Your test vehicle
Make sure that the vehicle you are going to drive or the motorcycle you are going to ride is:
legally roadworthy and has a current MOT certificate, (if it's over a certain age); and
fully covered by insurance for its present use and for you to drive.
Your examiner will ask you to sign a declaration that your insurance is in order. The test will not be conducted if you are unable/unwilling to do so.
Note: A hire car is unlikely to be insured for the driving test. You should check with the hire company before you sign the declaration at the test centre.
Your vehicle should also display:
a valid tax disc (unless it is exempt); and
L plates (or, if you want, D plates, if taking your test in Wales) on the front and back.
You shouldn't display the plates on the windscreen or back window. Both you and the examiner should have a clear view of the road.
Your vehicle must also have
a 'fully functional' seat belt fitted to the front passenger seat
a head restraint fitted to the front passenger seat ('slip-on' head restraints are not allowed on the test); and
an extra rear-view mirror in the vehicle that is suitable for the examiner to use.
Specially adapted vehicles may be exempt from these requirements.
If you overlook any of these
your test will be cancelled; and
you may lose your fee.
