Pruni, you are most welcome . No-one has ever accused me of being houseproud

(My mother has accused me of being lots of other things though )

SSSandy · 01/07/2006 19:55

Rooms that smell of cigarette smoke, full ashtrays and cigarette ash lying about on tables and work surfaces.

sandradee · 01/07/2006 19:59

Cat hairs all over the floor, carpet, bed linen, towels, pillows................Yuk yuk yuk yuk yuk.

JanH · 01/07/2006 20:02

What is wrong with soap on bathroom basin? Soap is anti-bacterial, isn't it? You only need soap and water to get rid of germs so how can germs live on a bar of soap?

expatinscotland · 01/07/2006 20:07

Soap and water is recognised as a disinfectant.

Seriously, whatever happened to be greatful for hospitality?

Who goes around noticing fluff in someone's bloody skirting boards or if there is mould in the window sashes.

Damn!

Marne · 01/07/2006 20:07

Cat food on kitchen work tops.
Dirty toilet.
Animals (dogs) on soffa's.
Cat/Dog hair sticking to your clothes.
The smell of cat wee.

I love animals but i hate the smell and mess they can make, it needs to be cleaned up and cats should pee outside.

Pets

SSSandy · 01/07/2006 20:11

displays of lovey-dovey memoralia.

TooTicky · 01/07/2006 20:15

Okay, expat, you can visit me. There's lots of stuff to not notice here!

Medulla · 01/07/2006 20:15

Scummy soap is horrible and I did my Infection Control final project on handwashing and soap bars appeared brefly in that. Warm, moist environment - perfect breeding ground for bacteria! That's why hospitals use liquid wall dispensers for soap. Just dirty bathrooms do it for me - urrgh!

marthamoo · 01/07/2006 20:17

So if you went to a house and they cooked you a meal and you spotted a pubic hair in the salad you wouldn't be happy?

Medulla · 01/07/2006 20:20

LOL no! Would you?

Tinker · 01/07/2006 20:20

at how picky so many people are!

marthamoo · 01/07/2006 20:21

Er...it was my house and my salad I wondered why no-one had touched it but didn't discover why 'til I cleared up later. I'm not a domestic slattern, honestly. I'm cringing just remembering it...

Tinker · 01/07/2006 20:22

In our student house there was a pubic hair stuck to the top of a bottle of lemon squash.

Medulla · 01/07/2006 20:23

Oh poor you! Hey we've all got stories like that I'm sure! Still laughing though - sorry!

JanH · 01/07/2006 20:29

moo, how did you know it was a pube? (Just wondering...)

foxinsocks · 01/07/2006 20:30

it could have been just a short, curly hair from say an arm or something (she says optimistically)?

WideWebWitch · 01/07/2006 20:31

Oh god Moo, I'm cringing on your behalf!

LadyTophamHatt · 01/07/2006 20:33

Pet hair on furniture.....and horror of horrors upstairs on beds!!

We have dog but she isn't allowed on the sofa and isn't allowed upstairs.

MrsGerrard · 01/07/2006 20:34

Seeing someone wash up in dirty dish water, dry up the cup and make you tea with it (vomit)

Ashtrays of any kind, especially over flowing.

threebob · 01/07/2006 20:37

I agree with the bath towel only, but the other way around, I don't want to dry my bits on someone elses hand germs. I always move ds's bath towel out of the bathroom when I have pupils coming around so they don't use it for their mitts.

Disgusting toilets are only permissible if there is a new baby in the house. But ds still sits on the seat, so they would have to be truly vile for me to notice. My PIL's toilet has one of the those little mats that is really wee stained, dribbles down the side and eau de urine as air freshener.

Everything else is fine because it's nice to be invited around

marthamoo · 01/07/2006 20:39

It was a pube. I know a pube when I see one. I don't know how it got there - I don't cook naked or anything. It was mortifyingly embarrassing.

DumbledoresGirl · 01/07/2006 20:52

It is threads like this that make me glad I never have people round to my house although the pubes in the salad is not something I would worry about. (Meaning I am probably guilty of everything else)

spidermama · 01/07/2006 21:28

Wow! The bath towel phobia really does seem to afflict so many people.

I hate plug in air 'fresheners' and other acrid cheap stinky crap which is supposed to get rid of the smell of people.
