That sounds lovely monkey

DD doesn't know any of the girls in her class yet. We have met up with 3 of them for a couple of hours the other afternoon, so that is a great start - and must be nice for them so they at least recognise faces ont he first day. Then on Monday we are going to a party being thrown by the parents of omne of the girl's in the class. Their class teacher and TA are also going to the party.

My DS starts on 6th September. Have got all his uniform. I know he has got at least one of his friends from the nursery in his class. But he seems to make friends quite easily, so I'm sure from that point of view he will be fine! His teacher seems nice, so hopefully he will get on ok there.

lionheart · 28/08/2006 22:18

Aaargh, can somebody help? I just got my DS to try on the M&S trousers I bought and they don't fit (I tried age 4 and age 5)--too tight around the waist and too long. I can take them up but can't shoe-horn him into them every day. Any suggestions gratefully received. (The BHS pair I also tried is slightly better but still not a comfy fit).

hockeymum · 29/08/2006 08:45

lioneart, some places do adjustable waist ones. Adams (I think) and maybe Asda (will look later this morning as I've got to pop there) so they'll last longer. Go for a bigger size and take them up, noone will know any different.

lionheart · 29/08/2006 09:32

Thanks hockeymum, I'll try them today. And there was I thinking I had it all sorted. Ho hum.

hockeymum · 29/08/2006 12:55

lionheart - Asda do have adjustable waist trousers for £4. They're teflon coated too so are easy care and quite rough and tough! - they had plenty of stock in my local one too.

TitianRed · 29/08/2006 13:25

Lionheart - I had same prob with my DS! I have been back this morning and bought back-elasticated waist trousers. Tesco had a decent selection left.

lionheart · 29/08/2006 15:56

Thanks TR--I have braved the shops and found the answer is BHS. Have an excessive amount of trousers now and only half of them fit.

noseymum · 29/08/2006 21:07

LH, If you still have the receipts, can't you take some of them back for a refund?

dinny · 29/08/2006 21:16

can I join this? my dd was 4 in May and starts reception on Tuesday (argh!) she's been at the nursery attached to the school since December and so will know everyone bar about 5 newcomers (the morning and afternoon nursery groups all have school dinners together, so they all are used to eating at school and know each other quite well).

dd says she doesn't want to go into the big school though, wants to stay with me at home...

lionheart · 29/08/2006 21:16

I don't have the receipts and I think if I take them back they'll give me less than I paid for them because they have had a three for two since then. (Which is fair enough but annoying when you have paid full price ).

noseymum · 29/08/2006 21:22

But at least you would get something rather than nothing back!

dinny · 29/08/2006 21:22

M&S kids' stuff seems to come up very small, doesn't it? I got dd a pinafore from there and it was ridiculously small.

lionheart · 29/08/2006 21:36

Yes, their stuff does seem small. I might just see if any of the other reception mummies have smaller, or skinnier, or taller children and would like to have them.

(After the Clarks experience I had today I'm loathe to set foot in a shop for the next month or so, at least).

hockeymum · 30/08/2006 08:32

I was surprised how small M&S stuff was too. DD is tall for her age but skinny so tends to wear stuff a bit smaller than her age. Her M&S pinafore is tight in the middle which is a new experience for her. I just figured though, uniform will probably wear out with wearing it every day and washing so whereas so far she has grown out of all her clothes and they've been in good enough condition to hand down to someone else, the uniform probably wont be.

Dinny, are you in Wales? I thought the only place where they had nurseries attached to the schools was Wales and Scotland. I'm in Wales and I think the nursery system is fantastic as they know the school so well they dont get too nervous about going up to big school.

noseymum · 30/08/2006 10:37

hockeymum

I live in England and my ds has been going to the nursery attached to the school. I think this will benefit him when he goes to reception next week.

julienetmum · 30/08/2006 16:36

Just been away on holiday for almost 2 weeks , hula, I thought of you in Woolworths in Rhyl, they had loads of red tights.

Am very surprised about the tie. Dd?s is on elastic, you can chose between elastic or proper. She will still need help though with buttons on her shirt and pinafore.

Anyone know where you can get 100% cotton girls long sleeved blouses. Theonly ones I have seen are in Asda in the fashion styles, all the traditional type are poly cotton.

hockeymum · 30/08/2006 16:49

julienetmum. Marks and Spencer have them. 2 for £5.

shirts

hockeymum · 30/08/2006 16:51

Duh - wrong like it is actually these ones - costs a bit more for pure cotton though compared with the other ones and they'll be a b@@@er to iron but you asked for them and here they are

cotton shirts

LunarSea · 30/08/2006 21:00

lionheart - how small are they exactly? I usually have opposite problem with whippet shaped ds in that everything (even the elastic waist ones) is too big around the waist for him if it's long enough. Might have to try M&S to get some which actually fit him rather than sending him in a smaller size, to be worn as hipsters!

hulababy · 30/08/2006 21:02

juiletnetmum - I managed to get hold a pair of 2 pairs of red tights in M&S aged 4-5, and had to settle for anothe r ack of grey instead. Have got one pack of 2 in age 5-6 too as they were only size John Lewis did above 3-4 - and only red pack they had too!

lionheart · 30/08/2006 21:14

Lunarsea: age 4 waist 52 cm and age 5 53 cm (21 inches). Does that help?

julienetmum · 30/08/2006 21:56

Hockeymum, fantastic, thanks. I had looked in m & s and assumed they would have them but all I saw were poly cotton. Not sure if I'll be able to use my vouchers online but never mind.

cazzybabs · 30/08/2006 22:07

hulababy are you sending dd in tights because its got so warm - we have the choice of red tights or red socks (knee lengh) and the only ones I can find are sold through the school uniform shop and are enormous - dd1 looks really silly with her sock heals up her leg - still better than than being too hot I guess!
