Yet somehow a mooncup is gross to some of you?

Why?

OP posts:
fattiemumma · 27/07/2006 23:38

cos i dont want to have to shove a bucket up me flange and ythen get it all over me fingers when it spills.

plus the idea of rinsing it with my own urine is pretty rank and and and and....i just cant

psychomum5 · 27/07/2006 23:39

a mooncup isn't exactly gross to me, altho I just wouldn't use one cos I hate the thought of all that fiddling, and after five babies still not 100% convinced one won't get lost up there.

also....when I have absolutely NO privacy in the bathroom, it wouldn't be the best education I am willing to give my children either!!

southeastastra · 27/07/2006 23:39

fango!

i suppose it's something you have to try, and then make your mind up

hunkermunker · 27/07/2006 23:41

Rinsing it in your own urine?! WHY on earth would you do that?!

I've never heard that, SS - I mean, I suppose you could give it a golden shower, but I don't think it's necessary (optional extra, perhaps?!).

yeap apparantly...or according to the ad on a toilet door i saw recently. if yur in a pblic cubicle and cant rinse it in a sink then "your own sterile urine will work just as well"

that was the one thing that really put me off...i was kinda falling for the hype until then.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 27/07/2006 23:43

Its only blood n womb lining.

Dont get what the problem is.

Mind you - I appear to be on a different planet to the rest of you lot today.

olivia35 · 27/07/2006 23:43

I'm quite up for it, actually, but have only had 4 periods in last 3 years due to breeding & breast feeding.

Only have light periods anyway & tend to use tampons at work (maybe 2 a day for 3 days) & bits of old towel at home (frequently the same bits that I use to stuff the kids' nappies). Then I just rinse & wash them.

Is it WORTH me faffing about with a mooncup?

hunkermunker · 27/07/2006 23:44

It's only blood though. Well, with a bit of gak occasionally.

Do you all look have people who remove tampons or change your pads for you then? [puzzled]

OP posts:
psychomum5 · 27/07/2006 23:44

ok....the urine aspect and public toilets have confirmed for me that it is definately not for me.

southeastastra · 27/07/2006 23:45

why is mn the only place i have ever heard of a mooncup - i've been alive quite a long time

hunkermunker · 27/07/2006 23:45

FM, I think you can just put it back after a quick wipe on a tissue. No need for pee.

does anyone else think it looks slightly like one of those trumpet things that midwives use to listen to yoru bump (when the posh leccy one wont work of course)

GeorginaA · 27/07/2006 23:48

When I was having periods (mirena now, yay!) I actually found a mooncup far LESS messy than tampons - AND I leaked far less - AND I had less period pain!

olivia35 · 27/07/2006 23:49

I'm fairly sure I've read you can wipe clean with bog roll if no immediate washing facilities. Sounds perfectly acceptable to me, I just don't personally require that amount of fiddling about to er, stem the tide.

Would definitely be up for it if I had long/heavy periods.

hunkermunker · 27/07/2006 23:49

Surely you've had...er...leakage issues in the past then SS? I can't see how this is different.

OP posts:
poopy · 27/07/2006 23:50

I am up for it ... but I wasn't until about half an hour ago

GeorginaA · 27/07/2006 23:50

Oh, and also you can go for a lot longer between changes than a tampon, so (bar the first day of flow) you can pretty much time it to always be in the comfort of your own bathroom

Joolstoo · 27/07/2006 23:57

why? she asks

let me turn that around

why would you want to shove a cup up yer nethers? what next? saucers?
