Well I've seen all the due in clubs.. My dd is starting school this September and is already looking forward to it. Anybody else?

Winter uniform is red or grey tights or grey knee length socks. But I don't like the grey knee socks; neither does DD. Luckily DD doesn't seem to suffer from gettuing too hot/cold, so I am hoping she'll be fine. It is also quite cold here at the moment anyway.

hockeymum · 31/08/2006 10:37

hulababy - do you want us to keep our eyes open for red tights in a 3-4 for you? I'm happy to get a few pairs and send them to you if you need them

julienetmum · 31/08/2006 11:27

In Woolie the red tights are labelled age 4-6. Dd has some (in grey) and they fit her fine.

What size clothes does your dd usually have. I'd be happy to post any if I see them again.

I also hate the grey knee length socks but have bought some for warm days.

hulababy · 31/08/2006 19:50

Thanks, but think we should be okay now. Age 3-4 years is too small, but age 5-6 come up to her neck. Will manage with the 4 pairs of 4-5, and 4 pairs of 5-6 though for now.

Hockeymum, no, we're in Surrey - our school is a fondation school, maybe that is why it has a nursery attached (though come to think of it, lots of my friends in London have kids at their local school's nursery.....)

lionheart · 02/09/2006 17:16

There's a scary article in the Independent magazine today on Alpha mummies in the playground and what they do to newcomers.

sliverx2 · 03/09/2006 00:10

Ds#1 6yrs old starts yr 2 on tue and ds#2 4yrs and 3 months today start reception class on the 18th and I just know I'm going to cry I did the ds#1 they grow up so fast it's not fair!

julienetmum · 03/09/2006 23:28

What is an Alpha mummy?

lionheart · 04/09/2006 12:10

A Queen bee in the playground, the one who's been there done that only much better than you and why even bother to try darling. The article suggetested it was to do with women who were previously very career minded and driven approaching parenthood and education in the same way.

lionheart · 04/09/2006 12:13

Did anyone else read this article?

julienetmum · 05/09/2006 11:36

One more day to go!

Thanks again to hockeymum. I picked up dd's blouses yesterday (ordered them instore and so used my vouchers and they are lovely. Pure cotton is so much nicer and I can't beleive the differentce in quality.

Just a shame about the horrible courtelle acrylic school jumper she has to wear (only available from official supplier)

hockeymum · 05/09/2006 12:20

dd started school this morning 9sob!) she was very excited and fine, just 6 of them starting this morning so not too crazy, she had a bit of a wobbly bottom lip but was very brave and sat down to do a puzzle. I kept a happy face on till i walked out of the gate and then had a good cry. Cant wait to pick her up at 3.15. Her best freiend is starting this afternoon so I know she'll be very happy to see her then.

How are the rest of you coping?

glad you got the shirts ok julienetmum! good luck tomorrow

noseymum · 05/09/2006 20:04

My lo starts reception tomorrow and all day I have been getting butterflies in my stomach when I think about it.

Hope I can keep it together tomorrow. Don't want to upset him!

hulababy · 05/09/2006 20:06

As some of you have seen on the other thread, DD also started today. She looked so grown up in her uniform, She was veery excited and had a lovely morning. She says she wants to go back again tomorrow - good job really, lol!

How was DD's day hockeymum?

hockeymum · 06/09/2006 09:34

hula - she loved it, she wasnt too chatty about it, she just wanted to get home and cuddle her baby brother, but she gradually said a bit more about it. Today was more sad for me because she had to line up on the playground and file in behind her teacher with her class (yesterday we got to take her in to the class room). She was fine and happily walked in holding her lunch box, but several of us mums were blubbing!

Apparently those who had packed lunches had them at a table in the classroom so they werent scared in the lunch hall which was nice and the headteacher came and sat next to them with his lunch box (he's the most fantastic head teacher) dd was so pleased because both her and Mr Rees had an apple. A lot of her packed lunch was untouched though, so I'm not too sure whether she has enough time to eat or whether she just isn't that hungry. Time will tell I guess.

