Has anyone considered the fact that the clients of agencies may simply not like the faces of the kids that don't get work and that it's nothing to do with the agency not getting off their backsides to find assignments?

patzcrafty · 26/05/2005 23:37

Hi there

A very good point Andydad! I totally agree, although I can appreciate Mums frustrations with their agency but wot they do not seem to consider is that it is just as frustrating for the agency coz let's face it is the clients decision as to who they select...been watching this thread for a while as I have already stated before but I am happy with my agency and realistic when it comes to work for my kids...so wot if they do not get work for a while...wots the big deal....my kids arent the best lookin kids in the world but i love em just the same and if they get work its a bonus and if not it aint the end of the world as the agency can only do the best they can...we should appreciate wot they do as there is a lot of competition out there.

I wont drone on but well pointed out Andydad...funny nobody has replied yet...hmmm...wonder why?

Bye for now until the next installment.

I've put DS in for Scalliwags. Don't know if he is beautiful enough or not, but I certainly think he is! My friend used to work for them and told me to put him forward, waiting for a reply thouhg. Apparently I used to go to college with one of the family who runs it! Small world eh? Oh well I will see. Never thought I would ever consider doing this with my baby, but even my anti this type of thing mum thinks we should go for it. And of course she isn't in the slightest bit biased! I won't put him forward elsewhere if nothing comes of it. If it's meant to be then fine but there is nothing worse than a pushy mummy!

Hi there,

I have read through the whole of this thread!!! I am also getting ready to sign up my baby with bizzykids. Just had a question. Does anyone have a brown baby under one, who has had work from modeling agencies. By the sounds from most mums, it seems like only the blond hair and blue eyed babies get most of the work...

trace2 · 01/07/2005 11:06

my ds got light blond hair and big brown eyes, he gets work

trace2 · 01/07/2005 11:07

sorry light brown hair brown eyes

magic5 · 24/07/2005 14:38

A bit late on this as been off line for a month, but dd1 often 'works' with 2 mixed race twins,a girl & boy.Their mum told me that they started at 5 months & they are now 3.They get loads of work, they worked at NEXT & Cosatto with dd1 & also have been on TV & modelled for BHS too. They are just gorgeous & dd1 loves them.

Hi, Ive seen a company mentioned on this thread a few times now. Models Inc!!!!
I think you should read this:

Greed and shame of model boss Aug 10 2005

By IAN LEONARD & MARY MURTAGH, Liverpool Echo

A MODELLING agency boss is bankrolling a celebrity lifestyle with money from budding models.

Ex-Brookside actor Phil Foster, exposed by the ECHO two years ago after complaints about his agency, is back to his old tricks.

He shatters the dreams of would-be models by promising fame and fortune on the catwalk, taking their money and failing to find them work.

He spends the takings on luxury cars and Botox injections for his wife.

The ECHO has been contacted by customers left out of pocket by Foster, who promised them modelling work.

Shola Lawal, 17, from Dovecot, had modelling work on a national newspaper thanks to Foster, but she has never been paid for it and ended up losing her portfolio.

She said: "I never got any money, and when my mum telephoned him he told her to f* off. She went to his office to pick up my portfolio but was told he had moved to Spain.

"I believed he was a legitimate agent but I just felt used and cheated."

Foster's methods include:

. Encouraging people into joining his agency by offering "free" photoshoots and promising to put their details on websites. They hand over their money but their photographs never appear, or the website disappears after a few weeks, and Foster simply pockets the money.

. Arranging paid work for young models but never paying their cut of the fee.

. Other hopefuls are told to pay for photographs after being invited to attend a free shoot, although normal modelling agency practice is to take the money after finding models work.

. Using child models without applying for special licences.

Katie Froud, who runs Alba, an advice service and watchdog set up to monitor modelling agencies, has received dozens of complaints about Foster, who is also a wellknown face on the Liverpool beauty contest scene.

They say legitimate agencies never ask for money up-front and take only a percentage of models' fees after finding them work.

Foster often changes his business addresses and has operated under the names Models Inc, North West Model Management, Model Instincts and UK Model Management over the past three years.

Foster, who played jealous thug Christian Wright in Brookside, claims to have businesses in Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire, but many are empty, rented offices. He is now using the name Model Management, based in the Corn Exchange Building in Drury Lane, off Water Street, Liverpool.

