We have a Harold, that's an old mans name isn't it? But we shorten to Haay atm, would like to start using it though to differentiate from the many other namesakes bound to be in his nursery class.

Stirling apparently is an old mans name too. Oh well, ho hum.

(I like Ichabod. And Ezekiel. Good job I have a marginally sensible DH)

suedonim · 24/04/2006 15:19

We used to live next door to a grown-up Spike. he was most un-Spike-like, all thin and weedy.

The name that takes me aback round here is a baby called Roy. No one is called Roy nowadays! Grin

sharklet · 24/04/2006 15:20

I know an Odin - I mean who would.....

expatinscotland · 24/04/2006 15:20

Elmo would be great.

For a guinea pig.

1Baby1Bump · 24/04/2006 15:21

it just reminds me of that annoying tweeny...

Olihan · 24/04/2006 15:31

My dh taught a child called C.I.D. Seriously.

The school secretary rang his mum to find out what his initials stood for.

His mum said, 'they're not his initials, he's called sid'.

Grin Grin Grin Grin

cece · 24/04/2006 16:21

Olihan LOL!

I know a 10 year old Arnold

Pixel · 24/04/2006 20:06

My cousin wanted to call one of her boys Elvis. Due to the looks of horror on everyone's faces she settled on Presley as his middle name instead.

CHICagoMUM · 24/04/2006 20:08

Pixel I may know your cousin Shock as I know someone who did exactly that.

Ledodgyherring · 24/04/2006 20:09

I have a friend called Spike who has a cat called Dave Grin

Pixel · 24/04/2006 20:13

I'm afraid it's unlikely Chicagomum as my cousin was killed a long time ago. Her boys are all grown men by now (my cousin was quite a bit older than me and started her family young).

Pixel · 24/04/2006 20:17

My dd's friend is called Kimball and it really suits him.

bluebear · 24/04/2006 20:21

I know a 6 year old called Spike too!

MrsSpoon · 24/04/2006 20:24

I like Spike but more as a nickname than a proper name. I really like Levi and love Stirling, Peachyclair, it was on my shortlist for both DSs. Smile

Tamz77 · 24/04/2006 21:12

To whoever sniggered at Cheyanne: my half sister is called Cheyenne (pr.shy-ann) and she is utterly not chav. Her father (my father) is sixty, her mum is forty and both are ordinary, middle class people who wanted something pretty and unusual.

My son also has an unusual name which 90 per cent of the population also seem to sneer at, it's really annoying, especially as he has just learnt to say it but constantly gets funny looks and pitying smiles from folk when he tells them what it is. His name too is 'old', respectable, non-offensive and not chav (obviously the current hang-up). However it seems unless you have something in the top twenty of the annual Times list you are either a) dumb Vicki Pollard-type or b) trying to make like a celeb when you should really know your place and choose something sensible (read:dull).

kickassangel · 24/04/2006 21:13

ulysses

Olihan · 24/04/2006 21:16

DH has just reminded me of another classic name of a child he taught.

Brace yourselves for this.................

HASHley.

Honestly, I swear on my life, that was his name.

lovecloud · 24/04/2006 21:18

Kid at a playgroup the other day was called Gulliver????

Kids will call him "Gullable Gulliver"

Wembley · 24/04/2006 21:19

I know an Ozzy a Milo (mum never heard of the Tweenies when she named him) and a Rudy. I could go with Rudy not sure about the other two! I like Finlay

lovecloud · 24/04/2006 21:19

I hate it when people try so hard with names, it sounds crap and poncy!

They are trying to be cool but so far away from it.

kickassangel · 24/04/2006 21:20

Rupert

kickassangel · 24/04/2006 21:21

Fennela Bosomworthy

arfy · 24/04/2006 21:22

that is a great name

BonyM · 24/04/2006 21:22

I used to work with a very sweet, silver-haired, middle-aged woman called Elvis!

Woman telling her toddler son off in Mothercare a few weeks ago - Tiger Grin.

Knew of a baby called Scarlet Marmalade. Didn't ever actually see the baby but was in school with both parents and they were both redheads...

arfy · 24/04/2006 21:23

I've heard of a Scarlet Marmalade - must be the same one, surely?
