? I'm giving myself a headache trying to decide what to do. I have to say, i would be devastated to leave this area.

Thanks so much all for your help and advice, i do really appreciate it. I am sooo longing to start a 'Nuttys got a house' thread

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 16:33

Blimey thats good. Bet they credit check though. I am sure they sometimes advertise in outr local paper too, will have to ckeck it on friday.
I think it is Heath Hayes. The map i've got says Cannock in capitals and then has Blackfords, Heath Hayes, Chase Terrace, Norton East and Norton Canes around it.

Go for it Nutty - 2 have been more than patient for 2 years and done everything in your power to do...if it's been 2 years and no three beds it could be another 2 years
I'm sure there will be somebody on mumsnet who can tell you about an area, schools etc

Good luck - let us know how you get on

apply for as many areas as possible. there was only one area i wouldnt take when i applied, but have apprently ended up on a bad estate here but havent had any probs so far.

Nutcracker · 06/04/2004 20:51

I chop and change my mind that many times in a day i get dizzy. Am not sleping to well now either as i can't switch off, and everything just keeps going round and round in y head.
I was really hoping to be moved before dd2 started school in september as she won't take kindly to being moved anyway.

tiredemma · 07/04/2004 07:26

i love herefordshire nutty, dps family all live down that way ( his dads side ) and its where we want to move to eventually, cant at the mo cuz of dp's job but we will end up there some day, plus its still close to b.ham to visit family.
hope you find something!

gothicmama · 07/04/2004 09:41

Shropshire is nice Beth Johnson are increasing Housing stock in Telford, They have also just finished building some nice looking houses

Hulababy · 07/04/2004 09:47

There are some lovely places in Yorkshire too. I only know around South Yorkshire really but may be able to help you weed out the areas that aren't so good.

marialuisa · 07/04/2004 10:12

herefordshire is nice and the schools are excellent (my mum lives there), as others said it's just over an hour from Hereford station to b'ham New street and tickets are quite cheap. if you don't drive make sure it's nowhere too rural as buses etc. are non-existent. have you got any forms for the worcestershire area?

Nutcracker · 07/04/2004 10:26

I think i have got a Worcestershire form somewhere, i'll have to dig it out.

Will have a go at persuading dp to consider telford, he doesn't like it for some reason.

Didn't realise herefordshire was that close. My geography is crap.

Dp said he thinks he would like cannock, which was a bit spooky as i mentioned it earlier.
I am going to have another look for more H/A's today and see what else is out there.

Thanks again guys

Why don't you just apply to these other areas and see what you get offered? As dd1 is already school age, then you can't really worry about schools until you know of a house that is available to you as you will have to see which local schools have got room for her age? And presumably if they don't suit you can turn them down and you haven't lost out - or am I missing something obvious? If you turn down a property anywhere in the country you go to the bottom of the list?

If you've been waiting over 2 years already and you're still not urgent, aren't you having to face another 2 year wait? Don't know anything about HA/council housing, but surely if you can apply for other areas, then other people can apply for yours and you may never get to the top? Walmley is a nice area but it is not so great as to go through the misery that you seem to be enduring. Which school is dd1 at, that is so marvellous? My friends living locally have never been that taken with the schooling (except for those who managed selective schools at 11).

It really doesn't sound as if much is coming up locally, so it sounds as if you stay put or move out of the area.

Smiler2 · 07/04/2004 11:05

Yes, what's wrong with Telford?! Don't actually live there but know it well and there are lots of nice bits. Can see what your dh means as it's a big new town but some very pretty parts too and excellent facilities (sorry I sound like an advertising campaign for Telford!).

bundle · 07/04/2004 11:10

worked in telford for a couple of months, felt v depressed. no pavements, kept getting lost cos all the flats looked the same where I was living.

Smiler2 · 07/04/2004 11:16

Oh dear sorry bundle!