How did minihula go into school today? was she happy?

Good luck everyone starting today

iota · 06/09/2006 09:40

ds2 started today - and I'm soooo happy - have started a coffee and doughnuts thread

Mhamai · 06/09/2006 15:59

My ds 5.6 started back today, it's a repeat year for him as he missed a lot of time last year due to health reasons on my part. I wasn't prepared to be as emotional as I was but when he looked up at me as I was leaving, it took all my strenght not to burst into tears. Anywho he's had a great first day, so another proud mammy/mhamai for the club!

nikkie · 06/09/2006 20:04

Dd2 starts tomorrow for ams, she is so excited!
we went to update her teacher yesterday after the summers appointments and she wanted to stay.

foxinsocks · 06/09/2006 20:06

aww glad everyone is getting on OK

ds starts on Monday (reception) but his big sis went back today. He is very excited and can't wait to line up like all the other children do! I hope he will be OK because he is more sensitive than his sis and more likely to burst into tears if things don't go his way!

hulababy · 06/09/2006 20:07

She had another great day hockeymum. She seems to be enjoying it. Gpt her first homework today too - two flashcards to learn, adnd to spot them in the first couple of pages of her reaidng book. She was very grown up about it and wanted to do it as soon as we got home, as "it is very important mummy"

Looks like the new starters are all doing well.

noseymum · 06/09/2006 20:27

My lo started today. Today, tomorrow and friday they have to come home for lunch. Just as well, he didn't go to the loo while he was there at all.

He seems to be enjoying it though. He brought a book home which he read with the teacher and I need to read with him too!

cazzybabs · 06/09/2006 20:33

DD1 started today - she seemed to have a good morning but didn't want to talk about it - I guess fed up by the time I got home from work of being asked - tell me about it. i just hope she made(makes) a friend. She does to my school (discount thing!!!) and I can lok at of my window and watch her in playtime! - Not that I have time to even think of that mind you!

julienetmum · 06/09/2006 23:00

Well I felt totally redundant this morning. Whilst waiting in the reception area (the teacher was coming down to take everyone through in small groups) dd got very impatient "when can I go to my classroom mummy?"

We finally got there (her old nursery manager was ferrying them there which was nice and the nursery nurses were in the nursery garden waving to the reception children as they walked down the path). Her teacher's 1st comment was wow you are full of beans arn't you (she was jumping up and down.

She then went to sit on the carpet and I had to pull her back in order to give her a kiss goodbye, then that was it.

When dh picked her up all she told him was she sat next to her friend and she has been outside 3 times, and had snack outside.

Tonight as I was tucking her up I found out she played with one of the new children (not from her nursery, was told not to roll around on the grass as she would stain her clothes, she got marker pen on her tie and I am very confused at what she had for lunch, she said it was vegetable sausage with salad????? Then she said the veg sausage was like a sandwhich, it wasn't a sausage just a name for a sandwhich with tuna on. The teacher asked what she wanted for lunch and she chose that.

Now I pre-chose the menus for the next 4 weeks but didn;t keep a copy, howver I know I chose neither veggy sausage or tuna sandwhiches as she usually doesn't like tuna. I shall have to investigate, am wondering whether her menu form has got mislaid.

nikkie · 09/09/2006 21:27

dd2 loved school (was only the next room really for her and same teacher in charge too)she played with old & new friends and couldn't understand why she couldn't stay for lunch!
My Mam went in with her (like all the other grown ups)but she did her own coat etc as the cloakroom was full and she could squeeze in!
She was very proud of being the only one to take a water bottle & her pe kit, the teacher came out at lunchtime and told all the other grown ups to bring them [smug mummy!]
I don't get to go until Tuesday though and will have missed all the starting stuff

Mascaraohara · 11/09/2006 10:16

3 sleeps until dd starts... finally got her to try on her uniform last night.. she looked like a right scruffy little tyke
