I agree bran.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/09/2006 22:53

bran - I hope they don't tame down Top Gear - that's what makes Top Gear so different from other car programmes - they're just bonkers (in a nice way I hasten to add!). I don't think RH would want them to tame it down either...

Molesworth · 20/09/2006 22:54

I agree with CD!

Lottieru · 20/09/2006 22:54

sorry Gingerbear i'm not normally so nasty but moon's post was downright awful and i responded in kind

you know i'm not normally like that

Mascaraohara · 20/09/2006 22:55

car he was driving

tamum · 20/09/2006 22:56

Not flippant. Vile and trying-too-hard.

Molesworth · 20/09/2006 22:56

CD wasn't being flippant - she was urging us to not get our collective knickers into too much of a twist over moondog's nasty remark. It's not worth the energy, really.

lanismum · 20/09/2006 22:57

i didnt know how fast f1 cars go, was just trying to be positive

Most of their comedy is staged, the seeting the car wash a light, blowing up the caravan etc

Top gear is a fab show, long may it continue and I agree I don't think RH would want it to change, this is what he does, what he loves, he lives for it so why would he want it to change.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 20/09/2006 22:57

i hope to god he is ok, and i too am appalled (sp?) by MD's comments - totally uncalled for.

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 22:57

I can't believe some people. Nice. Your mother's must be proud of you.

handlemecarefully · 20/09/2006 22:57

It was a pretty bloody awful comment from Moondog..but don't forget, she can be kind and warm too (remember that story from Custardo about how Moondog put a lot of time into finding and photographing the exact spot on a Welsh lakeside where Custy spent her childhood holidays - with her father who died tragically young? That photo evoked lots of memories for Custardo and touched her deeply)

I don't think MD could have meant it - but agree, it would be far better left unsaid

Mascaraohara · 20/09/2006 22:57

setting the car wash alight...

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 22:57

mothers even

lanismum · 20/09/2006 22:58

jesus quad, looks like its made from tin foil, looks like it wouldnt provide any protection..........

twinsetandpearls · 20/09/2006 22:58

I think that may be way people are so shocked HMC, becuase it does seem out of charactar. I am a MD fan, she normally seesm such a warm compassionate person.

emkana · 20/09/2006 22:59

hmc, I agree with you, but why can't she just come back then and say hey - I made a mistake and I'm sorry?

hooleymama · 20/09/2006 23:00

Wow Moondog's not flavour of the month then...I quite like RH, he seems very sweet.. must be awful for his wife & kiddies...that said..if the whole 'how fast can I drive my car thing under the influence of testosterone?' idea wasn't glamourised by programmes like Top Gear there'd be fewer road deaths...maybe that's what Mooondog is referring to...

catsmother · 20/09/2006 23:01

Her 1st comment may have been flippant (and, in the circumstances, cruel and thoughtless).

Imagine if his wife read that - though obviously right now she has far better things to think about than a stranger's petty spite.

Her 2nd comment - her "defence" - referred to him being despicable because he was a "white middle class man" who drove fast cars.

Maybe that was supposed to be ironic ? Maybe it was posted to stir us all up ?

But whatever it was, it was racist at face value and appallingly insensitive.

I personally love Top Gear but that's irrelevant here. If someone from A.N.Other programme which I hated was similarly injured, I would feel just as horrified for their family, as does anyone with a shred of compassion when they hear of someone being taken before their time.
