Good luck. Bach's Rescue Remedy is wonderful for your nerves, I would thoroughly recommend it. I was the most nervous driver in the world and I passed 2nd time (after guzzling BRR!!!)

2mum · 01/06/2006 10:54

Good luck Charlie cat i hope you prove dp wrong and pass. Smile

charliecat · 01/06/2006 10:57

oh good luck cc. Rescue remedy helped me, plus I was convinced I was going to fail, even promised myself that I was going to find a new local instructor with a mini to carry on learning in (had moved 40 miles or so away and had been travelling to last few lessons and test). I then made a minor cock up which I was certain had failed me, so I totally relaxed and jsut got on with it after that. It really helped!! Get as much practise as you can, even if it is jsut normal driving, to gain confidence.

Def ignore your DH. My DH is a driving instructor & says he knows when his pupils have been out with their partners/parents cos they're crap the next time, doing stuff all wrong.
Bet your DH wouldn't pass his driving test again if he went in for it cos some things have changed radically.
Listen to your instructor - he knows best Smile

Tortington · 05/06/2006 14:43

my dh did his on saturday and said it was a piece opf piss.

he failed the practical 3 times always passes the theory.

his advice is to click the mouse the INSTANT you see a POTENTIAL hazard in the distance - ie a cycle or a car turning

ofcourse they never had theory tests in my day when i passes first time around Grin

charliecat · 05/06/2006 15:04

He seems to use it as an excuse to screech at me and tell me how crap I am la de da da da....fingers in my ears im not listening.
Cant wait till ive passed.

CC, I had a lesson last weekend. The instructor said to me, "Could you read the licence plate on that car over there?" At that point I remembered 1- my last optician's appoinment was over two years ago. 2- the chemical coating on my glasses was not helping the old vision. Blush So now the test has been cancelled until my I get eyes tested (this week) and my new glasses have been ordered. CC How you doing? Your dh sounds like he doesn't want you to pass and experience the thrill of the road and those shopping outlet places out of town!!! Grin

charliecat · 08/06/2006 10:08

OMG puddingz....my instructor made sure I could see on the frist lesson...not just as I was gonna sit the test LOL.
More time to practice ..when are the glasses due? Have you rebooked?
We managed to have a 20 min drive home without him squealing at me this week....sigh of relief:)

Ooooh ! Best of luck to all of you ! Dose up on the Rescue Remedy and try to relax Wink

puddingz · 08/06/2006 23:09

Congrats on the 20 min ride CC! I've got my opticians appointment tomorrow. As soon as the glasses arrive I will rebook the test. If I try and book it before the glasses arrive, knowing my luck they'll come after the date. I intially booked it for earlier this year but changed it twice already because I didn't return to the lessons because my c-section scar was infected and the healing process took longer than expected. Keep up the good work Wink

The thing I found really helped me to prepare for the nerve-shredding element of the test was asking my instructor to give me as many 'mock tests' as he could in the run up to the big day. I think we did about 10 in the end, he showed me all the test routes he knew of so that I wouldn't be taken by surprise, freak out and cock it up ! It really did help me.

charliecat · 09/06/2006 10:51

Im jawclenching thinking about it. virtual screeeeeeeeeeemmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

OP posts:
Kelly1978 · 09/06/2006 10:56

my isntructor tried one of those mock tests, but as soon as he got it out I went to pieces. He put it away again after 5 mins. I still passed first time tho, so it doesn't always mean anything. Good luck everyone. Smile

Kelly1978 · 09/06/2006 10:57

Oh and was taken by surprise, went somewhere I had en ver been before as a passanger, let alone as a driver. Just Don't Stress!

SSSandy · 09/06/2006 11:11

Don't practice driving with dp - not even after you've passed your test. Honestly just don't do it!

Charliecat, is there a big empty parking lot near you where you could practice parking for a bit while dh goes off for a walk with the kids? Do some 3 point turns and practice reversing etc? Dh could drive you there and then go off for an hour.

charliecat · 09/06/2006 11:22

I think i need to nick dps car and get my mum to sit with me in a car park actually. Yep must sort that out.
