what do you do when they get older?
i mean do you stop them till they are 18 secretly scoffing choc when they are in bed
do you give them vgradual exposure ot it like a drug meanign that the sweets become a sought after object of desire

or what

LOL at "18 secretly scoffing choc when they are in bed".

Personally I don't get why people do this "no sweets" thing. I think everything in moderation is ok but each to their own and all that. My friend told me that her parents where so very strict about not allowing sweets that she and her sister ended up stealing them from a shop.

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:46

becasue i think vvq that bannign is a silly way to do it
id do a little and often
mind you byt he time we got to ds3 there was no hope

mine have a sweet ( small snakc size) when they get in form school

Ours have chocolate but not sweets. We tell them Jelly Babies etc are made with ground up pig's/cow's feet. They're not too keen to try them.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/06/2006 22:46

We don't generally have crisps, either. They just don't seem like food to me, iyswim.

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:46

Well, I'm not trying for no-sugar, I'm just trying for good food. The biscuits and cakes I do generally have some nutritional value (egg, nuts, courgette, carrot, banana, peanut butter, raisins, oatmeal, pumpkin, whatever).

expatinscotland · 04/06/2006 22:47

dh bought crisps and thought he hid them on top of the cupboards - in the space between them and the ceiling.

dd1 walked in, pointed at them and said, 'i want crisps.'

wtf?! Shock

she also randomly comes out w/'I want a chippy' or 'I want McDonald's'

a true daughter of Scotland, that one :o

she's a rake, though. DH is a rake and she is the spittin' image of him.

hunkermunker · 04/06/2006 22:48

Is this thread because I said I couldn't potty train DS1 because he doesn't know what sweets are?

There's a good reason for this. It's nothing to do with being smug. I am simply faster than he is to the chocolates Grin

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:48

i am prerpetuall yamazed hoe many mners use chippys

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:48

If you don't allow your chld to have sweets when they are young they will seek revenge and own their own factory when they are older just like Charlie Bucket!!!!! Grin

NotQuiteCockney · 04/06/2006 22:49

HM, I rewarded DS1 for pooing in the potty with ... a trip to the laundromat. He loved washing machines at that age.

Socci · 04/06/2006 22:49

I think they were very young at the time cod - she said they were so desperate and couldn't see any other way. She's the most model citizen you could ever imagine now though.

NotQuiteCockney · 04/06/2006 22:49

We have a nice chippy down the end of the street. We go less than once a month, I think.

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:49

i always ask the mums who deny kdis chocolate if htey dont eat ti too
oh of course not

hunkermunker · 04/06/2006 22:50

I admit to a small amount of "eek" where food was concerned before DS1 was one - he didn't have sugar till his birthday cake. Then I relaxed a bit. However, yesterday I offered him a party ring and he said "nooooooooo" and waved his hands at me in horror (Reader, I ate it).

However, he'll bite your arm off for a Wotsit or Pringle... Grin

LadyCodofCOdford · 04/06/2006 22:50

no nice chippys dont exist
yuk yuk yuk
go once a decade

I've relaxed on (good, dark) chocolate. Still hate milkybar and its ilk.

brimfull · 04/06/2006 22:50

I remember brownie leader telling me that the 3 girls at camp that were scarily obsessed with sweets and cakes were all dd's of dentists, who had requested their dd's not have them .Brown owl just smiled sweetly and mumbled "yeh right"
