DD2 is so ready to go back now, she isn't sleeping and whatever we do she is not tired !!!!
I 've got most of her uniform, just need another cardy and tights/socks
ANyone know anywhere to bulk buy tights and socks cheap?
they are both in the same size socks and dd2 goes through so many tights?

nikkie · 17/08/2006 22:24

She starts p/t on the 7th fulltime on the 21st

hockeymum · 18/08/2006 12:16

dd totally ready for school now and so bored at home. Excited about her 4th birthday on 31st. As the youngest in class she starts first, full time from 5th.

hockeymum · 22/08/2006 19:18

Anyone looking for a lunchbox/bag thing? Flora Omega3 spread has a free one at the moment. Spread is £1.49 and bag is free, it's quite nice actually with a space on the front for a photo so they know it is theirs. DD loves hers (but think she will prefer the fairy one I've got her for her birthday).

Is anyone else starting on 5th. I'll need someone on-line to commiserate with (or celebrate with the way dd has been today - she SO needs to go to school!)

TitianRed · 22/08/2006 19:25

DS starts half days on 5th, full time from 11th. I teach part time but have managed to swap days so I can take him to school on first day.

hulababy · 22/08/2006 19:27

DD starts PT on the 5th too. She does PT for the first week, then FT.

We are ready I think, although could still do with anothe rpack of red tights (managed to track down one pack, and got one set of grey too). Had to give up on summer uniform as John Lewis can't get the blazer till end of September. So she is starting in the winter uniform.

We have also finished the homework booklet now too - all packed in her satchel ready.

Jimjams2 · 22/08/2006 19:30

ds2 starts FT on the 5th. still have no idea how I'm getting him to and from school as transport haven't told me what time they'll be picking up ds1 yet. Grrr.

hulababy · 22/08/2006 22:29

DD is really going to struggle with this uniform. So corss with the suppliers that couldn't provide the summer blazer during the holidays. Now she needs to cope with shirt buttons and a tie, and tights. I'd been hoping to delay that till October half term.

Jimjams2 · 22/08/2006 22:32

I'm assuming they're not expecting a 4 year old to tie a tie! (ds2 has one as well- I've ignored it!)

Jimjams2 · 22/08/2006 22:33

ds1's uniform is much easier! (a different coloured t-shirt for each day of the week!) ds2 is all long sleeved shirts and ties!

hulababy · 22/08/2006 22:35

I am hoping not. I assume the teacher and teaching assistant will have to tie them for this year at least. I need topractise tieing it so it has that slip knot - and show her how to loosen it to go over her head, etc.

But the shirt buttons are so tiny and so fiddly!

At least her pinafore zips up the front.

hulababy · 22/08/2006 22:35

Is your DS's tie a proper one too. I had a tie at primary school, but it was on elastic!

Jimjams2 · 22/08/2006 22:41

yep proper tie one, I was gobsmacked. tried on his school shirts and he went ballistic "it's all uncomfy mummy" never really worn a collar before. Decided to spring the tie on him on the morning so he doesn;t have time to obsess over it. He'll be fighting with ds1 for his uniform!

Tommy · 22/08/2006 22:42

DS1 starts on 4th.
Reception children don't have to wear a tie and can wear their polo shirts all year (thank god!!)

hulababy · 22/08/2006 22:42

Yes, DD was same with the shirts. I have put them through a wash and they are a little softer (ish!) but she is going to complain!

my dd starts in 2 weeks am anxious but excited for her. just hope her class isnt too cliquey.

Calista · 22/08/2006 23:41

I think it's absolutely bizarre that 4 year olds are expected to be able to tie proper ties

My ds1 starts school this time but his tie is an elastic one.

Cat64, if my child's school expected my child to wear a proper tie then it's tough if the teacher/ta have to spend time helping children to tie them! You may have had extraordinary dexterity when you were 4 but it's well known that most children, especially boys, are still struggling with their co-ordination at that age.
Some of the children in reception will have been 3 up until a few days before starting reception (as my ds2 will be next year). It's just SO unrealistic to expect parents to be able to teach their children this sort of skill.

hockeymum · 23/08/2006 08:06

Did anyone see the programme about reception children on Channel 4 last night. It seemed like a really nice school in a good area and the teacher was absolutely fantastic with all of them but they still talked about wanting to have sex with each other (how do they learn that so young!) and it was just so sad to see some of them struggling to make friends. I really shouldn't have watched it, I was quite calm about her starting school before that! but now I can't believe she is that grown up and I'm in denial.

hulababy · 23/08/2006 08:12

Cat64 - there are only 14 girls in DD's class, with one FT teacher and one FT TA - so definitely not impossible. They also have a seperate ballet teacher who isa round to help after ballet. So not as bad as it first seems.

I'm soorry but I hae yet to meet any 4 year old capable of tieing a proper tie yet. I may be wrong but certainly they don't live near me. We have shown DD, as have we practised the buttons - but at 4y5m it is jst a bit much.

We have tried and tried to get the summer uniform, meaning no shirt and ti, but we can't. So yes - the teachers will have to help!

hulababy · 23/08/2006 08:13

hockeymum - deiberately didn't watch it!

hulababy · 23/08/2006 08:15

BTW, until last Easter I was a teacher. I know how hard it is to fit everythign in. But also relaise how much easier DD's teacher will have it with just 14 children (plus FT TA) than I did with 30+ children in the class, being changed over hourly, with no support in the classroom. Hence knowing that in our situation - my expectations are not that high re tieing a tie.

Jimjams2 · 23/08/2006 08:38

There is no way ds2 could tie a tie, he's going to struggle anyway with clothes/shoes etc, and that's with me practicing with him since January. There are only 10 in his class though (with teacher + TA's), and I figure if the school don't want to help 4 year olds tie ties they should change the uniform.

my ds started school 2 days ago and it's his 7th birthday today. he was so excited. he learnt to tie his shoelaces over the holidays and was really proud to achieve it bless. No school uniform here. He's loved it so far, and went to school armed with 2 cakes this am. There's 20 in his class and he knows all but 1 already so not at all stressful start for him. Oh and he only goes 5 mornigs and 2 afternoons a week
