I'm in this one too - ds1 starts in Sept. Will keep on working Grin - thank god he's only on half days for two weeks....
It will be a novelty only having one to deal with on my day off though - it will be sooo relaxing!

I hate uniform though, on those so young Sad

GarfieldsGirl · 26/05/2006 14:03

ds1 has been going in for 1 afternoon a week for th last few weeks, adn after 1/2 term starts doing 1/2 days on his own then whole days. He really likes it there, only a small class, really nice school, all teh staff are lovely. I've also found out that quite a few people put their LOs name down for that school when they are born too, so I'm pretty smug when I tell people what school he's going to.

glassofwine · 26/05/2006 14:37

Elliot, my DD1 's previous school didn't have uniform and it caused all sorts of problems. Even in Reception the girls compared clothes and noticed the scruffier childrenl. DD would get upset if she didn't have any clean skirts esp pink! So glad we're now in a school with uniform, it's a lot easier, cheaper and all designed to be washed and thrown in the dryer.

hulababy · 26/05/2006 17:08

DD will also have a uniform - a strict one too, including coat and hat. But it looks nice. DD not impressed it isn't pink - I have appeased her a little that at least her ballet uniform will be pink. LOL!

She really enjoyed her teacher visiting her. She talked to her about her nursery friends and what she likes to do there. The teacher then went into soft centre with them, to watch her play and interact I guess. And she looked through her folder of preschool work and her records with the nursery manager.

5th June is next big day - DD goes in for an afternoon visit.

hulababy · 05/06/2006 09:03

DD is off to her school this afternoon for a visit. She gets to watch a dance lesson and then can join in with some informal play before break time. We get to chat to her teacher about what happens in Preprep 1 and with the head teacher.

ds2 starts in September. He has a practice day next week. Think he's ready for it as well. You poor cow fio! Ds2 full time from the off (hoorah!)

Issymum · 05/06/2006 09:07

Sigh! I wish I was in this club. DD1 started school last September. She's had a great year, but I just can't believe that it's nearly at an end. It has gone sooooo fast. And somehow whilst she's a 'newbie' in Reception she still seems little, but once she's in Year 1, that seems like the beginning of the end. Sad

Jimjamskeepingoffvaxthreads · 05/06/2006 09:08

Actually fio- can I ask - how are you juggling school drop off and transport? I keep getting confused thinking about it. The bus didn't pick ds1 up until 8.45 this moring which would be too late to then drop ds2 to school.....

My DD also starts school in September. She will just be 4 on 1st August, so will be one of the youngest. THe youngest ones start around 6th september with the older one joining them on 14th September.

We are going to a new parents meeting on 20th June to meet her teacher and find out who will be in her class.

She is looking forward to it and I am sure she is ready for it. It is just me that isn't ready, she is strill my BABY.

psychomum5 · 05/06/2006 09:13

Hi there, can I join in please:)

My youngest is starting school this september, not that I am overly looking forward to it:(. He is still only three, and not four until the end of july. I am hoping that he will be fine, but still.....

not read much of the thread as yet, but is there anyone else here who feels the same and is even wondering about defering for a while??

They have a pre-school and after school club so he could go there. I prob will put him into the after school one then pick him up after ds1 is dropped back- just not sure whether to try and change ds1's picking up time- at the moment he's the last on the bus, not sure I want him being first and then driving round for an hour, but don't really think its fair on ds2 to be in school from 8am (dropped by dh) either.

Head is spinning!

GarfieldsGirl · 05/06/2006 20:16

ds1 should have had another afternoon at his new school today, but I didn't know about it until another mum asked if I was going. Went to pick him up from nursery, but he didn't want to leave, so I'm really annoyed with myself that he didn't go. He's going on Thurs tho for his 1st afternoon without me so not too bad that he missed it.

hulababy · 05/06/2006 21:16

DD had a great afternoon at school today. She went in to watch a ballet class and ended up joining in. When we returned to the classroom she was sat on the carpet reading books with a couple of the preprep girls. Then they went outside to do some gardening, and then some outdoor play before break time.

We went to talk to her teacher and find out about routines - only part time for first week luckily. They are 13 girls in DD's class with one teacher and a FT teaching assistant, which is fantastic obviously. We visited the school shop too - sells new and second hand. We ended up buying DD's school winter coat and hat, and her satchel there and then - all second hand and for a bargain price. They were excellent condition and too good to miss. DD loves them and keeps trying them on :)

Found out lots of useful information and feel pretty good about September at the moment.

leander · 07/06/2006 11:17

DS will start reception in september, he iwill be 5 in January. He is going to a different school than his nursery we have had his acceptance letter from LEA and have passed all neccessary docs to his new school but have heard nothing back, just wondering if everyone else has had their start date and induction days.

leander · 07/06/2006 11:18

sorryBlush just read thread and see most of you have already been to the new schools.

julienetmum · 07/06/2006 12:22

Dd's nursery class is going to visit reception in a couple of weeks for the morning.

I'm having second thouughts though. I love the school and everything about it but dd is getting upset at the other children not being friends with her. I have a very long post on behaviour/development about it.

Mascaraohara · 18/06/2006 20:51

Hi all,

I've had dd's dates through to visit sschool and we should be going 27th/28th I think. Fingers crossed.

Hula, your school sounds fab all the way!

I don't know anything about dd's uniform or anything yet Blush I have many questions so have high hopes for the school visits.

cazzybabs · 18/06/2006 20:55

DD1 is also starting school in September where I work! Am very very sad about her growing up and not being at nursery any more!

Still she has had 2 visits and loved them, is going to watch the pre-prep sports day where they are having a race for the new ones to do and then has a tea party to find out what class she will be in the week after next!

She too has her uniform and has been proudly wearing her hat and fleece (and boiling!).

foxinsocks · 18/06/2006 20:58

we find out the classes at school at the end of June (at a parents' evening introduction thing) and I think ds gets to visit reception in mid-July (but I think he does this on his own as he is in the nursery anyway so they take him round)

nikkie · 18/06/2006 21:03

AFAIK (nursery is attatched to the school) dd2 hasn't visited reception properly yet.Just got date for parents visit -4th July.
Seems a lot less organized than when dd1 started 2 years ago.

lionheart · 18/06/2006 21:51

Do any of the reception teachers at your DC's new schools do a home visit?
