What a tragic accident. I feel really sorry for his family.
Another very sudden tradgedy so soon after Croc man.

NotAnOtter · 21/09/2006 17:53

richard we are rooting for you

tribpot · 21/09/2006 17:56

Has this been mentioned on MN yet? JustGiving site to contribute to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service in honour of RH.

TeenyB · 21/09/2006 18:24

Thanks for that tribpot - a very worthwhile cause if even I heard of one.

Still in a daze about all this really - you know when you just hope to goodness that its not actually true, but in your heart of hearts you know that it is

Just hope that Mindy, Izzy and Willow are all getting the support that they deserve too, as I'm sure they are.

Lets all hold hands and send positive thoughts to Leeds GI.

xx Teeny xx

It's all so sad.

Does anyone remember when Rik Mayall had an accident - wasn't it on a quadbike or something like that ? Maybe I'm not remembering properly but I'm pretty sure he was described at the time as having a serious brain injury.

I am sure he made a full recovery - so it can happen.

Let's hope Richard is similarly lucky.

iota · 21/09/2006 18:29

BBC have just said that RH has "significant brain injuries"

RTKangaMummy · 21/09/2006 18:30

They have just said "significant brain injures"

livelife · 21/09/2006 18:35

wot on earth did md say in deleted comment guys? I feel sick bout this accident esp so soon after dear Steve Irwin. truly horrid. will add that i love top gear - they are really entertaining. just so sad.

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 21/09/2006 18:37

Significant might mean only that recovery will take a long time - not that he won't recover. Fingers crossed.

hulababy · 21/09/2006 18:41

They are saying they are expecting to make a good recovery, despite significnt brain injury. Hopefully it just means it will take a long time. Whether good means ghe'll be back on TV one day, I wish I knew.

LIZS · 21/09/2006 18:47

Was thinking about Rik Mayall and also didn't Ozzie Osborne suffer similarly in a Quad bike accident. Could be a long road to recovery for RH but fingers crossed.

Saturn74 · 21/09/2006 18:48

The JustGiving donations page is up to £10,826.00. What a fantastic response.

chocolatemummy · 21/09/2006 18:54

really shocked, my husband is an acid top gear fan and as a result I watch it too he is really cute and full of life, what a tragedy
wouldnt like top speculate on his recovery -or not just wish him and his family the best of luck really

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 21/09/2006 18:58

i agree a fantastic response, but I wont be donating. I feel it is a good cause, but only if shared with ALL air ambulances. I will donate to my local air ambulance tomorrow.

tribpot · 21/09/2006 19:02

Good idea, JARM. This is my local air ambulance service so happy to donate to it.

doobydoo · 21/09/2006 19:06

It is sad.My ds really likes him on Topgear and Brainiac. He also likes Steve Irwin[crocodile man]and was really shocked when he heard about him on the news.We told ds this morning about Richard Hammond as we didn't want him to hear it on the news again. We said about both of them that it is very sad but they both had/have jobs that they really enjoy etc.Ds watched the news tonight as he wanted to know how he is.
Have to say that may make a 'good' recovery..is open to all sorts of interpretations isn't it.But it is really much too early to say much and i think they are wise to be cautious.I really hope he will make a full recovery and wish the best for him and his wife and 2 daughters.

I don't want to specualte too much but I would think the implication is that the part of the brain injured is likely to have long term damage IYSWIM, ie if you turn it round and use insignificant you get the picture. I have worked in brain injury alot and have know many people to have significant injuries after very minimal impact but have also known people to recover after horrendous injuries it really depends on where has been damaged.

HRHQueenOfQuotes · 21/09/2006 19:37

I can't help think about the fact that the doctors are reasonably optimistic that he'll make a "Good" recovery - not a full recovery........

Quadrophenia · 21/09/2006 19:39

people who have suffered an acquired brain injury can often make a full physical recovery

Jimjams2 · 21/09/2006 19:39

So sad, I really hope he makes a full recovery. It might be impossible to tell for a long time, and I really feel for his family having to cope with it all under public scrutiny.

One of the members of ds1's disabled swimming club received serious head injuries from a motorbike accident. I find him quite inspirational (because of his attitude- as he told me "life is about changes")

Jimjams2 · 21/09/2006 19:41

I doubt she's a mumsnetter but there's a lot of concern on these threads as well. Moondog was just being vile and I think ppretty much everyone has noted that.
