Yet somehow a mooncup is gross to some of you?

Why?

OP posts:
suzywong · 28/07/2006 11:37

expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 12:16

rinsing w/own urine?

never heard of that! just water from the tap works!

love my mooncup. feel like i've got my life back during that time. no more worrying about leaks, and my period seems to have gotten lighter.

expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 12:17

FWIW its less icky than a tampon and far less icky than a soaked sanitary towel and it is far less icky than leaking pads/tampons.
Amazing to think that within a sexual context you allow a fella to play up there and are and grossed out at a mooncup?

expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 12:42

Pads - the non washable type - must be as bad as disposable nappies on the environment.

I mean, I just can't see how those things biodegrade easily.

LieselVonTrapp · 28/07/2006 12:47

I know that why Im really interested and buckets of dinosaurs gave em a really good website yesterday with biodegradeable things on it and Ive ordered some stuff but I just cant do the mooncup - I have tried and I cant

when I change a tampon it goes straight down the toilet (at home) without me looking at it. With a mooncup I would have to clean it out etc yuk.
WTF would I want to look at my own blood..? Yes sure I have given birth but I didn't sit there and look at the blood stained room afterwards .!!!

I'm not squeamish with period blood on a tampon etc BUT faced with a few hours worth of blood in a cup is not something I would enjoy.

Tampons were invented for a reason surely..??!

BUT all IMO..!!!!

1Baby1Bump · 28/07/2006 18:50

and my opinion shhh.

drosophila · 28/07/2006 18:52

Am I alone in that Tampons can feel painful. I sometimes have a low grumbling pain like a period pain and when I remove the tampon it disappears. I use pads a lot more now, having discovered how absorbent they were after childbirth. So for me I fear discomfort. Also never much like using a diaphragm.

my experience after having kids is exactly like Californiafrau's - i couldn't use tampons anymore.

and they seemed to make my cramps and bleeding worse.

thanks, MN! i love my mooncup!

threebob · 28/07/2006 21:49

Sent my order in yesterday - I will review once the hippies send it.

lucykate · 28/07/2006 21:54

i think a mooncup sounds fab, i'd get one if i didn't have a mirena coil, periods almost stopped now.

MrsWednesday · 28/07/2006 22:09

I've been convinced by Mumsnet, so have just been and ordered mine now.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 28/07/2006 22:50

Re ickiness: it's no more icky than using Lilets or a diaphragm.

Tampons are so much more unhygienic than a mooncup! They are not sterile, they are breding grounds for bacteria and they leave fibres inside you. With a Mooncup YOU are in charge.

For those who flush their tampons please look here (hope it works)
The marketing budgets of the manufacturers allow them to programme women from childhood (remember the Tampax Lady at school?) It was all news to me until I got into cloth nappies.

Bucketsofdinosaurs · 28/07/2006 22:53

Have you actually tried a Mooncup then Liesel? Well done you.

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/07/2006 22:57

I had a coughing fit once and my tampon fellout of me at work. Luckily I was wearing knickers.

Caligula · 28/07/2006 22:57

That must've been some coughing fit!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/07/2006 23:00

Yes it was! (Or else I have a fanjo like a bucket.) Does the mooncup make sloshing noises when you walk?
