christ, it cant be a good outcome can it? that speed, with no roof...hope hes ok.

aitch71 · 20/09/2006 22:46

amazing, someone's updated Richard Hammond's Wikipedia listing already.

"On September 20 2006, Hammond was involved in an accident at Elvington Airfield near York while attempting to break the England land speed record. The jet-powered car he was driving is capable of speeds up to 280mph.
"The actual speed he was travelling at the time of the accident is yet to be confirmed. However, The Vampire, sponsored by the Swedish company Thule, weighs 2,200 lbs, is 30 feet long and drinks 7-10 gallons of fuel per mile (depending on the speed).
The jet-car accelerates from 0 to 272 mph in six seconds and is powered by a Rolls Royce Orpheus jet engine and is theoretically capable of 370mph."

This is really I hope he is okay. Quite shocked at such a heartless comment by moondog. Whether you like him or his programme he is still a person with a family.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/09/2006 22:47

JJ - he's working class and white.......surely then my DH should loathe the man for those reasons.........but we don't.....

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/09/2006 22:48

aitch - I just noticed that......obviously lots of googling going on as some of those pages which have lots of info on him (rather than just references) have suddenly appeared on the top.

hazelnuts · 20/09/2006 22:48

just seen it on the ITV news and its not looking good for him.

Its really sad

My thought go to him family

MOONshitty person. what planet are you on that you feel the need to revel in the fact that someone else is hurt. I'm sorry but is he not a human being! He has not shot/maimed/euthinsed(sp) anyone that i Know of. and he is not a pervert as far as i know so why are you so f***g evil?

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 22:50

oh no he's the only one I like on Top Gear

Hope he's ok

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 22:50

HRH - well no, most people can see beyond the exterior to the humanity below iykwim. Child losing their father is tragic whoever their father happens to be (and I happen to like RH)

lanismum · 20/09/2006 22:50

though f1 drivers often have high speed crashes with no roofs and come out of it alive, maybe he will be ok.

Joolstoo · 20/09/2006 22:50

you'd think, wouldn't you, that with moondog's dh have a serious back problem just recently she'd be a little more understanding of the familys position at least.

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 22:51

fgs moondog made a flippant comment I don't think it warrants this collective knicker twisting come on!

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 20/09/2006 22:51

oh I know - I like the bloke too - I was referring to a certain comment about him being middle class and white, and apparently therefore unlikeable........

marthamoo · 20/09/2006 22:51

I really like him - I hope he pulls through. His poor wife and children

bran · 20/09/2006 22:52

I wonder if there will be a change in Top Gear's rather annoying 'fast is good, faster is better'. I've often though that a lot of what they do is an accident waiting to happen. I hope Richard Hammond recovers of course, and then goes on to tell people to think of their families and drive responsibly.

Jimjams2 · 20/09/2006 22:52

flippant??? I think you mean sick.

emkana · 20/09/2006 22:52

But CD moondog came back to actually justify what she had said in her first post...

Gingerbear · 20/09/2006 22:52

Lottieru, please don't stoop so low as to start throwing personal insults.

lucykate · 20/09/2006 22:52

cd - it wasn't that flippant a comment though as she came back a second time to defend it

misdee · 20/09/2006 22:52

flippant??

flippant???

my arse, it was downright sick.

badkarma · 20/09/2006 22:53

Maybe he drinks fruit shoots?

Bad taste, but can't think of any reason why you would wish 2 kids father dead.

CountessDracula · 20/09/2006 22:53

oh god whatever
can't be arsed with this

moomooland · 20/09/2006 22:53

Really hope he pulls through, thoughts with him and his family. Shocked at both the insensitivity and inappropriateness of moondog's comments.

Lottieru · 20/09/2006 22:53

i'm sorry, but who makes a flippent comment on something that could be so tradgic if he dies
it's another humans life and like i said he's not some sort of perv