He does not have an office there, although post can be left for him at reception.

The firm is advertised in the Yellow Pages, but when you call the landline or mobile number you receive an answerphone message that does not allow you to leave a message. We have given Mr Foster a list of questions about his business but are still waiting to receive his answers.

WOW, really killed this one didnt i? lol

tinkerbellchelle · 21/08/2005 17:35

My DS has been offered places with rascals and elisabeth smith. I've been told both agencies are very good and would like any ones experience of these agencies. We are meeting rascals first and seemed very impressed with what they have offered x

Izzabella · 30/08/2005 10:26

Hi there, was just wondering whether anyone has had any dealings with Childsplay, we are due to see them on Friday and was hopeing to find out how reputable they were before we went. Can anyone help?

shhhh · 07/09/2005 21:58

anyone any experience of agencies in the northwest/lancashire?? Sorry I gave up trying to read the whole thread!!!

loullabells · 15/09/2005 18:17

My six month old daughter has been accepted by Bizzykids, Little Acorns, Rascals and Inspired. They all want money up front, from £100 to £250+.

Does anyone have any recent experience of any of these agencies. I haven?t a clue which one to go for.

loulabelle222 · 15/09/2005 21:11

how comes you have my name?

aloha · 15/09/2005 21:22

Who are all these people? Do we have every employee of every child model agency posting here atm?

mill · 16/09/2005 00:10

well, what a load of rubbish!!!!!! I thought this looked useful, but it;s actually very funny and not really useful at all..... flyish fish face or whatever was soooooooooo funny...obsessed. Child Modelling will not mean you not having going back to work.how many thousands of mums are thinking this way?? the studios are hot and it's boring! it is great if it's fun and it's a bit different. we all think our kids are gorgeous, but , really, it's a tad "showy off"?! let's all be honest here. I have 3 real questions.. do children have to have a license to model? where do you obtain that? how do you obtain that? let's all help each other in the scrabble to earn a million and retire!!! it's supposed to be fun?! thanks in advance to any genuine replies x

MUM007 · 17/09/2005 11:39

Hi just to answer your query children do need a license to model. This has to be obtained from the local authority you live in. Normally your agency will ask you for the details when you join and apply to the local authority as and when they need to on your behalf. That is how my agency worked anyway. They would also need a letter from your doctor stating they are fit and well to work in modelling. Again your agency will request you do this and then you forward to them to put on file. Hope this helps. My daughter is with Bizzykidz agency I had the same worries in the beginning but they have been excellent.Took a couple of months to get started and my daughter has just done her third modelling job. Not bad considering we only joined in March. Debi who owns the agency is brilliant and will always speak to you with any worries. They charge a one off fee to appear on the web and that is it.A lot of agencies charge you each year. Bizzykidz have been good for my daughter and would definitely recommend.

mill · 17/09/2005 12:03

thanks, that';s great. unfortunately, i live in scotland..?

tinkerbellchelle · 17/09/2005 13:22

Just wondering if someone could let me know that when you join an agency do they start representing your child straight away?
We've just joined one for my son and just wondering if he will be put forward for things no or when he has his photos in november?
Many thanks x

MUM007 · 17/09/2005 15:16

It all depends what agency it is. Some represent them straight away if you have already sent snapshots in of him (that is all really what is required)I know others wait until the child has had the photos done to add to their model book. Best to speak to the agency and ask their procedure as they all vary.

tinkerbellchelle · 17/09/2005 16:31

Yeah, I can speak 2 them monday and see. Yeah they have some snapshots and they are just getting photos done in november as there model book goes online live then.
Thank you for your reply tho.

I know they said that our year contract doesn't start till it goes live but I would think if something comes in suitable for him they will probably put him forwards x

juicychops · 17/09/2005 16:56

i have tried to join a modelling agency for ds but they want £90. This is to cover the cost of putting photos on the website and keeping it updated until ds is 17 years old. Is this reasonable? i haven't paid anything yet as i cant afford it yet.

tinkerbellchelle · 17/09/2005 17:38

Lots of people were saying to me about not paying a fee if you have 2 pay a fee its a con. However after reading ALBA website I discovered that agencies can charge a reasonable fee to place child on there books. The fee is to cover admin costs.
I know there is an agency called models direct and they charge a fee and I was told to avoid them like the plague.
Hope That Help x
